the cost of petrol going up and 11 trips to wellington during the season means we will spend well over $1,000 dollars travelling from wanganui this season.we are more than happy to do this to support the phoenix in year 2.we are however interested in finding more people from wanganui that are keen to car pool with us.we have an 8 seater people carrier available for some of the games and are eager to fill it up with people to make everybodies travel cheaper, also if you have a similar vehicle are you able to take it to some of the games that we cannot use our one that would be great.feel free to contact me for any details.

Good idea ginger.

Here's the place to post it if you want to share travel, or a candle lit dinner, with News, Feverish, Eejit, the aptly named holeinone, or anyone else on these here forums.

I know that's what Eejit was suggesting.

I ignored him and solved the problem thus.

For anyone wanting to meet up I will be heading to the Backbencher each home game and then travelling to the Ring.  Walking.

If you want to share travel between the Bencher and the Ring them just drop a note on here.

Even locally it's getting expensive, making catching the train a serious option. Still if on a train, at least I could have a few more beers at the BB!!
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Will anyone here be travelling regularly from Palmerston North? My Commodore aint exactly economical with just one person in it.

I flew down to all the games I went to last year. With petrol prices the way they are, it's just as cheap to fly and stay overnight than it is to drive down.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

If need be, drive to Paraparaumu and grab a stadium return thing on the train. Heaps cheaper.

Looks like holeinone is coming from Wanganui; maybe he could pick you up on the way through?

The marketing dept from Phoenix could jump on here. If a train was organised from Palmy and promoted there, surely there'd be enough to jump on and come down - direct to the stadium door too. Having organised football in Palmy a few years back, I am sure there'd be a enough interest, maybe not for a season but for a game or two to see how it goes.
Remember it's not just Palmy but all stops in between

people from wanganui would not use the train from palmerston north but if the club were to put a bus on i am sure it would fill up for the right cost, could do a ticket to match and bus combo deal

The bus & match ticket combo was a popular idea in the UK. When I was there Charlton even put on a free bus for the last few crucial (and doomed) away games of their 07/08 Prem campaign.

I'd be very interested in the bus from Palmy, I live in Feilding myself but can get over to Palmy easily enough.

Me and a couple of mates are planning a few roadtrips down from rotorua this season. Realistically we will only be able to come for the saturday games - sunday/friday games we would have to fly.

I'm coming down to the opener and have to be back early monday morning so i have booked an 8:45pm flight back after the game... whats the easiest, cheapest and quickest way to get to the airport from the ROF?

Probably the big orange airport express bus thing, if you can catch it. I normally get a shuttle from the airport.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

You'd be cheaper driving to Auckland and getting a cheap Air NZ or Pacific Blue flight to Welly.

Cheapest flights I got last year were about $130 return, I think.
