Fair enough smithy.

Superfrank, a huge majority have found the quality good, unfortunately a minority did experience lag though. Fair enough if you want to wait and see as a result (or until you have new tech), but I reckon its worth a go. Hopefully they do another day pass next week so you can try before you buy. They may even still have some of those 10,000 left from yesterday?

Had no issues with streaming here.  When the Everton didn't load I used the live chat service who gave me a couple of suggestions within 2 minutes of asking.

Has any platinum subscribers worked out how to watch the condensed versions? or aren't they up yet?

Just watching West Ham v Cardiff on demand now. Got it up on the telly and it looks good, easily as good as Sky SD and better than on the laptop last night. Once again, no sign of any buffering. Quite impressed.

Another positive aspect of this that I hadn't really thought about before now is the ability to watch anywhere in the house (as well as anytime). I've got a family so the ability to watch a game while avoiding any arguments about who gets to use the telly is primo.

The true test is at 1pm today. Watch the first half of Utd v Swansea on PLP and then the second half on TV1 and see what the difference looks like.

Yeah I realised that advantage too. Dad watching golf, I chuck headphones in and watch football.

Downside however is not being able to play football manager while watching games! An Apple TV would fix that.

Hmm... Looking at the 'popular games' i.e Man U and Arsenal I can see a drop off in quality (still very watchable) even on a 100Mbps connection. This may well be the ways of things, I'll try later and see if it's any better.

Actually it's poor now on most games, I expect that there are a lot more people watching.

Had a great morning and watched three games in full then fast forward for the goal highlights on all the others. This is way better than Sky for me.

The quality is still suspect 7.9 download speed, can't get a constant stream at even 800kbs, opened up another tab and streamed 1080p Planet Earth footage no problem on Youtube... just signed up for another free trial so will play around with the router tonight and might just move the PC and plug in the ethernet and see if I get better performance.

If I can't see the bubbles on  West Ham games, what's even the point of life?

I had dramatically better picture quality after switching to Internet Explorer instead of Chrome. Has anyone else experienced/tried this? Also, for the techies out there, would this have anything to do with me being on a laptop with Windows 8?

It is a shame that some have lag issues though. As it means there is an element of risk in parting with your $150-240. The 10,000 free one day passes were a good idea, but they'd do we'll to either do this again, or make the one day pass cheaper for the next few weeks, so that people can try before they buy. Or maybe an introductory month pass.

To be honest I've been surprised that there haven't been more promo efforts like this, the free day pass idea seems like a no-brainer.

Yeah it's a completely new product that changes people's behaviour. It is literally marketing 101 that you allow people to trial it before they buy it. They need to do more imo.

Just wondering how much data everyone used watching PLP. It says I've only used 1360MB today. I watched the whole united game, manually switching between 1600 and 3000 kbps. I also watched about half the liverpool game. also during today I watched the Premier League World Show at 1600kbps, and some of the highlight clips. I would of expected the united game to of used at least the quoted average of 1.1GB plus maybe another half gig or a bit less for the liverpool game.

I think that is part of the problem, JarrodM, you talk aboutl manually switching between Kbps for performance. 95 per cent of us wouldn't have a clue what you are talking about. I'm just about to head on and have my first crack thanks to tigerp>

Yeah as nufc said when playing a match move your mouse so the control buttons come up and it'll either say what bit rate you're at or "best available".

The main point of my post though was just wondering how much data it was using for everyone. Cause mine seems rather low (so much so I think the whole games usage hasn't been recorded for some reason)

A question about data - does watching four games at once on split screen use four times more?

Don't think so. I think it'd use more but not 4 more. When watching more than one it drops down the bit rate, I'm not sure how low though, whether its to 1600 or 800. Might be 1600 for two games and when you're watching 4 could be down to 800, so the total would be 3200. But yeah I'm not sure what rate it goes down to, but they're not all at 3000.

It'll be interesting to know how it all goes at "peak time" when there's heaps of fans using the service. Will the quality drop ? All you subscribers should co-ordinate to all log on at a specific time and really give the servers a work out. Thus proving to you and to us interested non users, just how robust the service is.

Dad at 630 text me to say the west ham game kept freezing. Suspect that might be the reason LG. told him to pause and let it load a bit more, also set it to lower than 3000 and just watch on laptop. He replied saying it worked now and he can watch the league at the same time now, so was happy enough.

So yeah, had our first issue with it I guess.

So it's quite easy to download a whole match video if you wanted to. I think it would break the terms and conditions though. but through me finding out you can do this, I discovered that the total size of the 3000kbps stream is 2.5GB, and the 1600 is 1.5GB.

