I have very fond memories of the 4-4 draw in the backbencher with all that g(o)oner presence HarryHotspur2009-08-04 11:58:01

Isn't it strange how for us a draw is a disappointment and for you its an achievement?

It's all relative.  Your gaffer didn't have a tw@t buying and selling players under his nose prior to the start of the season, plus he's still the same one for quite a few seasons.

That's cos you snatched a draw from the jaws of victory if I remember. Anyway, tell us more about the 5-1.

Ouch, our fragile defence becomes exposed, presumably as Ledley is still on a once in 2 weeks regime. We'll just have to score loads (or put Crouch at CB!)

Ok so who's the white queen knocking over our Ledley?

Better not answer that - let's keep this thread above board and kosher.

The thing about gooner-baiting is that you're always guaranteed a bite.  It's just too easy.  It's just a shame they have to come over to this thread, although maybe they are that rare breed of gooner (ones that know class when they see it).  oops sorry gooner and class are mutually exclusive terms.

It's not the same with them having their own area. They should be back in here with the rest of us. How can we take the piss when you have to go looking??

The funniest thing is that sometimes i read this thread, and think to myself "i cant believe the other gooners are on here giving them stick, thats a bit sad considering its their thread" and then next thing you know im on here... its like my typing hands are possessed, i just cant help myself...

I'm sure thatthe Aarsenal lot spend more time on this thread han their own.

Mind you, it's historically consistent. Woolwich never could stay put, they always had to move in on spurs territory...

Bent's gone to the Mackems.

Maybe some coin to get that Huntelaar chap... or a central defender or two.

I think Huntelaar would be a great buy, but where does Robbie fit in, he is the skipper but maybe we'd accept a decent bid for him?

Crouch and Defoe might be the natural pairing.  Crouch and Keano??

Would like 'Arry to keep him on - if he gets his mojo back we'd be going places (upwards that is).

I think it will be Crouch and Keane to start with...

Teamtalk just reported Bassong from Newcastle has undergone a medical. Thank god if that's the case, he's a good player and a necessary addition to our depleted central defence stakes...

Timely addition a stop gap or contender for a starting spot if usual CBS are fit?

Would it be outrageous to have Keano, Defoe and Crouch on all at the same time? Perhaps not against Liverpool, but weaker teams?

You wot?

4-3-3 is it then!!!

Hang about - that could be quite appealing... oooh I feel a bit woozy. (Midfield: Palacios, Modric, Lennon?)

I was actually thinking Keano in advanced midfield role (I think his greatest strength is linking play rather than scoring). Yeah, I would go Palacios, Modric and Lennon.

Hmmm...in retrospect, Modric does what I'm saying Keano could do (although Keano would chip in with more goals) so may be it is daft idea and the strikers are just going to have to tear stris out of each other in training to get a starting position.

well as Defoe (26), Keano (29) and Crouch (28) are all not youngsters either (but still a few years to go), I doubt a stating line up with all three would be sustainable over the season.

Anyone going to the Lane this weekend for final friendly game against Olympiakos?

I was going to go, but chnaged my mind. It'd be interesting to see who plays, now that Crouch has arrived, and will surely be given a run.  ..

Bassong confirmed, but wait for it....

He's banned for the first 2 games of the season as he was sent off in Newcastle's last game.

Bloody hell Harry don;t we need someone early doors, we have Liverpool first up, that Torres fella is useful...

Ahem! Well, yes, politically incorrect of me to say this but if Spurs don't perform on the field this season then at least we could say they have an excuse.

Defoe supersubs it for Eng-er-land. Hard not to see him start at the weekend. I'm still fancying JD, Keano (who missed a sitter when 0-0 against Aussies) and Crouch from the start.HarryHotspur2009-08-13 14:06:38

Watching Defoe last night, (and having kept an eye on him at Portsmouth) I get the feeling he's not really suited to playing next to a tall target man. Defoe was brilliant against Holland, but when Carlton Cole came on, Defoe was never present to pick up the balls that Cole won in the air. Same used to happen at Portsmouth with Crouch.

Defoe suits a ball-to-feet, insicive through-ball type of game. Not a 'picking up scraps from the tall partner' game. I'm worried that Redknapp has fallen into the trap of thinking that a short striker NEEDS to play off a tall one.

I'd play Defoe and Keane up front. Forget the big target guys. Defoe and Keane worked fine previously, why not restore that aprtnership?
