golden boot? Player of the tourney?

My money is on Mario Gomez (Deustschland) to be top scorer. Genuis in front of goal, pacey and skillful. has already scored 6 goals in 9 caps. Saw him play for Stuttgart a couple of months back. . .  got high hopes for this player. (stats from here http://www.dfb.de/index.php?id=137
As for player fo the tourney.  Prob will end up being Ronaldo if the English Press have their way. Although, Ronaldo's success will be determined by Portugal's success, not sure they're a strong enough contender. So I'm going to go out on a limb (and against my Spurs loyalties) and say Fabregas.

The German front line will be very strong when you add Klose and Podolski (assuming both are fit and on form - I'm not following German football closely enough lately to know).

How's my driving? - Whine here

I've provided a link in my first post tot he German National Team Website. Note that the statistics on the UEFA site are outdated, at least for the German Natinal Team players.

Toni - I thought this at the last world cup. Didn't happen so I've given up on the guy now.
Modric - I hope so too (being a THFC man), but don't enough about him to have any great confidence  . .  yet.

Toni's been astounding for Bayern. Don't really like him as a player, but he gets the job done.

Do you reckon that Gomez will be a starter for the Krauts?
I thought they may go for a Klose/Kuranyi or Klose/Podolski (although Podolski's been crap for Bayern)combo, with Gomez as the impact player off the bench.el grapadura2008-05-08 21:50:42

I actually thnik they'll go with Gomez/ Podolski and have Klose on the bench. Controversial ..  but I think the more effective partnership. Either that or maybe break with tradition and try a 4-3-3. . . but I think that's being a bit outrageous.

I can't see them going with 4-3-3. Their defence is suspect at the best of times, let alone with all the question marks over Metzelder, for them not to have a 4-man midfield.

goleden boot will go to one of the dutch players, van p if he can get/stay fit for the all goals. dont think you can go past van nistelroy either.

if they go through the group of death then they will go close to winning it. also like the look of torres as they have an eaisier group aswell

If van Basten would just let Kluivert play some games he could tear the competition up like he did in 2000 (and before everyone says he's too old I'd just like to say he isn't too old).

I'm hoping to see good performances from Schweinsteiger, Fabregas, and van Persie.

El Grap, I hope Croatia go ok bro but I think it will be mighty tough without Eduardo.
Modric Kranjcar and Petric will need to step up so they can progress.

Well, Modric and Kranjcar have stepped up - Modric is already our best player and Kranjcar has been very good over the last 12-18 months. Srna is very good too, and with another excellent young player on the bench in Rakitic there's plenty of quality in the midfield.

But you're right, not having Eduardo as the main finisher will be a problem, so Petric, Klasnic, Olic and Budan (whichever combination plays) will have to become more clinical.

And the defence is a bit oldish and slowish (but experienced) and it could struggle against quicker sides.

Still cautiosly optimistic though.

We could definitely use Vidic. And Ivanovic too. Our defence is a bit suspect but I'm hoping we don't get too shown up.
I was a bit surprised that Srbija didn't qualify, especially given how well their U-21 teams have been going lately. But I guess there's always the World Cup...
Enjoy the tournament too mate.
