Here's how I imagine this went:

CSM: "do you guys want a drink?"

Wilso: "ahhh, a beer please"

Patrick: "water please.....tap......easy on the ice"

Smithy: "pomegranate martini, with a smidge of basil on top"

*10 minutes later*

CSM: "so despite the fact that this is going to cost everyone more money, will be more of a hassle and there has seemingly been no progress in the last month with the season kicking off in just over a week, we bought you a drink so you have to say we are amazing"

Smithy, Patrick, Wilso: "Yaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy"

The martini was very nice though.

Some news I heard last night is that Miles Davis and Martin Devlin are going to be doing pre- and post- match analysis for CSM's coverage.

I dont really have an issue with CSM, other than the quality of the feed, I have been used to watching SKY Sports in HD, and from what Ive seen when i plugged my laptop in and screened their preview vid, it's nothing like that. Dont get me wrong the picture is good, but it isn't what I have become used to watching.

I have just finished listening to the NZ Tech Podcast and they said they are getting Tim Martin (CEO CSM) on next week, and those guys are onviously fairly 'techy', so he'll probably get more searching questions than what Telfer and Sam Malcolmson served up the other day...!

Interestingly they had the guy on from QuickFlix and they in the process of developing a connection with Freeview, that will screen on Channel 200, and will act like a 'normal' TV Channel but you'll need a QuickFlix subscription to access it; this may well be the route PLP head down at some point...

Yeah, it's like watching sky without HD in quality I reckon.

Reckon they'll offer an HD ticket or something in time. Possibly just a bit nervous about introducing it straight away.

Point of fact though. If Brendan Telfer is on your side (Frankie, take heed) you're probably on the wrong side, because Telfer is an epic moron.

Knew it wasn't you - some "cricket" guy... was bluddy funny tho. The bloke was almost sickeningly positive, he almost had Deaker B on the back foot. But not quite.

In an epic piece of reverse marketing... watching the Arsenal TV coverage on Sky is increasing the likelihood of me getting Coliseum sooner. I'm allergic to watching *delayed games. Bugger it.

(notwithstanding the 2011 5-3 match v Chelski that Sky/ATV showed the other night - wow!).

Living in this world of free unfetted capitalistism Sky is doing what big monopolys do all the time. They use their power to crush any opposition. Coliseum come on board as competitors. Sky respond by doing enough to muddy the waters and make the life of the startup even more difficult. Once the competition is killed off Sky will resume their normally distainful treatment of their clients.

Bit slack of the EPL clubs  how do they get off selling broadcast rights to Coliseum and then flog off delayed rights to Sky?......needs some lawyer to check that out.  Does that mean in the past Sky had live rights but someone could have come in and got delayed rights?

Still doesn't alter the fact that Sky are still c**ts and one day when NZ moves out of third world status and we get whats available via the net like civilised countries have, then we can all happily dance on Skys grave.

Someone over on the geekzone forums emailed plp got this response re: on demand stuff

-------------------------------------------------
Thank you for contacting PLP Support.

All games will be archived for on demand or replay viewing but some matches will only be avaible until the start of the next round. There will be 250 matches that are available on demand or in replay for the duration of your subscription. The other 130 matches will only be available on demand or on replay until the start of the next round or about a week's time.

We can not confirm which games fall into each category at this time as that will be subject to change do to broadcasting rights.

The highest bitrate offered will be 3000Kbps.
We will be happy to pass along a request to offer a 4500Kbps bitrate stream in the future

Sounds consistent with what Julio told me then. That's promising.

They really should make their FAQs clearer on this point as it definitely gives the impression you can only watch those 130 games once.

I have Apple TV and are fully aware of how to plug it in and use it.  Despite being told on numerous occassions where the information to connect a computer to a TV, I don't need it.  Thanks all the same.

I don't think that I have ever said anything stronger than moving to CSM is an inconvenience, and frankly have no opinion on it either being a good thing or a bad thing.  I am probably the very definition of indifferent in this situation. I am sure someone will be able to prove otherwise in about 30 seconds, so good luck to you.

All I have said is that a number of non tech savvy people have asked me (a non IT person) questions about how simple/complicated this is for them, which leads me to believe that the information they require is not available in places these people would normally look.  I am not the voice of these morons, just expressing an opinion that I would have thought that they would have used other means to communicate this information (adverts, fliers, etc).

So where would one 'normally look' if they wanted to know how to connect their tv to their computer?
In a best-case scenario PLP will get 13k subscribers to break even. Why would they even comprehend paying to deliver a flyer round the country for that? And if they did, would they fill it with info on how to connect the tv to the computer and other technical matters? Nope, that would still be on the website.

