Brazil got plenty of "help" last world cup, wouldn't be surprised if VAR is Russia's MVP.

Russia v Saudi Arabia really is an awful opening game for so many reasons. Is Salah going to be fit?

This game is a good example of why the FIFA rankings are meaningless.

No competitive games for Russia lately doesn't help.

The worst 5-0 I've witnessed

Wouldn't mind that Russian striker playing for the Nix though. A couple of great finishes.

Fair play to the Russians, they did well and proved me wrong. Couple of very nice goals at the end.

There is no doubt that for the opening game, in their home country, the Russians got a lift but Saudi were very poor. I can see them getting steam rolled again by Uruguay.

And this is the team that qualified ahead of Australia.

Scoring goals has been a problem for Russia in previous tournaments, so that was a great start for them.

Typically, the English media have been bagging Russia in the build-up to this, with the Independent printing yesterday: "expect Russia to impress no-one, entertain no-one and quite possibly beat no-one". Oops.

So much for that.

All those precious scousers who have a sudden interest in Egypt should thank that coach. Ramos may be a prick but he's an angel compared to Godin who would kill his own kids to save a goal

Trust me, you're missing nothing. Suarez not even trying, Ururgay a bunch of thugs as usual and Egypt happy to go home now with 0-0. These teams are a disgrace to football

Ha, got one sorted. Just saw the Egyptian bicycle kick attempt stay down, but miraculously recover when ref wandered over.

Uruguay a bit disappointing in first half, though Suarez should've scored. Egypt pretty useful even without Salah.

What is up with the numbers and letters on the shirts? The 2 on Uruguay.

Uruguay played poorly - but got the W in the end. Salah required in next game

Bugger, that was a shame for Egypt after a good effort. Stupid foul to give away that led to the goal.

Godin is pure class.

I thought Suarez was going to lose his shark at one point. Hopefully in the next match

I'm loving the Egyption dude who has decided to 1. Choose David Trezeguet as his idol, 2. name himself after him and 3. Mis-spell his name

Well, for starters, it should be "shark", not "shark".
