Guardian are claiming we've just signed Luke Young from Villa for 2.75. That came out of the blue... Luke Young

Europa first leg squad has been named. None of the English boys:
Cavalieri, Gulacsi, Kelly, Ince, Skrtel, Agger, Wilson, Kyrgiakos, Ayala, Darby, Shelvey, Eccleston, Amoo, Dalle Valle, Aquilani, Lucas, Spearing, Ngog, Jovanovic.
Sounds like there's some trouble with personal terms which is good. Not sure I really want Young. We can do better...
Skrtel played just as much as Gerrard & Johnson, don't really get why all the England boys are rested. Agger played more minutes than Carragher and Cole too... But anyway
What kind of team are we going to field??
Cavalieri
Darby Kyrgiakos Skrtel Agger
Spearing Lucas
Aquilani
Amoo Jovanovic
Ngog
Picked Darby ahead of Kelly, 'cause he's a bit more mobile like the other 3 CB and Amoo 'cause he's fast and not sure about other players.

I reckon Torres will leave Liverpool-- to Man City, which will really piss me off.
Looking like we might be keen on poulsen. What is with our latest fetish with wanting to sign players over 30? Not exactly planning for the future!!
I think you're right about the kids, Linds. I have to say I'm extra pleased with some of the youth coming through. With some of the old heads hitting their thirties having these youngsters like Shelvey, Pacheco, Wilson, Spearing etc coming through and learning from the seniors is grea for the club. Hopefully over the next year or two they can really boost the ranks. Some encouraging prospects for the future at any rate.
Not fussed about the result. Half those guys haven't played for a few weeks so just getting some minutes was good.
More here:
i would literally be close to death from laughter. karma bitch
Would like to see Pacheco get some regular action this season, if that means he has to be loaned out then maybe to a Premier League team so we can see if he can adapt to the "Premier League style" and mostly for selfish reasons because Real Sociedad aren't shown much on tv.
Luke young? Oh dear. I really do not rate him at all. Maybe roy can get something out of him...........

Looks pretty sensible to me. Don't know much about Amoo either... All will be revealed tomorrow
Kelly in for Darby.
0-0 10min
0-0 10min
Ngog scores. Lads aren't looking too bad at the moment.
ngog's 2nd 2-0 good good!
I get worried everytime Aqua goes to ground...
Classic, some of the lights have gone out
Nice win this morning lads. The youngsters stepped up and some good play from the experienced guys too. Lucas, Agger etc.
May not even need the Seniors for the next leg
May not even need the Seniors for the next leg
Fishing?
Pacheco is awesome. Worth a throw into the first team more often, I think. He's good enough. Helped destroy England the other day. Drenthe is rubbish- even if it was semi-true. Young is terrible. Good win this morning. Well-taken goals from Ngog. Can't be unhappy at that. Don't think we need the seniors for the next game at all. Goood stuff.
Good win, only caught the highlights (crap quality video too). Nice to start the season with a win. N'Gog looked sharp.
Looking like we might be keen on poulsen. What is with our latest fetish with wanting to sign players over 30? Not exactly planning for the future!!
Agreed. He is sh*te.
Could it be a case of sign players on the cheap until new owners/cash arrive?
At the rate that the yanks are going all of the squad will be 35 before they agree to drop their asking price!
We have just re-signed Aurelio. Hope he can stay fit this season.Don't think we will be signing Young now.

Yay a left back, happy to have Fabio back.
All good news with Aurelio. Young can stay where he is.
Scott Parker is supposedly someone Roy wants to come in to replace Mascherano. 8m for Parker seems ok, although he has had injury worries and is almost 30 so not going to get too many years out of him.
Still up after watching Lewis Hamilton crap out of the F1, so watched a bit of the end of the 'Gladbach game. Obviously another disappointing result 1-0 defeat, but yeah only pre-season with again plenty of youngsters and reserves.
A few points though:
Aurelio straight back into action after signing.
Raheem Steerling and Fernandez Suso both getting a little run both are 15 and suppose to be huge prospects, the former in particular playing for QPR (not sure if he actually played championship football at 15).
JonJo Shelvey playing plenty of minutes.
Didn't see Joe Cole play.
Wilson looked quite good, positioning was good, composed on the ball. Although he played a made a horrible pass that almost led to a goal linds2010-08-02 02:38:42

I see Steven Defour's (Standard Liege) name has been battered around a bit lately with the imminent departure of Masch. He looks an interesting prospect. Not sure I'm in the Poulsen camp... Too old.

