I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

Am definitely picking Colombia to win group, not sure about second place, but am hoping Japan or Senegal take down Poland.

Ditto. Though I'm picking Poland to finish top of the group.

Poland and Colombia for me

Grumpy old bastard alert

One of the key Polish defenders (Glik if I recall) picked up an injury and won't go to Russia.

This is a blow to the Poles as his replacement is not that great.  I expect Japan will give Poland a good run for their money and may take the second spot.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

This is probably the worst Japanese side to make the World Cup, and they weren't great in 2014 either. If the Poles fluff it, Senegal are probably much better placed to profit rather than Japan.

Japan only finished the final qualifying group 1 point ahead of Saudi Arabia & Australia.

Senegal vs Poland a big match first up.

It really makes me wonder if this is the worst Australian team that ever qualified.

Glik is brilliant and they'd be screwed without him. I read he's only out for 2-3 games and i in the squad.

They will have Milik back. Him and Lewandowski are a good combo

Sensational result for Japan!

First half Colombia looked like scoring every time they attacked . Japan controlled the second half well.

Poland were one of the worst teams I've seen.

When it comes to that second goal, definitely.

But Argentina probably close to taking second spot in awfulness stakes.

Japan should put Poland to the sword next up. There was not much between them and Senegal and the draw justifies that.

The amount of booing of Lewandowski by Polish fans was a good measure of what they thought of his workrate.

I didn't have an opinion on Lewandowski's workrate, maybe rubbish, not sure, but it was clear to me in both matches they had no plan or ability of getting him into the match. While Colombia were just far better than them, in the first match if Poland turned up with some sort of decent team plan they could've got some sort of result against Senegal. The last person I'd blame for them is him, even if he is the easy target being the 'star player'.

Colombia played some good football but their writhing around on the pitch every time someone brushed past them was hard to watch: so embarrassing to see grown men flopping about the beached flounders.

I watched some of the all blacks v france the other night, guys getting smashed down and getting straight back up. How has all the play acting in football been allowed to carry on?

its really not a good look; hasn't been for years...

Rugby allows far more contact by definition, in football it is more limited and incidental (you have to go for the ball) - and some players / teams like to milk that more than others.

As a result, I am truly impressed with how clean (by their standards) Uruguayans are playing this time. No red card, no goals against, no Suarez biting, in other words they look just not themselves. Maybe an easy group, but still - good on them.
