I downloaded with a bit of interest, but it was actually worse than I thought it would be.

Good points:
* The animations/graphics of the match engine leave FM09 trailing in its wake. Too bad the AI is sooooo awful. Seriously, playing as Arsenal against Chelsea and you'd think you were watching "Blind XI" vs "Drunk XI". Own goals, unmarked passes out of play, pinball, simply awful.

* The idea behind some aspects, such as set piece creator, scouting, training, etc.

* Speed - games seems to run fast and without too many hold ups on my average spec computer.

Bad points:

* Navigation is horrendous. You will often click into a screen, but have no way to "go back". It makes FM's navigation seem genius (and that is finally getting a needed upgrade with FM10).

* One of the most talked about features - the set-piece creator - is a fantastic idea in theory, and seems implemented well - until you, once again, see how awful the match engine AI is.

Check out this youtube video, where the creator has easily managed to draw all defenders away hysterically paving the way for his goalkeeper to score on each occasion:

P.S., that video came out within hours of the demo's release.

Bring on FM10 is all I can say.

"Blind IX v Drunk IX" for Arsenal V Chelsea? Sounds realistic to me, Wenger never sees anything and Chelsea have Ashley Cole.

Ah, I did get it then, guess I've lost my sense of humour. I'm well aware of the fact you're a FM researcher Hard News.

I just wish that in general people didn't have this bone-headed need to rip to shreds CM just because they love FM. FM is the love of my life (don't tell my fiance...) and has been since CM93/94, but FM really needs all the competition it can get to try and raise their own bar.

With the announcement about upcoming FM, I'll admit to being a little disappointed about lack of new "WOW!" features ... but I think I'll be happy with a nicely fine-tuned game, better interface, improved match engine, etc. And of course league editor is massively exciting.

Even after the update the 2 New clubs are there, but not in the league, similar to the way they are in FM09. Not Good enough.

Also, a quick look around the a-league shows little to no research has been done. Numerous players missing.Gangsta!2009-09-29 16:57:38

Ahem...

I can tell you right now that FM2010's latest test release has everyone at the phoenix who should be at the Phoenix... positional filters are a little patchy and values are a bit dodgy but the names are all there.

Just working on my 1-2-3-4 formation right now.

Not attacking enough. Doesn't get enough players forward.

I would say it should be a 0-0-10Gangsta!2009-09-29 17:38:54

Unbeaten in Pre-Season, two draws 4 wins.  About to open a world of hurt on Newcastle.

More shots on goal, more possession and we lose to a typical sh*t Matthew Breeze penalty...

Just to keep hijacking this thread,

have you tried the new competition creator?

Is it effective?

No, haven't looked at it.  All I'm doing at the moment is scouring the A-League for issues.

Tried full version of CM 10 last night and it's acutally (sorry News) pretty good. However it has some MAJOR FLAWS. NQF and GCU are both missing from the A League, and you are not at any stage able to take over the reigns of the land of the long white cloud. I haven't investigated fully as I quit the game after finding this out but, if there's no GCU or NQF then there is no Smeltz or Brockie. Other than that the looks and feels good. I'll be removing it though and throwing the disc away.

There in there under Townsville and Gold Coast. Still, doesn't feel right without all 10 teams.

So they're there but not in A League? Will have another look.

Edit - Had another look, in october update Townsville is now North Queensland, but neither side is part of the A League. On the plus side, I've signed both Fowler and Smeltz for under 180,000 pounds

Ok, This might seem dumb to some but

Championship Manager from Eidos is out now and Football Manager from Sega (SIGames) very shortly. what are the funamental differences. I remember when there was just the one and the Japanese bought it then it turned to crap and the original creators left.

So what are the fundamental differences please and although loyal fans will have their favourite, which game really is better?

HN, you were off line so I posted this message here rather than PM you.

My experience playing Championship Manager is that it is the worst of the Fifa Man/CM/FM three. No depth outside England and the gameplay isn't all that fun.
