I think even those low-ego workhouses had a fantastic core skill set that we are only now coming to appreciate. It was not acceptable to be John O'Shea the workhorse to go and misplace a pass once he's finally won it back.

Yeah, I think that’s the kind of thing I meant with mental toughness and consistency.
But I guess it’s also about leadership and ego in the squad. Who dictates standards in the team, who is thinking about next window etc.
I mean O’Shea is rarely guna be hounded by tabloids over rumors of transfers!
Edit: Also early season, still in striking distance, a few reasonable results, have a half decent window, some players have a burst of form and who knows?
