We were incredibly lucky and I think this is as far as we are going.
Like you say we need some points with the last 9 league games have resulted in 0 wins, 2 draws and 7 losses. We have scored 6 goals and had a staggering 21 scored against us.
I fear the worst.

another point towards safety (and Marlon doing us a favour v Pompey)

hopefully we won't pick up any injuries in the quarter -final ( not of the LDV Vans Trophy, or Jonhstone's Paints ... ) of the FA Cup, so we can focus on getting to mid-table in the prem

sounds like we might have got a draw on another day

well OzTiger, i am starting to agree with you about the human tragedy that is Caleb Folan

and Toffeeman - a bit disappointed that your (other) lot didn't inflict a bit of misery on Portsmouth

Caleb does a commendable impression of a Swiss army knife when he runs. If someone could teach him to get his right leg moving in the same direction as his left leg then he could become formidable.
We could just about survive with a win and two draws as this would leave both Newcastle and Middlesborough needing 9 points from their last 8 games and I don't think they can achieve that.
Our problem is that we cannot attract the 'quality' players needed at this level which will need one of three things:
1. A take-over of the Club by new owners who have lots of money.
2. An upgrade (through sponsorship and investment) of the financial infrastructure the Club requires at this level.
2. A Manager who has the expertise and experience to persuade prospective 'quality' targets to join Hull City.

Even "Blind Freddy" can see that we do not have anywhere near the number of players who can perform at this level of football. We have four (imo) being Turner, Ricketts, Dawson and Geovanni. I would like to see McShane back but we will still need another 2 defenders, an entirely new midfield and two new strikers. All of which supplemented with loanee players. A hard ask but not entirely impossible under new ownership.

A good 'in-the-know' friend on the Hull City forum sites tells me that the Paul Duffen led Consortium have nowhere near the amount of money required t support a Premier League Club. Their aim was to get to the Premier league in 3 years and then sell the club on for a huge profit. They did this in 1 year, were consequently ill-prepared for top level football and the "World Financial Crisis' put paid to any take-overs leaving them holding the baby. Word has it that they have taken money out rather than put money in.

The solution:

PADDLES FOR SALE!
PADDLES FOR SALE!
PADDLES FOR SALE!

4 more points and I think we're safe. Especially if we get them against Boro and Newcastle. Beating Stoke would be nice too.

'the Boat' should be on the bench v Boro

re beating Stoke, that would have been even more likely if Beattie had come to us, instead of wearing stripes of the wrong colours and straining his neck looking at planes and Delap's throws flying overhead

shame Deano can't come off the bench and warm up like at their place,

oh well, as long as Daws has a towel handy to take the piss out of Delap trying to polish the maker's name off the  ball before each throw

Our problem is not staying up but attracting players capable of performing at this level.
Firstly they simply won't come and secondly we couldn't afford them if they would.
Look at Sunderland. When I left Hull in 1967 we had a population almost double that of Sunderland. Our team was in the second division (recently promoted) and we were getting gates of 30,000. Sunderland were in the First division and getting gates at Roker Park of 70,000. With new boundries being created Hull has shrunk in population but remains well above Sunderland. We can pack 25,000 into the KC Stadium yet at Sunderland yesterday there was over 42,000 in the Stadium of Light.
We are the 'poor relations' of this league and came up two years too early. We need to regroup, go back to the three year plan and make plans with the Council-owned stadium operators to expand the stadium in the event of promotion. The current owners would have to try and sell the Club on to people who have the money to invest in the club and attract the quality players required. Only then could we consolidate in the English Premier League.
A big ask but our current side are a mere 'band-aid' solution compared to what is required. All credit to them for giving it their best shot but they would be the first to admit that they are way out of their depth at this level of football.
Turner may move on should be drop but he is nowhere near worth 10 million quid and Myhill is not worth 5 million either. Geovanni has another year to go on his contract but cannot play a full 90 minutes now so I doubt he will be able to in a years time. We will lose Barmby, Bridges, France, Welsh and Windass this summer with Ashbee and Ricketts getting an extension to their contracts. Next summer we will lose Boateng, Duke, Folan, Garcia, Geovanni, Hughes and Warner. Myhill and Dawson probably getting an extension to their contracts whilst Marney is here until 2012(?).
By that time we will hopefully have new owners who can take the club back to the EPL.

what you say makes sense ozTiger,

but l'm still focused on staying up - i reckon we might need to hope that the Boro 'revival' fades and the Shearer continues to fail to fire up newcastle

I'd like to talk optimisitcally about us, but i'm more reliant on the three sides below us continuing to be slightly worse than us

cousin hopefully back, ash back for soke,

garcia just had keyhole surgery, which i suppose, is at least better than having surgery in any other hole

Well, I have forecast an 8-0 thrashing by Liverpool and Newcastle to win against Portsmouth. Middlesbrough should get zilch from Arsenal and Blackburn could well get a point from Wigan so that would leave us a mere 1 point clear of the drop.
The good news is that Stoke may have lost Beattie for the rest of the season so we may yet get some points - but will they be enough?

3 points against stoke would be v useful (beattie has really been the difference for them since jan)

hopefully villa will stay in the doledrums until after we depart with a point or ?

and bolton might get a reversal of the luck that saw jaskilainnen save their bacon at our place

and finally from here  in wishful thinking land, man u might still all be pissed when they come to us having picked up the title already

but it's a f**king grim process, this business of hanging on by our fingertips!

apart from Folan's 'contribution' we weren't disgraced,

blaming the ref won't change anything be there has to be a question mark round dodgy freekick for their 1st goal and handball in their 2nd

hoping that performance will lift us, certainly some nice movement on occasions and plenty of effort

a striker would be useful - surely cousin has to start next up

Yes, they performed much better than I thought they would but our weaknesses were exposed.
Liverpool certainly miss Gerrard. There were two Liverpool players well offside when the rebound from the free-kick was sent in but nobody seemed to notice (or care).