I've no idea why someone would ask you for help with this, but next time they do, just respond:

"Go to premierleaguepass.com"

And they'll get everything they need.

This is exactly the situation that Tim Martin was hoping for, based on his speech at the launch on Wednesday. He thanked Sky for providing all the delayed coverage to consumers, and reminding them that there is only one place to watch live Premier League.

Well, several years ago it was suggested on this very site that there was plenty of football around the world to give Sky the chance to have a dedicated football channel - Like they have with Rugby.

Now that Sommet Sports has taken to showing Championship games "free to air" - awesome fellas, getting to watch some real football for free and with Coliswhatever charging $150 for a hopeful 13k fans, it has shown too that there is a market.

I think Sky underestimated football fans to the point of treating them with contempt. Now they are paying the price. I think in two years they really will offer a bid to knock everyone else out just to prove a point but their reputation has indeed taken a hit.

I won't be subscribing to watch the EPL. I will be watching Sommet Sports and I will watch the A League on Sky - should they kill that off too, then I will be saving $77 per month when I cancel them.

Shame the bit rates are not higher and I guess only those with 100 gig+ plans on ultra Broadband will get the true benefit.

Still interesting times ahead.

Probably join QPR World for around 50 pounds and watch the games on the lappy - Shift work is a killer for me though and can stop me watching every game. Sky in that respect was good but I feel they could have done it better.

The quality of Premier League Pass is garbage. They offer a preview video which isn't even live and the quality is sub par and blurry and pixelated and I have a 15 mbps  DL rate.

Will stick to Vipbox if this is the quality they are offering. Just lucky I am a gooner so I can watch Arsenal games on the next day like I do anyway.

Laggy, not in HD, why would I pay for that. The quality is garbage on my TV. switching between the premier league streaming site to ESPN in HD on the other channel, it was night and day. Will just wait to midday on sunday to watch Arsenal games. Can't stand sub par quality. Also the CSM guy telling people they just have to plug in there PC to stream are completely avoiding the issue that most old people have laptops from 2005 that wouldn't have a chance in hell at streaming at a constant framerate. I can see alot of backlash after the first night of football, people will be angry once they see how it works. Because in my experience a online service launch always go horrible in the worst ways. Also there is a thing called pirate bay, that upload 720p\1080p matches about 30 minutes after they finish. I think that is looking very appealing.

Hmmmm a Xbox app could of made me make the jump to this service, would of been cool watching games with friends in a party.
Anyway enough ranting, not interested in this package. My prediction is people will not resubscribe and Sky will buy back the rights and create a football channel. Really pissed off that EPL has been taken away from Sky, still got Champions League, A League and FA Cup on Sky so there is no way I was ever going to cancel that subscription.

Reckon it probably is if you're like me and tend to watch the games the next day or over the next week. Unsure about the quality of streams you manage to find, but I imagine the quality will be better too.

Then there's always the warm fuzzy feeling you get knowing you're paying for the content :p

I've mentioned before but just be aware for about a 1/3 of the games of the team you support you'll have to watch live in the early hours as only 26 (of 38) games will be available to view outside of the actual time the game is played (ie 'On demand')

This is my major sticking point, i can handle using Apple TV, or plugging in laptop etc and i like the fact 'magazine style' shows will accessible on my iPad, but for supporters of the top 8 clubs (at least) whose games were available EVERY week on demand (via recording on MySky), this will be very different.

I  dont want to wake up at 3am on a Sunday/Monday morning to watch my team... I loved the fact my 2 boys and I could watch our team play every Sunday or Monday morning on MySky...

I wish they'd partner with a Freeview channel and screen games that way as well, so i could record them...

Sky has your back, Tottenham games will be on Sky in HD 12 hours after their initial kickoff time so more like Sunday afternoon. This is the same for Arsenal, Man City and another unnamed team

Looks much better - but unsure why we dont actually get game footage to see. This one is just pre-match...

They seem to be doing little to actually engage the fan and potential subscriber.

They do note the site goes 'live' from Aug 1, so maybe then we'll see some more action in all departments from them.

The talk over at geekzone is because the fast paced parts are quite blurry but I can't confirm.

Not really sold on this, to be honest. It's especially shite because the top 5 teams are going to be on Sky, anyway. But because we're so shite, I'm left with not much choice! Think I'll go to LFC TV though. Would rather watch Liverpool reserves than any other sides in the Premier League anyway.

It sucks though, because Sky are cunts. Would love to have cancelled them.
