Which Christchurch bars televise the nix'

Hey guys, just moved to the garden city and we're struggling to find bars which consistently televise the Phoenix's matches. Does anyone know whether Christchurch has any awesome sports bars like the 4 kings, or any old bar where we'd be able to watch tonights game live?

Hi furious d, there's a thread here with some talk in it: http://yellowfever.co.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8975&PN=3

Although things are looking not so good for them in terms of meeting up it appears the 'Bard on Avon' is a football bar and will probably be showing it. Anyway I don't actually live in Chch but since yr a new poster I thought I would point that thread out.

Cheers GenericFan, will give the Bard on Avon a go. Cheers also I-I-Iffy, it's great to be here - the Bog Irish Bar seems to have the games on sometimes, but I fear that they let rugby games take first priority. Missed most of the last Adelaide game because of the sevens

That's the impression I was getting, we tried something before the season started but nothing came of it. Never mind, we've got MySky HD and a 50" plasma

Might catch ya at a Sunday or weekday game?

Disappointing if places aren't showing Nix games but unfortunately we never seem to do that well on TV. Rebels vs Warratahs got 52,000 viewers last night while the Phoenix could only get 20,000. I guess being on sky sport 2 didn't help things?

Yeah probably would be part of the problem, given that alot of people may have sky uhf, with only sky sport 1. I would love to watch asb championship matches on tv, its a bit tough to follow at present

So, is there much chance Sky will have any of the ACL games on?

There was at least 32,000 in the Four Kings watching it so that takes the total level with the rugby ratings.

That's pretty awesome. Also explains why not many people showed up to watch the canes

You're right Vim, it doesn't exist anymore. I saw Andrew Mulligan (Crowd Goes Wild) last night tweeted that the Breakers get better viewing figures on SKY than the 'Nix.

Now they are run away league leaders and have all the leagues best players or all the time I wonder...

Interesting that they get such small crowds live if there is such huge TV interest.

They're pretty much filling the NSEC thesedays (around $5k I believe). These was some talk about taking any play-off games to Vector but it seems the cost is too much and contractual agreements at NSEC etc etc.

They sold the NSEC out a few weeks ago, and of course would do so for any play-off games.

I don't think it's 'huge TV interest', just apparantly more than the Nix. I guess Mulligan would know given he works for SKY, however he is a basketball fanatic.

Up from Ch-Ch to AKL for business this week and off to the NSEC on Wed evening actually, it's good entertainment. Nothing beats the Fever Zone but it's an enjoyable night out...

I guess having sky running adverts that say "your home crowd is what makes the difference... so watch the Breakers live on sky..." (WTF!?) might be helping prevent people being willing to rock up to the games too (despite capacity constraints etc.)

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Thunder sticks and hammond organ signature tunes to get the crowd going?

The Breakers seem to get pretty good tv ratings when you consider their profile. There last two games were both 38,000. As for their crowds their last one was only half full but they have sold about 2 or 3 games this season.

I think we have to accept that we will never be a good tv sport. We (rightly) call ourselves the Wellington Phoenix, that means we may not have the support of the whole country. Soccer is also not a very good TV sport, IMO. The best tv sports are the ones with little off the ball movement. This is why the NRL rates better than the AFL in Australia. Our tv ratings have never been good. The world cup qualifier we got about 200,000 (two and a half times less than your average All Blacks test), the playoff vs Perth we got 50,000 (less than the domestic one day final the same day) and we got about 100,000 for the other two. I haven't seen the viewing figures for the last few homes games but our away against Adelaide was 50,000 (i.e more than what the Breakers have been getting). So it is true that the Breakers beat us on the weekend but we normally do better than them.
