so the dutch have lost babel, robben and seedorf.   van persie hasnt played for months and now their most promising player might be out?

if they manage to beat italy with all of those players out then thatd be a very good effort.

Too bad i don't have a dutch shirt for tomorrow's game. I do however have an orange Inter shirt. Could be a tad confusing though.

As stated many times before PROAK, only like the keeper not the team.

Great result for the Oranje this morn. Really good game to watch as well, unlike pretty much all games gone before in this tournament so far.

only saw bits of it but it seemed that the Italians were mounting some serious pressure before Holland's third killed it off with ten to go,

Only if you're a neutral or a Dutch fan. That would've been hell frustrating for an Italian fan. Expect changes for Italy Defence looks real poor but not many other options. I think De Rossi should come in, in place of Gattuso and Grosso to start instead of Panucci.

Good to see Kuyt play well, two assists. Great knock down and accurate cross.

Yeah Kuyt filled in well for the injured Robben. Great work. The young kid Afellay looked sharp when he came on too.

To be honest I actually think that Kuyt's huge work rate suited our game plan more than Robben would have.

Romania came for a 0-0 draw and that's what they got, but France looked toothless in front of goal.

But how good was it to see Italy get owned?! France to knock Italy out in the final group match.

Well done the dutch this morning - other than the linesmans dog obviously not seeing Ruud 2 metres offside they gave a lesson on how to play on the break. The second goal when Van Bronckhorst cleared a header off the line and the dutch went length of the field to score was a killer. Pirlo didn't have a great game - his passing was off - and Camaronesi was appalling - also didn't think DiNatale got involved enough - well at least we'll play more attacking football against Romania - we need the goals!

He techincally wasn't offside. An Italian player had removed himself from the play of field without the permission of the referee, so therefore was deemed to still be involved in play and keeping Ruud onside. Poor explanation i know but that's the jist of it.

I hope De Rossi plays. The bugger is in my fantasy team. Do you reckon he'll get a start? The Milan midfield were terrible v us.

He should do - I was at Gina's Italian restuarant on Symonds St Auckland watching the game this morning and the general consesus was Cassano in for Camoranesi and Di Rossi for Gattuso

well the france- romania game was sinfully boring.

there was far too much simulation, and the referee blew his whistle way too much so the game never really got going.

Good to see Greece go down too.

Turkey vs Switzerland sounds like an OK game (it would be better if Ilhan Mansiz still played for Turkey), and I think the Czech Republic vs Portugal could be a very good game.  I would get up for it but Sky isn't getting installed until friday

Lets hope Turkey and Czech Republic come away with wins.

Watched Russia and Spain this morning, and was interested to see how Russia would shape up with Hiddinck in charge. So disappointing! I've got used to seeing Hiddinck teams (South Korea, Australia) run themselves into the ground, but Russia seem to crucially lack moral fibre when it's needed.

True, Spain looked very dangerous going forward but the Russian defence was a disgrace. It's a shame to see players of that standard losing concentration like schoolboys. I'm trying to work out if this is basically Hiddinck's fault or the result of a lax mentality in the Russian game. After all they seem to have been underachieving for a long time now.

Good one Buffon. I tripled-checked my timer before I went to bed!

Well, the timer worked, but obviously my brain didn't the night before!!! Forgot to put it on the correct channel and ended up taping nickelodeon of all things!! Missed another two good games.

I understand that if Turkey and Czech Republic draw in their final group match it will go to penalties, which would be quite outstanding to watch.

Don't think i'll bother with either game tomorrow i have an exam at 9 anyway. But Sat morn is gonna be a blockbuster morning. Cannae wait.

UEFA introduced the rule for 2004, though it wasn't needed then. If two teams meeting in one of the last group matches have the same number of points, the same goal difference and the same number of goals, and if this match stands at a draw at the end of normal time with a Quarter Final spot to be determined, the ranking of these two teams will be determined by penalty kicks. This will not apply if there is a three or four way tie.

I can only think of one instance off the top of my head where the rule would have been useful - the 1990 world cup (not that FIFA have followed UEFA on this one). Ireland and Netherlands had to toss a coin to determine second and third in the group. Fortunately for the loser of the toss (Netherlands I think), they went through as one of the best third placed teams (an anomaly of the 24 team format).
