The new season kicks off tomorrow morning. The games on ESPN are Real Madrid v. Werder Bremen and Porto v. Liverpool.

Discussion of games/matchdays, players, playing format all welcome

Chelski had less than 25k turn up to the bridge for their match against Rosenberg (which they drew 1-1).

Milan started their defense well against Benfica. Pirlo and Inzagi scoring nice goals. Inter looked awful in their game vs fena. Arsenal and Roma both had good wins while Liverpool continue with there anit-football. I have no idea how Chelsea lost to Rosenborg

True supporters they are. Hell, I'd come to watch the Phoenix even if they were playing Chelsea...

Firstly Inter lost to Fener. Liverpool played poorly in attack against Porto, but I don't know why people like to have a dig for playing poorly (as in not attractive football) Liverpool play very good football. Inter play a less than impressive game anyway.

As for Chelsea they drew.

If you think Liverpool play impressive football you are deluding yourself. Secondly, Inter did lose and were awful but they do tend to play impressive football most of the time. Having to play Dacourt next to Cambiasso in the midfield due to Viera being out and Zanetti having to play in the defense made inter have no force coming forward. Also,  having basically every defender in the squad out due to last years suspensions from the Valencia game and injuries didnt help either. And yes, I do realize Chelsea drew. Just an oversight on my part. Drawing at home to Rosenborg is still quite shocking though.

I never said Liverpool play impressive football, and by impressive I'm assuming you mean attractive. Anyway Liverpool can mix it with any team hold possession and score good goals as well as play one touch football too, Very Good was what I used.

Having said that on current form they have been poor (3 consecutive draws with Pompey, Porto and now Brum) and I am so fustrated by the lack of flair and cutting edge, and the constant benching of Torres.

Sorry to come of sounding defensive but Liverpool play football and do a good job, many people think that if you don't pass quick, attack a lot, shoot heaps and beat players then you should be trying to do so. Football is played at both sides so your term anti football seemed a bit far fetched

Rangers 0-0
Arsenal 7-0!
Man Utd - 4-2

Lots of goals in two of the games. But 7-0. Arsenal are on fire.

Saw Rangers v. Barca tonight. God I hate Tommy farken Smyth, the guy knows next to nothing about football.

Have to agree about Tommy Smith with the y-fronts. Was hoping ESPN would give him a gold watch a few years ago and give us all some peace and informed comment.

Be good if the Champions League and Euro football was on another channel, where the picture is clearer too. I really hate those big pop-ups that come onto the screen and block out half the picture.

Share your sentiments, but can't see things changing any time soon. Conicidentally, I'm hoping they show some UEFA Cup coverage like they did last year, you probably wouldn't mind that either judging by your avatar.

Great comedy value for their first goal too, I've been chuckling since I saw it on the news.

Ha, just watching the Werder Bremen v. Real Madrid game. ESPN commentary got mixed up with the German feed, so you could hear both the ESPN muppets and the German commentator.
The German guy is obviously much better, immediately identified Vranjes as a fringe member of the Croatian national team.

I can't help but feel that the Liverpool scenario is remarkably similar to England's Euro 2008 qualification attempt:

They look down and out.
They get a sniff of hope back.
Their fate is in their hands.
They fail miserably.

Well, I hope so anyway.

Celtic has just gone down 1-0 to AC Milan, but still go through to the second round on account of Benfica beating Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1.
