Happy Birthday to The Kop (the actual one - not the forumite of the same name)

Free video on the LFC site to celebrate. Some fantastic goals including some from the season just finished to old black and white footage.

Great footage. I dream of watching a game packed in the middle of that stand. Awesome goals from Gerrard and Barnes in there not to mention that stunner of save from Brucey!

Correct! 103 years old.

https://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N164680090622-0815.htm

Meanwhile the good news just keeps coming:
- The Johnson deal cost a net 10M as Pompey still owed us 7M from the Crouch deal so (according to Rafa) we still have enough cash to buy one more player without selling anyone.
- The players we are looking at selling are Leto, Voronin and Dossena. Not disappointed about any of those.
- Arbeloa may not be sold. According to Rafa "Alvaro Arbeloa has had a very good season but he has one year left on his contract. If he signs that will be good because we will have more competition, but if we get a good offer we will have to consider it.''
- RBS has agreed to refinance the owners loans on the club. Wachovia are expected to follow suit which would mean financial stability and owners with cash

Now we just need another striker or a winger

Nice! I read Rafa's comments this morning too and it put a chipper smile on my face. Our chances of picking up Silva (provided he's a target) may have increased with the news that Real are giving up on Villa after Valencia backed out and decided not to sell.

Not for Alonso. 30mil won't buy you a new player and a premiership next season. Status quo is crucial, just add one more signing Rafa*!!

Reds interested in Dynamo defender

Liverpool are reported to be interested in Dynamo Moscow defender Leandro Fernandez.

Liverpool and Lazio have both held prelim talks with Dynamo - but the club will not let their star go for anything less than 8.5 million (Daily Mail)

Another defender! Come on...

Few dollars trickling in from sales now.

Hmm, I was wondering, why doesn't Silva start for the Spanish? Riera starts ahead of him, no?

Haven't heard of him, to be honest. Is he a centreback?

Yip, Ripthajacka, thats right. But I hope Rafa sees the sense of keeping him!

I noted the same about Reira, he's started ahead of Silva during the Confed cup (and the build up) I'm sure it was the other way around in the past. Surely Silva's a classier player than Reira? I wonder what Rafa's plans are for him this season?

I believe Fernandez is a CB. I know nothing about him.

What positions do you think we really need. Would Silva be the right kind of buy? I would love to have him and all that but we don't really use wingers do we? Riera had a good start to the season but kind of died out and kuyt seems to have made that starting position his. I wonder if Rafa doesn't really need a player in that position? Maybe he is more interested in a second striker?

Good points there. Might be time to take me blinkers off...

There's no doubt Silva would be a good buy but it's fair to say that Reira and Babel fit into Rafa's plan. As much as I'm not Babel's biggest fan he mostly does well off the bench. Reira is obviously playing well to consistently get a starting spot for Spain so Rafa must be confident he can fill that wing spot. We've just bought a solid defender so I don't feel we have too many issues there. Our midfield is solid and I can't see Rafa selling off the backbone of our team so Tyler, I think your right. Maybe our focus should be on that second striker... now who??

Nice! Tevez already said no though. Villa too pricey. Eto'o's a rank outsider.

Huntelaar will need a new home.

Huntelaar could be good. Van Der Vaart is a kind of striker isn't he.  Lavessi? There doesn't seem to be many quality strikers around. Arbeloa looks like he has gone as well.  5 million pounds seem quite cheap for him although I suppose he only has one year left

I just read about a possible 5m offer from Real, I thought he's worth bit more than that.

Interesting rumour:
And Liverpool could make a deal with Madrid which includes Gabriel Heinze. Liverpool will be looking to replace Sami Hyypia in some way this summer and we may elect to take the option of the player plus cash for Arbeloa. The Times reports that the reds and Chelsea have joined Spurs in looking at the player.

Still that's just replacing a defender with a defender. Doesn't solve the striker/forward issue.

EDIT:

What about this from BBC sport: "Midfielder Cesc Fabregas has dropped his biggest hint yet that he could leave Arsenal, calling the club "impotent" because of their failure to challenge for the title and suggesting he would like to join Real Madrid? " Good news for Liverpool as it means real are going to forget Xabi? Here's hoping.

Re Voronin, in that Article it almost looks like he had been told that he could come back an have another chance! Far out, sometimes I wonder what goes on in Rafas mind. Still he has a great scoring rate.

"So, for anyone who is unclear or may have misunderstood what my position is, let me make myself absolutely crystal clear. I am wholeheartedly committed to Arsenal and my future lies with this great club."

Pretty much sums it up.

I see United are making ripples over Huntelaar too...

Anyone got any tips about getting tickets to games?

I'll be over in the UK in late August and really, really, really want to catch the Villa game @ Anfield, but I know it's notoriously difficult to suss tickets out.

I can get onto the online ticket ballot via LFCTV, but want to know if anyone knows the best way to guru up tickets if that fails?

I've heard to stay away from online agents, and don't want to put my trust in some scalper...

All help/advice appreciated.

Same here. Keeping a close eye on that site, and to see when the e-season pass ballot opens.

Hopefully I can get tickets secured before getting over there.

Been waiting 20 odd years for this opportunity, so hope like hell it comes off...

Fingers crossed they can help out.

My wife daughter and I were last over there in 2000, and went to visit the museum at Anfield a couple of days before Arsenal game, above the ticket office there were sold out signs, but my wife went up showed our passports said how desperate we were to see game as we dont get the chance very often. To our suprise we were asked how many we wanted, we got four, not great seats front row in front of the main stand, having said that any seat at Anfield is great.
Give it a go nothing to lose, for some reason they seem to keep a few tickets back. Good luck let us know how you get on.

Fernando Torres has recommended three of his Spanish international team-mates to Rafael Benitez in the hope that the Liverpool manager will sign one.

The striker insists any one of Valencia attacking trio David Silva, Juan Mata or David Villa would help the Reds win a first top-flight title in 20 years.

"I have recommended Silva, Mata or Villa to Benitez and I hope we have the money to buy them," said Torres.
"They're small players with quality and maybe they can make the difference."

Good lad!

Also, have a quiet word and tell Xabi to STAY!!!! But yeah, these are the kind of players we need, I suppose. I'm pretty happy with our team at the moment. Just need one more real quality player and maybe a couple of squad players. Hard to know.

Best of luck in getting tickets, mate! Hope you have a great time!

Real Madrid delay deal for Liverpool midfielder Alonso to foil pay-out
Real Madrid want to delay their offer for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso to prevent Real Sociedad claiming 20 per cent of any transfer fee.

Sociedad's agreement with Liverpool is believed to run out on July 18 and Madrid see it as an obstacle with Anfield's valuation at 35m and their last offer at 25m. The two clubs are prepared to negotiate and Alonso is expected to declare he wants to leave.

The 27-year-old was in Madrid on Monday and had dinner with his agent, Inaki Ibanez.

Alonso said: 'I don't know what is going to happen. It is up to the clubs to negotiate now.'

An 8m deal for defender Alvaro Arbeloa to go to Madrid is already in place.

Here's a blast from the past. Voted our greatest match from the 70's and one of the great Anfield comebacks, highlights of the European Cup game against St Etienne.

Love the hairdo's, the surge from the standing Kop, back passes to the keeper. Enjoy!
