Don't bother mate. It will... ruin your family / marriage / anything else.

Plus its sh*t, also I refuse to buy games that make me pay monthly. Plenty of games out there run their own servers and don't require the users to pay every month.

Don't head towards it, I know some people who play and lets just say they don't see a lot of sun.

If it gets to the point where you want to try it, there is a 14 day free trial i think, luckily for me when i tried this game i hated it.

I have played it on/off since beta, you need to sacrifice a lot of time to achieve end level stuff, but for a first time player there are 100's of hours of content to invest time into and exploring. i usually start playing around the release of each expansion- and stop once Ive cleared most of the new content, but I'm not into it anymore.
if you want to try it, id be willing to lend you my install disks (save a tone of bandwidth) and let you re-activate my account and use that for a while.
I have three level 80 characters (troll priest, orc death-knight, blood elf paladin) all on a oceanic pve timezone server.

My brother, his wife, my uncle used to play it regliously. I started playing it as it was the only time I could communicate with them.
Sucked me in though. It's very clever (well it was) at making you spend HOURS at a time achieving what is in hindsight, very little.

It does things very well in some aspects, but got too big for its own good in my opinion. It took me about a year to earn enough gear to have a semi decent chance in player vs player battles (I was on PvP server), but there is no way I could compete with people who spend 5,6,7 - sometimes 8 hours a day playing the game. Then once I finally got some gear, the rules changed and a new set of gear became available.

Lost all interest after that. A year wasted. Cancelled account and uninstalled. Started playing Battlefield 1942 again instead. Too many hardcore dicks and too many scammers on WoW. Plus I really don't like spending more than 2 hours a day playing video games.

Haven't played it for nearly 2 years now. Things might have changed.

Interesting. Think I might just stick to watching the South Park version.

On a side note though, the technical acheivement of the game is absolutely amazing. To be able to run a game of that size, using as few resources as it does, with no loading screens between zones, whilst giving the user the abillity to tailor the interface to how they like it - with a shear mass of people using those 40-odd servers (probably a few more by now) is trailblazing.

Basically, for the engine it runs on - it looks amazing.
