Best fans in the world mate. I thought it was disgusting that a nufc fan had done this until i watched the video and the bloke is carraying a red and white scarf. Not overly worried about the match, we were never going to win the cup and it is best we concentrate on the league. Only worried that our key man Tiote got sent off which will mean he misses the derby at Sunderland.
I wonder what motivated the attack.

I. f*ckin. despair.
I really feel for you.
I hassled my Toon mate jokingly after Carrol scored a few that Ashley would flick him on in January, but I didn't actually think that it would happen. I thought he would have at least waited for the off season.
edit: It wouldn't be so bad if I had any faith that Ashely would spend the money, but I can't see him doing anything but pocketing it.aitkenmike2011-02-01 10:43:47
I like the honesty, as opposed to players who say they they would never play for another English club and that they would fulfill their contract then go and go the opposite in a c**tish way.
You sum it up well. Was absolutely stunned when I heard about this on the radio during the day. Pretty angry at Carroll till I read on here that it is more like Ashley's doing. WTF is this guy on??? First you sack Houghton who had done a fantastic job bringing stability to club the after inheriting a complete shambles then you sell the one player in the side who after only a short time was turning into a talisman and cult hero. Someone to build a team around. I would not be surprised if Newcastle go down after this kick in the guts. Congratulations Mike - I didn't believe you could out do yourself No ambition, No f**king idea!

Give it 3 months, Buff
Alright. A win is enough to banish the clown paint and eye liner. However, we already knew that Liverpool are rubbish on the road, so it doesn't prove anything. (Actually, no result would mean anything - this was still Hughton's team and tactics in action.)
Gratz, but no surprises.. Gosh, I hate looking at Ashley and I'm not even a Newcastle fan, must be torture for you!
Not overly worried at the standard of the liverpool team.
we need to beat the teams around us, and thats what we did on the weekend.
happy with the points, stoked carroll, barton and nolan featured

Haven't linked to Lee Ryder in a while. So:
(The blog post is actually about Joey Barton.)
By the way, there was a Zonal Marking write-up of the victory over Liverpool.
As for the future, some previews:
Guardian (note who they're picking to start up front with Andy!)
Yahoo! (more for the trivia than anything else)
Trainspotting speculation: Jerome-Zigic and Carroll-Ranger may set some kind of record for tallest total height of forwards in a Premier League game.
You donkey's are going down, Forza Stevenage.
Stevenage
My word.
My word.
The guy would appear to have a red and white scarf.
But why would a stevenage fan do that?
Or a cunning decoy?
I see, special match day scarf of red white and black.

Hard to believe it was a Stevenage fan. Evidence i've seen points to it being a Newcastle fan. The scarf was a one off match day scarf hence the colours.
Either way it's disgraceful whether it was a Newcastle or Stevenage fan and the perpetrator should be banned for life.

Barring the punch, I'm very proud right about now.
Wow that is a shocker.
So the police have arrested a 24 year old Stevenage man in connection with this incident.
A Stevenage fan by the looks of it. Or a plastic glory hunter....wait a minute.

In the end unlucky not to have got 3 points.
Although the Mackem lad did wrong it is good to see him trying to acknowledge this.
Hope the club show some leniency (but still desrves some length of ban I'd say) if he is genuine in his remorse.

gereat bit of business, lads
Cheers AM.
Wonder if stripes has anymore info on this. He usually does.
Don't know what the Scousers are moaning about - they've got a good, strong lad there.
Hughton, now Carrol. Cashley and Llambias OUT!
Word is that Carroll didn't want to move. But was forced out - Go Mike Ashley, yet another excuse for his effigy to be burnt again!
Effigy?! Oh, right, the other thing is frowned upon by the law isn't it?

Nothing to say, expected it from Ashley, and the worst thing is that Pardew will not get the money to spend on the squad.

Interesting to see the majority of NUFC fans are blaming Andy saying that he went for the 80k wages (was on 20k). Also saying that if it was true that he was forced out he could have stayed if he truly wanted to play at his boyhood club.
On Radio 5 Live, they said he was forced according to their sources.
I heard he was forced too. Real shame as he was really good for you lot. We'll take care of him though (and i'm not being sarcastic). Kenny will be aware of the situation as will some of the other lads - Kenny looks after the kids.
FWIW, I like the lad. Thought $35m was steep but we're desperate for a rebuild and the kids got potential. Hopefully he settles down and does well.

