Levy's approach is to let Liverpool do the scouting and then buy the players they are after whether they they fit the system or not.

I'm just not supremely confident in our ability to "spend wisely".

I certainly have a bit of faith in BR to make a few good buys, but our transfer record over the past few seasons has been pretty hit and miss. Granted there are some very solid hits there in the likes of Suarez and Sturridge, but more of our big name signings have failed than have succeeded. Aside from the aforementioned SAS the majority of our best players this year were either home grown talents or formerly average players who BR managed to get playing out of their skin.

Selling our best player puts a lot of pressure on us to be able to reinvest that on players who can perform to the expected standard and immediately, and I think our recent transfer records suggests that it's a rather bad idea to put too many eggs in that basket.