But, but, but Rafa's kids were useless, his youth policy was a joke etc...
Pacheco is awesome. Has been a great hope of ours for a while. Suso is boss too. 30 seconds, yay. But this kid is special. Apparently Shelvey did really well, which is nice. And Wilson looked good, so thats good stuff.
Lots of talk about Kenny Huang at the moment. I hope RBS come through and leave H&G with zip.
Widespread reports in the English press suggest Chinese billionaire Kenny Huang is in negotiations to take charge of Liverpool.
Associated
Kenny Huang is said to be on the brink of a hostile takeover. Huang, the chief executive of Chinese sports investment company QSL, is said to have lodged a bid to the Royal Bank of Scotland, which would leave the current owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, without profit.
Hicks and Gillett are said to be looking for 600 million but - following the refinancing deal put in place earlier this year - RBS is able to take control of the sale if it feels it will offer the best chance of repaying its loan. Huang has apparently made a direct offer to repay the 237 million debt.
The Daily Telegraph claims that, as a result of Huang's valuation, Gillett has told the RBS he is in advanced negotiations with Syrian businessman Yahya Kirdi to delay the sale.
Hicks and Gillett put Liverpool up for sale in April but there has so far been little prospect of a deal being completed. A New York-based equity firm earlier made an attempt to purchase a 40% stake, but the bid was dismissed by the duo.
Hicks and Gillett purchased Liverpool for a reported 219 million in 2007 and, speaking in April, Hicks said: "Liverpool will be the most profitable investment I have ever made. I should make four times my money."
The Independent says Fernando Torres "was briefed on the approach some time ago and will be encouraged, on his return to Melwood, to await the outcome of discussions between the tycoon and Royal Bank of Scotland". Torres is keen to see further investment at Anfield.

apparently not dealing with rbs but barclays capital, wants the deal sealed in two weeks so woy can have time to invest in the squad.
i would imagine that if there are no other acceptable offers then rbs will be able to more or less make
the yanks sell up

I'd be happy if those damn yanks didn't make cent one out of the sale. Certainly sounds promising.

Good news with Nando coming out and confirming he's staying (not that it was ever in doubt)
"My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed. I am looking forward to the challenge ahead," Torres said. "I am really happy to be back, really happy to stay with all my team-mates.
"This is the best club in the country so the targets and expectations are always high. At Liverpool the aim is to fight for every title. It was difficult last season, but we are sure we can improve this season."
Oh and Insua's deal looks like it's off so we're back where we ended last season... this has to be one of the oddest transfer windows for a while. Cole and Jova on freebies. Aurelio and Insua out and then in again. TheKop2010-08-04 08:12:45

This guy Kenny looks pretty shrewd. He's trying very hard to screw H&G out of every cent.
Investors deem Liverpool shares ''worthless''
I just hope it doesn't back fire like it did with the Texas Rangers. Hicks backed out of the buy outs as he wasn't getting his dollars worth so he put Rangers in administration (or something to that effect). Heaps of pressure on RBS though. Guaranteed clearance of $250 odd million pounds is nothing to let slip by.TheKop2010-08-04 08:23:55

Like the sound of this:
The key phrases I like:
"Liverpool stand to become the most powerful club in world football..."
"...Liverpool the wealthiest club on the planet"
"...aimed to push Liverpool beyond the means of even the richest clubs"
"...taking Liverpool to a scale as yet unseen in English football..."
"That would eventually enable Liverpool to compete to buy the world's best players in every position"
and the last one:
"...and the RBS is keen for this deal to proceed."
Sod off yanks, you've done enough damage.
Happy that Insua is staying. Think he's a good player with plenty of potential.
Lots of reports coming out that Kenny has already brought in the prem league execs giving 10 days notice of intent to buy too.
Can't deny that those phrases are milk and honey to the ears and if these guys are as big as the reports say they are and given how big Liverpool is in Asia then hope it comes to fruition. I just hope that it's first things first and we get a new damn stadium underway and some investment in the club before we go gallivanting around the world.

