I think you're right about Carvalho and Cole, Downey. A 2yr extension for Riccy would be ideal. Word coming out of the club today is that talks with Joey have broken down again. I can't see him being around next season.

On the injury front, Ivanovic will be out for up to a month, so it looks like Ferreira will play right-back tomorrow night and Zhirkov on the left. Cech is due back between the sticks. It's all or nothing tomorrow if we want to realistically challenge for the title.

yea ivanovic is a blow, cant afford any more injuries, especially in the back 4. we really have missed essien and cole

but your right, all or nothing against portsmouth, ive said it before but we simply must get all 3 points from this one.

another annoying thing about cole being injured and having zhirkov filling in at LB is we havnt really got the chance to see zhirkov in full swing down the left at his attacking best. but with malouda playing well it hasnt mattered all that much. just need joey to sign a contract, get back to his best down the right so we can have our 2 wingers in full flight

well people said the prem was ours to lose halfway thru the season so im not to sure about anything. we need to improve drastically from the display vs blackburn if we are to contend for the title. if we play our best then who knows. its a tight race and i could see either of the 3 teams winning it, my money would be on man utd right now but in a weeks time things could be very differnet so we will just have to wait and see

So you guys play United two days after they get back from Germany. That is a big advantage to you lot, as that game will have a massive say in the title race.

I still think you will win title. Hope you do to.... don't wana see united win it again lol.

Esp. it you can get cole firing, and get Essien, Ivanovic & A.Cole back ASAP!

Your fixtures aren't too bad either

Word today is that Ashley Cole will be back in training in the next two weeks. Bodes well for us for the run in, assuming we're still in it by then. We have missed Essien badly but I think we will have enough to cope with the loss of Ivanovic just for a month. Big Pete should be starting tonight.

As for our fixtures, we've actually got the worst run-in of all the top 3. We have to go to Old Trafford, Anfield and White Hart Lane. We've also still got Villa and Man City to come at the Bridge (which, this season, hasn't been the fortress it once was). Arsenal, by comparison, have played all their games against us and United. A win tonight would be a nice confidence booster to start with though...

When I lived in NZ, getting up in the wee hours to go to a pub that may/may not be showing the Chels games was painful. My first weekend back in England involved going to the Bridge - Saturday afternoon's were painful in NZ. I'd been brought up on football on a Saturday arvo with my Dad, since I could walk. As you say, you can't beat it.PaulSG2010-03-25 00:09:27

Yeh I 100% agree... came from the same background, and now me & my dad here are lost. No pubs in Hamilton even open early to show games..unless its a Final or summit. Absolute nightmare.

Where were u living in NZ, when you were hear? Anywhere near Hamilton? Reccomend any pubs?

I was actually living in Auckland (unfortunately) but there were a few pubs around the CBD that showed Chels games live. The one I used to go to was the pub below the Albion Hotel (I think it's actually called the Albion?) which is right on the corner of Hobson and Wellesley Street. But it depends on which barman is on as to whether they show it. Otherwise it's a case of hitting Vulcan Lane off Queen Street.

Spent very little time in Hamilton (unfortunately, again) so I couldn't really recommend anywhere around there.

Fantastic result and good travelling support again too. I thought we actually started quite slowly, and feared the worst, but once James cocked up and Drogba got the first, it was all over. Thought Malouda played a blinder and it was good to have Big Pete back between the pipes (although that's no criticism of Turnbull's spell).

The downside has to be the injury to Carvalho, who has only just got fit again. No reliable word on when he'll be back yet, but hopefully not too long. It's no bad thing to have Alex to come on and replace him though. Both different types of centre-half but both very reliable.

The huge plus, apart from three points, is that the goal difference is now +47 which is the same as Man Utd. When the table is so tight, the goal difference is almost worth an extra point, so hopefully it will stand us in good stead for May.

Riccy will be out for four weeks. A big blow but Alex very rarely lets us down when called upon. A pity we won't have Carvalho for the trip to Old Trafford though.

dissapointing bout riccy but yea, alex should do fine.

tough game this weekend but villa do seem a little off at the mo with a draw to sunderland last up and before that a draw with wolves so hopefully we can pounce and grab the 3 points. cant afford to slip up at all right now.

We always struggle a bit with Villa too. We stuffed them out of sight in the Carling Cup a couple of seasons ago (4-0 at the Bridge) but we've struggled with them in the league, home and away. Even when Jose was in charge we used to scrape by at home and nick a point away. Could be tight but I think we have enough about us.

Wonder if Villa will offer to refund the tickets to their fans (or do you have to reach 9 goals for that to happen)?

Superb result and it gave me bragging rights in the pub all night, which is never a bad thing. :)

I actually thought Villa were marginally better than us in the first half and I was a little worried when they equalised. But we played some superb stuff in the second half. The build-up for the second penalty was a great example of one-touch, pass and move footy. I thought Zhirkov was outstanding (an unsung hero) but Lamps was simply different gear. For six consecutive seasons he's scored 20 goals from midfield. World Class is a phrase that gets bandied about all too often in football these days, but Lamps is a prime example of truly World Class.

What a game to watch! Agree at Zhirkov being a quiet hero of the day, but Lampard...I'm totally lost for words at what he showed against Villa. Can't wait for the game with Man Utd, proper piece of football in front of us. Yeah!
