Is anyone into some of the retro managers?  USM2, Player Manager, and even the legendary The Manager?

I downloaded both USM2 and Player Manager a couple of weeks ago.

I played Player Manger first, but got frustrated by the lack of control during matches.  And then I got fired...lol.

So I've been playing USM2 for a week and a half.  I've taken over Colchester United who were in Division 3 back in 96/97, before the Championship existed.  (Modern day's Division 2.)

In my first season, I got them to the promotion playoffs but missed out on going up.  This season I'm in 3rd place about halfway through the season, and I've got to the quarter finals of theLeague Cup and the 3rd round of the FA Cup.  Last night I beat Bristol Rovers 10-9 on penalties...

I'd forgotten how addictive these games could be!

played and still play The Manager for days on end.
Used to play PC Calcio 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 and 2000 but they got worse and worse.
Unfortunately I never played FM until 2009 which means I never really got to understand the game, and now I can't really learn from scratch - yeah, it's too hard.
:(

Miss a good football manager game.

I did buy a FIFA Manager a few years ago.  I can't remember which one it was, but it was very good.  I recall being able to buy personal assets and have children, etc.  It had a good balance where you had to decide between family and football - too many family things, and the team suffers, and vice versa.

The only problem is that I discovered that my wife is content to be bought off, so I ended up always going with the football as my priority, then buying my wife a gift to placate her, haha!

I used to own FIFA Manager 05, although it was actually called something else I think, can't remember what it was though. Being able to create your own club and start in a local second division was (and probably still is) the best idea for a football manager game.

I remember that feature, although I'm not entirely sure if I had the same game.

My team was still pants, but it was great to be able to call it my own.

I'm not a big fan of the retro managers, but my boyfriend is! He recently downloaded Player Manager and hasn't stopped. I recently got into MLB Manager Online, which although baseball, is quite a good take on the ol' management/simulation game thing.  jennifer252011-04-04 19:47:55

06 they started that I think. I had Total Club Manager 05 which gave birth to the FIFA Manager series. Being able to found your own club and build it from the ground up was awesome.

Hold on a second you've just copied and pasted what someone else said and made me repeat myself timmymadden2011-08-06 00:00:06

If only I could remember what the football manager I played when I was a kid was called. I think it was by EA games...any ideas?

I used to play a game called Premier Manager in the early 90's.  You started in the English Conference and tried to work your way up.  It was made more difficult by a random event that every now and then affected one of your players - getting hit by lightening & dying!!
