If you're an existing customer of Telecom and are free to leave them for another ISP (ie, not locked into a fixed-term contract as I currently am), I'd have thought you'd be able to call them and negotiate being treated as a new customer.
Coliseum Sports - EPL Overlords
That's a well written article and much what I have being saying.
There is a reason why a journalist from stuff does not run a multimillion dollar business.
Got an email from them today,
"Hello, and thanks for your pre-registration!
All your support and emails have meant a lot to us through the last month, so we wanted to get in touch to say thanks, let you know that everything's going great with the development, and that you'll be hearing from us again in a couple of weeks when there'll be pre-season content up for you to test the platform with.
In the meantime, we're looking at enhancing the calendar function of the platform so that when it knows your club it will keep track of the games you're likely to want to see. Of course, for this to work we'll need to know what that club is, so we've made a short form for you to fill in, and we're sweetening the deal by giving away a free Platinum membership which will give full access to every match of the Premier League as well as all the preview and review shows to one survey filler-inner.
Thanks again, click the button below to let us know your club and we'll be in touch again when we're up and running.
Cheers,
PremierLeaguePass"
Did anybody else not get this email?

Wonder why they ask what team you support? Better to go with the crap teams no one supports like Spurs, Arsenal or Chelsea - I reckon they'll grab one from each team to make it look like a decent cross section of supporters.

You're genetalia on the win?
Hmm. I look forward to the new HAL season and seeing your nads go up against Grandadi's octopussy.

I personally think this will be a spectacular fail for various reasons.
1: Ease. Most people have sky now. Yes its a change and people don't like it but you have now made it complicated as people have to sit in front of a PC screen when previously, they just changed the channel while curled up on the couch.
2: If my Dad was knocking around, would he know how to stream on the internet? Basically you have wiped out a demographic above the age of about 55. I know what I am doing but that's cause I have moved with the times. I put myself in the minority.
3: Do I want to watch this on a 4' or 10' screen as opposed to my 44'? Yeah I can jack it up to my TV but can I actually be bothered when my sky box does it already?
4: MySky. Can you watch the game in 2x stream on the internet and fast forward through the HT break? End of.
5: This works on the assumptions that the quality of feed is good and that there is no data cap on it.
6: For the younger folk of today that are tech savvy and have all these fancy idevices, do most of them have $150, $250 that they are just going to part with when they will find other ways to find it anyway? Justin.tv?
7: My son got up and watched Spain 82 when he was a little tacker at the wee hours of the morning. Explain to me how you are all going to crowd around the small screen as a family (and if you stream it across multiple devices then its double the bandwidth usage).
8: If you don't have a PC or don't have internet, what do you do then? You might be surprised at the amount of people (and again I am looking at the 55+ demo) that do not have the internet.
9: So TVNZ have 1 game. Do I really want to watch Stoke vs Reading (or whoever?)
This country is not advanced enough yet nor does it have the population model to be able to support it. Take 50k subscribers at $150. I am sure the rights cost more than $750k a year and that does not include the backend costs.... (EDIT: My maths is actually quite shocking so please disregard this point. $7.5m)
Call me a pessimist but I just do not see it working in any sense.
Oh how this makes me LOL:

Sky has hired Sydney-based consultants at Interbrand - which created branding for its Igloo joint venture with TVNZ - to remould its overall image.
""We want to bridge the gap to be ... a company that has got personality, heart and some attitude and not just a service provider."
Lets close the gate the animals have gone.
"We want people to love Sky"
hahahahahaha I'm sure you do Fellet, I'm sure you do. Put down the drumstick and sort your sh*t out then.
the quality & (so far) relaibility of the channel7 live stream of Livrpl v Tards down our copper to ipad is giving me a bit of hope for viewing via Coliseum
this could be useful

Also most of those are to do with a small screen. All it requires is one cable plugging your laptop into your PC. It is easier than setting up a sky box. And yes you can watch it on 2X to fast forward ads (at least any of the other services I've used you've been able to)
I guess we'll wait and see about the quality of the feed, but again based on other services I've used, its good.
That basically leaves the very old population who may not be able to adapt (such as toplefts grandfather - which is sad). But this happens with any technological change surely.
The final issue is the extra cost. Which is completely fair enough. It sucks having to pay more now. But id see it as more of a transition period, a lot of sports will be broadcast this way in future - even sky and sommet are showing their sport this way. Eventually with smart TVs etc, this will be less of an issue. Also as I've said previously, you can blame sky's way of bundling sport on a single package as to why it is expensive. If you could watch any sport you wanted on demand (and we're heading that way), it'll get a lot cheaper. So in terms of cost, I completely agree there is a short term pain, but it'll be for a long term gain I reckon, so I'm keen to support it.
Agree with you, Tegal. Hopeful for future of tv sports in NZ. The Sky bundling system simply creates a massive choke point and essentially a handful of quality/popular channels subsidise the crap/unpopular channels. Which is what private ownership of broadcasting rights was supposed to change!

Part of TVNZ's deal is to give equal coverage to all the teams.
Not impressed with the quality...............
This is better than I thought it would be:

Do I have to watch all the matches live or can I record them and watch at my leisure?
We've confirmed with the league that every single match can be watched once at any time - live or on-demand.
...So you can watch every single game. This is now an obvious improvement on sky. May have to coordinate with any other household users of your account for some games though!!
The quality of the preview material is awesome for me as well, so I'm happy :)
Try it here: http://www.premierleaguepass.com/plp/aboutpass.jsp at the bottom of the page.
So even if it were for free, you wouldn't watch it? Fail to understand this.
