Poor article.

* Rosarno deserved a mention, as this is small coin from exactly the same account.  However, the promotion of racist attitudes is in play around the globe.  (In fact, the SMH has put its shoulder to this wheel from time to time.)

* Whatever FIFA's official policy, talk about curbing the right of professional footballers to ply their trade where they like is rife.  But this context is passed over in favour of speculation on Balotelli's psychology and some rather trite quotes from his sister.

from what I know about this situation, the general hatred and abuse of Balotelli is nothing to do with race, and everything to do with him.  At the recent game against Juventus, the Juve fans held up a massive banner to him that said something along the lines of "Don't kid yourself, we would hate you the same if you were white".

I haven't read the article here (too cool to deal with facts) but if this incident is related to rascist abuse that is bad.  If it is about general abuse of a player and it is only made an issue of because he is black, then that is a non event.