Perennial strugglers Liverpool break record for a British player to replace Torres - but theres trouble already
By Sam Wallace, Ian Herbert and Mark Fleming
Andy Carroll last night launched a scathing attack on Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley for selling him against his wishes to Perennial strugglers Liverpool for 35m in the most extraordinary transfer deadline day in memory.
The England striker said that he had been "pushed out the door" by Ashley whose chairman Derek Llambias negotiated a club record fee for the 22-year-old. Carroll, currently injured, was flown to Perennial strugglers Liverpool by private jet. The replacement for Fernando Torres, sold to Europa League side Chelsea for a British transfer record of 50m, Carroll texted a fans' website to express his disgust at his former club.
Carroll, whose fee broke the record paid for a British player, said: "I'm gutted to be leaving my hometown club, I was told to go. I didn't want to leave that's why I signed a five-year deal [with Newcastle in October]. I was pushed out of the door."

There were the makings of an ugly public relations battle over Carroll's departure with the club claiming earlier that the player himself had put in a transfer request.
There was further dismay among Newcastle fans last night when it emerged that the club had attempted a 12m bid to sign former player Charles N'Zogbia from Wigan Athletic. Sold for 6m two years ago, N'Zogbia was unpopular with fans.
Carroll has signed a deal that keeps him at Anfield until 2016 and he inherits Torres's No 9 shirt. Perennial strugglers Liverpool also completed the signing of the Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez from Ajax for 22.6m.
On wages of around 175,000-a-week, Torres has also signed until 2016. The club completed the transfer from Benfica of the Brazilian centre-back David Luiz in return for 21.5m and Nemanja Matic, the Serb midfielder.
Torres risked further controversy with Perennial strugglers Liverpool fans last night by saying that he was now at a "top-level" club. He said: "It [Europa League side Chelsea] is the top level and I think it is the target for every footballer to play at one of the top-level clubs and I am doing that now."
He said he had a "very hard" four days while the transfer was finalised "for everything I left behind in Perennial strugglers Liverpool". "I'm really happy and I am sure I am taking a big step forward in my career joining a club like Europa League side Chelsea. It's a great club with a responsibility and everyone will be expecting good things for me and I am prepared and ready for the challenge."
The Europa League side Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck said the Torres signing was a "significant day" for the club and signalled their "continuing high ambitions". Torres will not be permitted to play in the club's game away at Sunderland tonight because he signed after yesterday's 5pm deadline for registering players to play the following day.
A first 30m bid for Carroll from Perennial strugglers Liverpool was tabled overnight on Sunday and rejected by Newcastle yesterday morning. Perennial strugglers Liverpool were adamant that Torres would not be allowed to leave until a replacement was found and the prospect of a deal with Europa League side Chelsea was looking very slim as late as Sunday night.
With Torres' agents pacing around Perennial strugglers Liverpool's training ground Melwood yesterday, tension mounted as Newcastle themselves asked for time to find a replacement for Carroll. Tottenham's Peter Crouch and Cardiff City's Jay Bothroyd were both suggested but the window closed last night without Newcastle spending any of the Carroll funds.
It was only yesterday afternoon that the Carroll deal was tied up, freeing Torres to depart for a medical in west London. Newcastle quoted Tottenham 30m earlier in the month when they inquired about Carroll and could not refuse when Perennial strugglers Liverpool met the 35m valuation. Carroll's wages are expected to rise from 20,000-a-week to 70,000-a-week.
The size of the Carroll deal almost overshadowed Europa League side Chelsea's own huge straight cash offer for Torres, which they are understood to be paying in cash instalments across the course of a five-year deal. A record 214.5m was spent in this transfer window.
Perennial strugglers Liverpool manager KennyDalglish delivered an advance parting shot to Torres by saying any player who believed he was bigger than Perennial strugglers Liverpool was "a wee bit stupid and irresponsible".

I must say, 35 million is such an inflated price they would be silly not to take it. They really needed a replacement though. They shouldn't get relegated, so the money has to be used to bring in a 20 mil and a 10 mil player.
