Notice this show on TVOne...decent show. It's a bit like a podcast. BUT does this now mean that they are not putting up the EPL highlights show that they used to have on the web??

Should get someone from the poddy to put together a local footy clip segment to go with this...petition TVNZ...

Assume it's an "online only" show?
Almost didn't bother with tonight's Premier League Highlights on TV One but turns out it's a new episode with highlights of New Years day games from last week. On now - repeated 11.50 pm on TV One Plus1.
Lets see if tonight's highlights show ends up on TvNZ On Demand during the week. Be a shame if it isn't on anymore a sit was handy if you missed an episode.

You know you're living in a culturally backwards South Pacific nation when...

Sommet Sports' football coverage is turning to crap - it was always pretty unreliable with games not being broadcast as scheduled or not broadcast at all. But now that they decided to broadcast Bangladesh v Sri Lanka test cricket every night this week, it's become pretty poor.

Next week sees them broadcast the soporific Second Test every night with minimal football at watchable hours e.g. Man City v Chelsea is only scheduled for 7.30 am Wednesday and 1 am Thursday. Only West Brom v Liverpool is on at a reasonable time (7.30 pm Monday).

The Championship games are rarely broadcast at reasonable times either.

At least they accepted my criticism this evening on their Facebook of not showing the Chelsea v West Ham game at the time they promised (they originally said it would be on tonight at 7 pm tonight but broadcast it this afternoon instead. They replied 19 minutes after I posted a complaint on their Facebook which is pretty efficient:

Sommet Sports Hi Peter, sorry the time was moved to this afternoon due to the early finish of the test. We will ensure that this does not happen again. We will reschedule for tomorrow evening if this helps?

Get on to them on their Facebook page and tell them what you think. They do respond anyway:

Well worth watching or recording - is live from the UK with all the results and analysis as they come in -  Sky Sport 2

In the UK it runs on Sky Sports News Channel every Saturday  12 pm - 6 pm. Has been going for more than twenty years (16 years under the current name).

Here they are just broadcasting the 3 pm to 5.30 pm segment (4 am - 6.30 am in NZ) which has progress from the 3 pm kick-off games (4 am - 5.50 am in NZ) and at about 6 am the Saturday football results from all the British leagues.

Best to record it if you watch some of the games.

Sky Sport are also broadcasting the Sky Sports News bulletins sometimes from the UK now. I used to really enjoy those when Sky News UK was broadcast 24 bours in NZ in the late 1990's / early 2000's  - unfortunately Sky then switched to Sky News Australia which is crap.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soccer_Saturday

Format

Soccer Saturday is broadcast from 12 pm on Sky Sports News and lasts for up to six hours. The programme begins with the host and four regular in-studio pundits previewing the weekend's matches, reviewing recent results and debating current issues in football. The show is also famous for the rapport between the pundits and the presenter. There is much banter between the pundits and Jeff Stelling, who, in a good humoured manner, often points out each other's mistakes and incorrect predictions. Stelling exuberantly celebrates goals scored by his favourite teamHartlepool United F.C. Viewers are kept updated on the progress of early kick-offs by reporters at the games and by graphics below and to the right of the director's cut. These graphics also includes latest team news and league standings.

From 3 pm–5.15pm, Soccer Saturday provides running coverage of the 3 pm league matches, none of which are televised in the UK (and only one of which is televised in Ireland). The graphics display a vidiprinter and cycle through current scores in the English and Scottish leagues, with Jeff Stelling providing commentary on the events as they unfold. Significant events at the most high profile games – almost always in the Premier League – are described by the studio panel who each watch a game on a monitor. Other games deemed important are reported on by correspondents at the grounds connected to the studio by a video link, ISDN or telephone.

After the 3 pm games finish, the classified football results are read by Alan Lambourn and this is followed by a run-through of the updated league tables. A commercial break then follows and this is when the vidiprinter is removed from the screen. For the final 45 minutes of the programme the studio pundits discuss the games they have been watching, and post-match interviews with players and managers are shown conducted by that evening's Football First commentators.

The regular format occasionally changes, for example during international windows when the Premier League does not play, the show is often shortened to 2 pm-5:30 pm.

They'll have to fix their changing around of times for games once they get on sky. I know its a free channel, and we wouldn't have those games otherwise but it's still really annoying and pretty amateur stuff. I do genuinely think they do it to try to please as many people as possible, but it can be frustrating.

To be honest, Last weekends A League games were more exciting, entertaining than the pathetic piece of piss I watched yesterday involving my beloved QPR at Derby Cunty. That was amateurish at best.

Watched a bit of this over the weekend - the commentators are hilarious... which is obviously their strategy as they can't show any game footage. If you're a follower of the game definitely worth a watch (even as background noise while having a BBQ brekky lol).

I watched this while I was in England recently. Phil Thompson gets really animated when describing the match action.

Probably not on because of the Winter Olympics encroaching on all channels plus Super Rugby next weekend at the same time.
Yeah, worth watching once or twice just to see the commentators get worked up. They certainly race around cutting quickly between commentators at different games and talk at a million miles an hour. Did remind of a comedy show like the Fast Show.

"Luke Shaw, the Southampton left-back is the only uncapped player in an enlarged 30-man squad - the last before Roy Hodgson names his provisional World Cup party in mid-May.

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling is rewarded with a recall after a run of good performances at club level, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ben Foster are back after injury - but there is no space for Sunderland's Adam Johnson, West Ham striker Andy Carroll or Gareth Barry of Everton...."

Jermain Defoe becomes the first player playing for a Canadian club to be named in an England squad. (Ryan has another major international in Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar at Toronto too).

TV ONE

Four hours of football every Sunday afternoon now 11.30 am - 3.30 pm on TV One - EPL game followed by two World Cup docos.

Last week's doco episodes on TV One On Demand:

http://tvnz.co.nz/road-to-the-2014-fifa-world-cup/s2014-ep1-2-video-5940375

1.30 pm "Road to the World Cup" - one hour profile series of all 32 teams. This episode has Brazil, Japan etc.

http://tvnz.co.nz/road-to-rio/s1-ep1-video-5931965

2.30 pm "Road to Rio" - one hour show of road trip around South America of UK-based Mark Watson and Henning Wein (the only popular German comedian in Britain who was on "QI" recently) checking out the footbaqll and culture.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

ESPN

Heaps of football docos (on top of the World Cup preview series):

(1) Ongoing replays of classic World Cup matches every Monday 11pm (replays at various times)

(2) A new documentary series of 30 (!!!) football documentaries "30 for 30 Soccer Films" every Tuesday about 11pm

Part of marking 30 years of ESPN and all new films - some of the best documentaries about football ever made in English.

Started two weeks ago with a brilliant two hour doco commemorating the Hillsborough tragedy co-produced by ESPN and the BBC with much good new insight and the latest inquiry findings. Last week two films: on Maradona 1986 and the Chilean national team 1973-74 and the military coup. Great stuff

(3) "Destination Football" 9.30 pm, 10pm Tuesdays about legendary players is also great.

But these are not on  the next two weeks because of live tennis. Will resume from the 19th onwards.
