Do you know what flash settings you changed? Would love to be using Chrome.

Loving having the highlights show available, have already watched today's one, don't have to wait until late Tuesday night for it!! :)

15 seconds on the online chat with a tech guy at PLP and it was sorted. He got me to change two settings in the flash player and over the weekend it was running awesomely in HD...only problem is not being completely antisocial now...

edit with Chrome too. Yeh he got me to uncheck that hardware acceleration thing and to allow flash to store more in the cache or something...

hope PL backpass is back in some form too- that was really good last year.

Do you remember what settings you changed and how? Would love to be getting that result with Chrome.

Hopeless picture this morning, colours were all off and it looked like half of the Southampton team were actually playing for Liverpool. Very confusing.

go to the online support with PLP.

What I did was right click on the picture, get settings. Then selected hardware acceleration and unchecked the tick box. Next went to something about storage on the computer and increased the limit on amount of data that could be stored to unlimited.

Another weekend of perfect streaming quality for me. Watched one game live and a couple more OnDemand, and no issues at all. All the work PLP put into optimising the streaming last season has really paid off, great stuff.

The PLP at Four Kings wasn't the best quality, not sure if it was the streaming or the TVs they have down there (or a combo).

I only get 7.5Mbps (on speedtest.net - same via LAN or Wifi).  Quality pretty good, but just annoyingly jittery (don't notice too much once eyes get used to it). Not sure what we can do about it - I understand main problem is that we are a long way from the junction box (or whatever those boxes on the street are called).  And no, no fibre down our street (live along long private cul-de-sac thingy).  Is 7.5 unreasonably low?

Otherwise PLP product is superb.  Love it.

We were only getting 6Mbps until we switched from ADSL to Telecom VDSL. So no, 7.5 isn't entirely unreasonable for an ADSL connection.

Cheers, I suspect that is the case.  When I last looked VDSL not available where I am, but they recently upgraded the local cabinet (from an bomb-like thing to a filing cabinet-like thing), so that may have changed.

Investigate time.

Does anyone else watch the games and later when they try to sign back in, find themselves blocked? Has happened twice to me now. They clear it for me via the chat no problem, but I am trying to figure why it is happening. Being careful with my password etc.

Totes off topic but is VDSL worth the extra $10? Is it that much better??

Yup. Don't notice it on normal internet usage, but the quality on streaming video (on PLP and Netflix) is always smooth with no stuttering at the highest quality now, when it definitely wasn't before on ADSL.

I'm still 100% convinced that the last two/three pages of this thread are exactly the reason why something like this won't go completely mainstream for another generation or two. I know my way around a computer, well actually I don't really but most of the last couple of pages has been complete gobbbledegook and presents such a major barrier to entry that for a chunk of people it's not worth the trouble.

I'm in the same position as you Bopman (with the gobbledegook), however it really isn't that hard.  If you are watching of your computer you just need to sign up.  If you watch via you tv, you just need an HDMI cable to connect the computer to the laptop.

Admittedly if you have issues from there then you might need to figure some of the gobbledegook out or ask someone, but the stuff on the previous pages doesn't necessarily have to play a part in things.

And as an aside it was far easier for me to get and use PLP then it was for Vodafone to connect us up when we moved house at the start of the year (best part of 3 months before they hooked us up).

for those with Chrome a possible cause of issues with streaming services is that they added a different flash client, Pepperflash, as default that clashes with Adobe. Some very clear instructions how to disable Pepper here:

There's a free app for android tablet users. I use Chrome and have no problems, no jittery football through the air issues or anything like that. All I do is open the app, login to the website and start watching. In bed and a 10" screen, life doesn't get much better than that.

While I now enjoy PLP I have to say being able to MySky the Spurs v West Ham game on Sunday morning (live on TV ONE at 2am) was great.

I got up, grabbed the Sky remote, pushed the planner button, selected the game and then 'go'.

The ability to fast forward through games whilst seeing the action on screen is something I really miss on PLP. I don't always have the best part of 2 hrs to view a game.

We have just moved and now have VDSL at around 35mbs so the streaming is excellent (I use Apple TV) but the picture still isn't quite as good as on Sky, there is still that slight jerky motion on wide shots.

This is most apparent the larger the screen you're viewing on. The game on my iPad Air is pretty much flawless but the 42" shows the at times slightly jerky pic.

If you have Sky and your team is one of the teams in the featured game, my recommendation is to view is that method.

Depending on your laptop there's usually a function and button combination to flick through in order to change between laptop + screen, laptop only, screen only.  On my Toshiba its function F5, however look on yours for a button that looks like a screen and a laptop.

You should also be able to right click on your desktop and go to graphic properties and switch between monitors.

Right click on your desktop background. Look for Graphic Options>Output to.

If you're using Mac, hahahahahahahaha. Bad luck.

Can someone explain the easiest way to get an HDMI cable. I don't understand why places like Dick Smith/JB Hi Fi don't stock them? It's like you need a secret handshake or something... and when I try to use the intertubes it's like there's 140,000 varieties and I am stuffed if I know which one I need.

I just want to connect my laptop to my tv.

PB Tech are good and about the cheapest around. Mostly just about choosing the right length of HDMI to HDMI for your requirements though they are quite thick cables and so the longer ones can be quite bulky when coiled and tucked behind the telly when not in use.

http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?p=search&sf=hdmi... This one looks like the one I have and never had a problem

http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=CABDNX8006...

If you have a Mac you'll also need one of these which plugs into the Mini Display Port (which is the one next to the USB ports on the left)

Don't spend more than $10 on a hdmi cable. Doesn't matter how expensive they are, they all work exactly the same. I got mine for $8 on trademe, i'm sure there are more.

No, the jerky motion is everywhere except on my ipad. I have a 55" Samsung tv with the new app which is almost unwatchable. Chrome is bad so I have to use god awful internet explorer.. smh....

The picture was really good for me but it still has that jerky motion. A lot better than last season and good enough for me to sign up instead of waiting for the Sky delay. But like you, when my team are the TV One game I'll go for that, and it is my team this week.

Regarding internet, I'm only on ADSL (with Vodafone) with a speed ranging from 7-10mbps. Wonder if a faster connection might make a difference to the PLP experience. Unfortunately VDSL is not available at my address and Fibre won't be in the area for another couple of years (and even it was available now we're currently renting and up a driveway shared by 4 houses so the chances of getting everyone to agree to the driveway being dug up are probably remote). According to Vodafone's website ultra fast cable broadband is available (I guess that's the old Telstra servce?). Would it be worth switching to that? Does anyone have it or know what kind of speeds you get? What kind of installation/wiring would be involved if the house hasn't had it before? Might be worth looking into.

FFA cup streaming their games online live. Also NZA vs Scotland cricket being streamed live. Sports don't need sky to show their product anymore (or as much as they used to). The NBL in nz also streams online.

Cuts out the middle man which is good for sports other than rugby trying to get exposure locally. Obviously sports big enough to command a fee from broadcasters will potentially still choose a middle man, but streaming online and taking all the money from subscriptions is still a potential option, and will that option become more and more attractive in the future?