Even if Kenny Huang is eventually unsuccessful in his attempt to take control of Liverpool, he will still have done the clubs fans a great service.
The news, this week, that the Chinese businessman has engaged directly with the RBS as he looks to put pressure on current owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett to sell, can only be good news for long-suffering Reds.
Huang knows that his strategy of trying to force the price down by threatening to buy the owners debt from RBS is a risky one, and so too was his decision to go public with the plan, because it will undoubtedly entrench the positions of the much-reviled Americans.
But there was method in his madness. He wants the RBS to be engaged in his process, to be put in the spotlight, so they are forced to help persuade the Yanks to sell at a realistic price.
He is not alone in thinking that the bank has got away for too long with getting into bed with the Americans to underpin their hated regime, when the vast majority of decent Liverpool supporters want them out of the club.
Senior RBS officials have for too long hidden behind their cloak of business invisibility, and what Huang is clearly trying to do is to put pressure on them to fall in behind his bid to buy the club, by telling the Americans they must sell, or they will pull the plug on the 240million loans that are currently the only thing that stand between Liverpool and bankruptcy.
Many fans feel the same thing. A group of them, and amongst them Steve Horner, the supporter who was the subject of that infamous blow me **** face email from Tom Hicks jnr.
Steve, and a like-minded group of decent Liverpool supporters have been running a campaign for some months, highlighting the role the RBS have played in keeping the Americans in power.
Their latest effort is an artwork, which you can see here, which illustrates the extent to which the RBS Chief Executive Stephen Hester is in bed with the hated Yanks.
Steve is also behind a petition, you as fans can sign, which again protests at the role RBS are playing in plunging Liverpool closer to the abyss, all the time they are keeping Hicks and Gillett in power at Anfield.
Steves campaign is important in light of what Mr Hueng is trying to do.
Essentially, when you cut to the heart of his plan, he is trying to emphasise to the Americans that their asking price of almost 600million is ridiculous.
He wants them to be realistic and listen to offers at the level the market has recently suggested Liverpool is worth, which is somewhere, variously, between 300-400million.
Quite obviously, Hicks and Gillett wont want to sell at that price, which is where RBS comes in. They have the power to help force through a sale if they get tough with the Yanks.
They are more likely to do that, if they sense Liverpool fans have had enough of their position, and are ready to start mass campaigning against the bank. Which is where you come in.
Read what Steve Horner and countless other Reds have to say on the subject, and then contact the RBS to suggest that they help ensure, in the next two weeks, that Hicks and Gillett accept a bid from Mr Hueng, or any other credible source.
That way, Liverpool can get rid of the debt which is crippling them, can build a new stadium that takes them forward, and can buy the players to compete at the top of the game.
With Anfield, chairman Martin Broughton accepts that is the only way to save Liverpool, and he is looking for a bid which meets all the above criteria. He is ready to stake his considerable reputation on finding that bid, and is already engaged in talks with Mr Hueng because he realises he is a credible bidder.
There is at least one other credible bid as well, which means that there is now real hope that a new owner can be found to deliver Liverpool from the clutches of the Yanks.
Yet there is still some way to go, because no one wants to pay the inflated asking price.
The RBS can help the Americans reduce that price, and if they do, then Liverpool fans like Steve Horner will have played their part.

I hope like f*ck that this goes through. That said, I also hope like f*ck that the good name of Liverpool FC doesn't get known as a club sucked dry by it's yank owners, that then turned into a Chelsea/ManC type "buy them whatever the cost" type club.
