Couldn't see anything on it? Lionel Messi as the worthy winner in 2009, by a record margin over second place Crisitano Ronaldo. He is followed by Xavi, Iniesta and Eto'o to complete the Top Five. Gerrard 10th, Torres 11th and Fabreags 12th were other ones I can remember.

Barcelona obviously and rightfully cleaning out the awards due to their fantastic season last season (Mind you, they were lucky we held Madrid after our epic 4-3 victory in the Calderon...)

Congratulations to Messi- the best player in the world!!

How about, "Referring to Messi as 'Europe's player of the year' is a serious understatement"?

Bump. Did anyone see how Chris Wood voted? Lewandowski first, Pogba second, de Bruyne third. Not a fan of La Liga then Chris?

I just don't get the hype around Pogba. I haven't seen a lot of him, a few CL games for Juve, a few internationals for France, but from what I have seen he just looks like a technically impressive midfielder who fades in and out of games but never really stands out as one of the best players on the pitch. Maybe I have just happened to have seen his worst performances or something. I saw he made the FIFA team of the year and I thought, was he really one of the best 3 midfielders on the planet in 2015?

He's on Toure's level, IMO.

That's a fair comment.

He is still young, so he does have potential to be up there with the very best in the world in a few years but I just don't think he's there yet.

Who would you have ahead of him?

As a midfielder? Iniesta, Busquets, Alonso, Rakitic, Modric, Vidal, Ozil, just off the top of my head.

Pogba would be about level with Verratti or Thiago for me - those guys could be seriously awesome in a few years but still not quite there yet.

As I said though, I admit that I haven't seen much of Pogba so if people who've seen him play heaps disagree I respect that. I just haven't seen the evidence that he's a World XI type-player already myself

I have seen more people question Modric's selection than Pogba's. Juve were happy to let Vidal go says a bit.

I don't think Juve selling Vidal necessarily means that they didn't rate him. There could be other reason, like he wanted to return to Germany, or to play under Pep. Top clubs sell top players, it doesn't mean it is good business. Real Madrid sold Wesley Sneijder to Inter for only €15m and a season later he was the key attacking player in both a treble winning club team, and the Dutch squad which made the WC final. He came 4th in the 2010 Ballon d'or and was UEFA midfielder of the year, but he clearly wasn't good because why else would RM have sold him?

...

Now I've said all this though Pogba is probably going to single-handedly drag Juve to another Serie A  and Champions League double!

Just realised I was using awards to argue that a player was good in a thread where I'm arguing that I don't agree with an award. Derp.
