Meh, I started in 1990 (during the cup run, not when it was already in the cabinet). Bite me :D

That guide should really read 'any Kiwi that doesn't already have a team should support Blackburn Rovers or West Ham United for obvious reasons (although more Rovers because Ryan actually plays for them)'

But the other rule is 'you never change your team' so I guess I'll just have to stick with United. It's a hard road I know.

Back on topic. #19! Loving the fact that we've finally knocked Liverpool off their perch. I'm also laughing at all the Scouse optimism ahead of next season already.
They are having a great run of form to end the season under Kenny I'll admit, but without a lot of spending over Summer there is no way that squad will be strong enough to mount a challenge over 38 games (plus the other competitions)

It will interesting to see the lineup.

I do worry about Vidic, especially against pace and also when strikers drop deep and he comes out of the defensive line - something Messi does a lot. Would imagine SAF would want a mobile high work rate team so could see:

               VDS
Raf/Fab     Rio   Vid      Evra
        Fletch    Anderson
Valencia     Rooney        Park
            Hernandez

This is the lineup I would start with, possibly Fabio over Rafael just because Fabio will be match fit from the games against Arsenal and Chelsea (forgive me for not doing my post match research as I'm not sure if the knock he took forced him off or if it was part cautionary/ part winding the clock down with a sub)

Only other possible change would be Giggs for one of Anderson or Fletcher as Fergie might want an old head out there.

Didn't think I'd opt for a lineup without Nani in it a few weeks ago but Valencia has been sensational for us recently. Especially against Chelsea, got forward and created chances for us while putting Ashley Cole in his back pocket and we know that whoever lines up against Barcelona will have a job to do against one of, if not the best attacking wingbacks in the world.

*Edit: Mind you, it'd most likely be park doing that job on the other side of the pitch anyway.joachim2011-05-10 18:25:44

Fixed that for you.

Seriously, if you're going to support a big team in a far-off land, it should be because you like their style.  Shirts are the most durable part of a team's identity - just pick the ones that dress the best, and then invent some more dignified reasons for adoring them.

To avoid any confusion given the current league table (which will soon change probably anyway):

Tottenham are NOT a "top four" team. The "topfour" are:

Man U - if you were born or started watching footy after 1988, you are not permitted to support them, unless you were born IN Manchester or your mum/dad supports them

Arsenal - if you were born or started watching footy after 1996, you are not permitted to support them, unless you were born IN north london or your mum/dad supports them

Chelsea - if you were born or started watching footy after 2000, you are not permitted to support them, unless you were born IN west london or your mum/dad supports them

Perennial strugglers Liverpool - You might be able to get away with supporting them actually.....

bascially, don't support the teams that win all the time. It makes the rest of us angry.
What if its the only team you ever managed to see on TV when you went to your grandparents house occasionally when you were just young buck?

Nah, Nani won't start ahead of Park - Park is the big game player SAF doesn't start without.

No question in my mind - Nani may well be on the bench for the final.

Oh sorry, I thought you guys were talking about the line up for Blackburn. Yeah totally agree with you that Park and Valencia will get the gig in the final.

haha, that's gold. It was a good performance.

How good is Hernandez?! Big raps from many, including Pele who today described him as having the potential to become the new Messi, well heck!

Looking forward to Rovers this weekend. Would love to seal the title with 3 points but would take a draw to aid Nelly's chances of staying up.

Blackburn v Utd
Blackpool v Bolton
Sunderland v Wolves
West Brom v Everton

All these games are on live in Oz at 9.40 and you can watch which ever one you want, or keep flicking over.
The FA cup is on later here on free to air TV.

According to United Site, Beckham has been invited back for Gary Neville's testimonial - Giggs, Scholes, Butt already confirmed as is Phil Neville.

Will be a very interesting night.

I asked Sky Sport if they would be showing it on Twitter, they replied saying it would be on SS3 at 11:40pm but the guide on their website still shows golf on at that time.

Hopefully whoever controls the twitter account is right.

It would, but his club side has a game against Houston the next day, so I doubt they will release him.

Of course no Arse player would do that?
You should be more concerned trying to hang on to third place.