Also once the games are on demand, if you know the URL you can view the game without logging in. maybe a bit of a security problem there.

According to media reports, viewers of PLP are about evenly divided between having good and bad streams:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10914013

They post a selection of Twitter responses there.

My experience has not been a good one. On my "24 hour trial" (still streaming 37 hours after registering) I'm finding I get crap picture quality every game I've been watching. Am watching Palace v Spurs right now on my laptop and it's still crap - worse than many dodgy free streams I've watched...

- pixilated and only watchable on "reduced' picture size - unwatchable on "full screen" . Same with the "on demand" replays.

Wouldn't pay $30 for this low quality, let alone $150.

Watching Spurs play now, had major issues last night but flagged the wireless and plugged the Ethernet cable directly into laptop from router and have watched the entire first half with no issues whatsoever.

Only gripe is that I would describe the picture quality as 'good', no where near as clear as Sky with the HD tkt.

Thankful that its working fine, but ultimately disappointed with the picture quality

Sky will be loving this mixed feedback. I have yet to see anyone really say "this is awesome, the best thing ever". PLP must surely see this weekend as a fail overall.

Loading was fine for me over the weekend.  Picture quality was fine.  I really liked being able to view what ever game you want rather than waiting for sky to show it on delay.

Considering some of us were used to watching this on Sky HD and this doesn't give that quality yet, I think the best we can expect is a clear picture without freezing. I am reasonably content. As with Tegal, I also experienced the freezing in the second half of WHU v Cardiff for  a minute at a time on three occasions. Was told by someone that if others were using computers in the house at the same time, this could effect the reception quality.

Much better today, getting between 1600 and 3000, looks great. The secret was playing it on Internet Explorer. 1st time I have used that browser in 10 years but made a world of diference. Will buy the season pass now, I am happy with the quality.

For sure, the picture quality is defiantly worse than Sky HD. This is very evident on a 55 inch tv. So you can add all the bells and whistles but if the sound and picture are less than what we expected no one is ultimately going to be positive about a service that is sub par to what sky offered. . But on demand is pretty good, didn't have any luck with split screening games though. But hopefully they increase quality and performance as the season gets on. But they have a ransom on the EPL, so I will get the pass so I can watch the shit show of Arsenal's season, but am still annoyed at this hassle considering I have to pay an extra 130 dollars a year for my sport.

We have Arsenal TV too don't forget (the online version, not the Sky stuff) so the only reason to pay for Coliseum is to watch live (or first thing on demand).

I've gotta watch live so as I see more feedback like yours I'm closer to pulling the trigger. If they had their Android and/or Apple TV apps sorted I'd be into it now.

Having the top 6 clubs delayed will be far than enough for more people, but I just love staying up all night and watching some EPL. It's my zen time. Will hold off for the Apple TV app. Though or until my free trials run out.

Interesting that you say Internet Explorer is better than another browser, Goonertron. In what way better? Smoother images? Less pauses?

In comparison to Firefox, or Chrome? Could it be that as your non-normal browser, it is just not full of extensions etc?

I am using Chrome in fullscreen kiosk mode, with a seperate user profile (launched through XBMC).

I haven't purchased the full membership but was absolutely impressed with the service. A few hiccups with replay availability but definitely better than any stream I have ever had.

For me, a guy without Sky at all, this service is much more attractive to me than if I had wanted to watch EPL last year. In terms of price and also flexibility and choice range.

Also having the laptop option is bloody awesome as I could sit it up in bed - or take that option when others used tv..

Yeah, it's interesting. It's definitely not a slam-dunk success but I thought overalll they had a pretty decent debut.

Even though some people didn't experience great quality the important thing is that some people did, so the potential is there. We know it works, but probably requires a bit more fiddling at both the PLP and user end to get the best performance.

I also found that once again, despite best intentions, I got nowhere near the telly on Sunday afternoon to watch any of the free coverage.

I had though that I might not sign up for this and just make do, but having had a look at it now I think I might have changed my mind. The "on-demand" and "watch anywhere" features are of greatest benefit for me.

I used Chrome on Saturday night and had a bad experience, saw earlier in this thread that someone else switched to IE and had better experience. So I tried that and they were right, smoother and didn't drop down below 1600. Were as the night before I would be lucky to have a smooth stream at 800. And I don't have any extensions on chrome as I recently downgraded to Windows 7 from Windows 8. But also Colliseum could of added more servers etc. Would be nice if they were a bit more transparent on the technical side of things.