Blackburn were just as bad. Just trying to distract us from the fact we've just become England's most successful top division team. Well done boys. Now for the Kids to beat Blackpool and the top dogs to come back and blow Barca away.

Well that was in general an outstanding weekend - I'm a very, very happy boy.

Very nervous throughout the match but we got the equalizer and from then on the draw was always on. I hope Blackburn stay up because of our glorious leader Ryan - hopefully they've done enough.

As for next weekend, well I think we will play a team similar to the one that played in the second leg against Schalke - I'm not too sure if there is anyone that has to play to get enough appearances for a medal? I know Antonio was in that position before Blackburn.

It's so tight at the bottom - I think we will beat Blackpool, but even that might be enough for them if Birmingham (who have been awful recently) and Wigan get smashed.

I think we will have some of our lesser first team players in there, the likes of Wes Brown (who I still rate over Evans), Gibson, Evans etc. Also maybe expect to see a couple of young players, the likes of Ravel Morrison, Norwood, Gill perhaps, maybe even Vermijl on the bench. STILL eagerly anticipating Pogba's debut but I think I might have to wait another year at least. He might make the Summer Tour.

After a long Sat. night watching Utd followed by the FA Cup I decided not to get up and watch any football last night as I had an early start for work.
Woke up about 30 min into the games and burst out laughing that Arsenal were 2 down and Liverpool 1 down.
Started to watch the West Ham game- they were 2 up, but thought I better go back to bed.Lay there for a while and thought I'll get up to watch the end of all the games.
The Wigan game was the best as it was end to end stuff. Shocking goalkeeping for the winner. Was never a pen for Spurs but great result.
Can't believe Arsenal lost at home again.
Final weekend will be very interesting. Still a number of teams that could go down.

Interesting article with David Gill quoted as saying we have a goalkeeper lined up and that some of the wider squad players may be on the way out. Again Ashley Young linked, don't know about you Paulinho but I would be disappointed if we signed him, we have Nani, Valencia (best wide man in the league) and Park who are more than handy in this position. i think the money would be better spent elsewhere. A striker, A central midfielder and a GK. lets hope we aren't waiting for the whole off season for new signings. Thoughts?

We need at least two midfield players, a keeper and a striker as well.
I'm sure AF will get what is required.

Yeah agree with that. Sneijder would be dream. Depends on Scholesy's desicion and how many games we can get out of Hargreaves if he is given a pay as you play deal. That leaves Ando (looking good) Carrick, Fletch, Giggs (??), Gibson (??) for central midfield. Pretty thin considering SAF loves to rotate in this position.

Ashley Young would be a decent signing I think. It only takes on injury to Nani or Valencia and suddenly we are looking short in the wide areas. Obviously we have Park but SAF likes to save him for the European and Cup matches (and big league matches). With Giggs getting another year on him, he will stick almost solely to central midfield next year. So another wide option would be good - remember this is a squad that has to play 50 or 60 matches a year.

We definitely need something in the middle of the park - especially if Scholes does retire. Carrick has been good recently, we have Fletcher, Giggs and Anderson (plus possibly Pogba coming through), but I do think a defensive midfielder is probably required (Rodwell?), and possbiy an attacking option. Rooney has been doing a lot of dropping off in recent games with Hernandez ahead of him and playing in the advanced playmaker role, and has been effective.

The other thing is Tom Cleverley will be back next year, so expect him to play games as an attacking midfielder.

As for the forwards, I'm not convinced we need a top line striker to come in. Rooney and Hernandez are the top dogs at the moment, plus we have Berbatov of course. Welbeck has been quality this year for Sunderland so I would like him to play matches, unless he goes back there as part of the deal to bring Henderson to United (another possible midfield option). As for Diouf and Macheda, well I'm not sure about either of them.

The goalkeeper is an interesting one - it really could be any of a number of options (it won't be Neuer). The two favourites are Steklenberg and De Gea - comments out of De Gea suggest he hasn't decided what he is doing next year. I really have no idea at this stage as to who it might be.

Hargreaves, Brown, and Owen all likely to leave I would think.
