Is Juric good enough?

Permalink Permalink

should have had 3-4 yellows, if not a red here Korea

Permalink Permalink

think Juric's options have been poor

Permalink Permalink

Burns getting knocked off the ball way too easily.

Permalink Permalink

had a good run into the box from the right, then they moved Leckie there- nothing since down the right and Burns hasn't touched the ball since

Juric does some nice things. He's a decent finisher as well. I don't think he is good enough to play in a top league in Europe.

Permalink Permalink

eh, gets the ball, great run, is subbed, Juric static as in the middle can't get the tap home

Permalink Permalink

So unlucky. And then subbed off for Ratface.

That was a piece of Australian thuggery against the Korean peoples, Cahill.

There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth about that one. Oz paying the price for the kind of defensive lapse that has cost them so many games recently and will probably cost them the Cup.

Credit to Sth Korea who defended brilliantly.

So a bitter sweet result for me.  I spunked a wadge of cash on Oz, but good to see Korea top the table.

Had to follow it on twitter as we've no broadband, so amusing to see all the angst spew forth in cyberspace.

ehh, mixed bag from Burns. Showed enough, but they couldn't get the killer blow. He also got a yellow for an over-committed aerial challenge and then I think he was out of position to allow the run in behind for the goal. Will be wishing he'd had Krishna out there. So often he seemed to pull back or make a run, but didn't get the ball...

I'd have to see a replay but a player making a run deep into the penalty area is not the sort of situation you'd expect Burns to have to defend. My memory of it was that as a defender moved towards the ball carrier Franjic also got sucked in and left the runner to cruise through behind him.

I think he did reasonably well and created one of their best chances from nothing with a pretty brilliant run. I think Leckie and Kruse are a step above him in quality, but that isn't surprising. He didn't look out of place.

Thought Juric missed a pretty gilt-edged chance.

Juric managed to make Kruse look good in comparison.

Just sloppy defending cost Oz. Still think they are good enough to win this.

That team was far from their best starting 11 one would have thought, and if Juric wasn't having an average night they could have romped home. (Though to be fair South Korea had one of their top players suffering from illness)

May even help by taking a bit if pressure off.

Pretty disappointed by South Korea so far this tournament, despite their winning.

Great "upset" however.

I think China will rest some players and experiment with others against Nth Korea.  There was a prevailing preference to play Sth Korea on Thursday, but they will now have to step up big time against Oz.

Pretty sure that Oz should edge past Uzbekistan or Saudi Arabia and then meet Japan in the semis (Game on!).

Australia play China in quarter finals.

Soz, I mean Sth Korea should edge past Uzbek/Saudi

Winner of Oz-China likely to play Japan.  Can see Oz spanking China after their loss to Sth Korea, whereas I was hopeful of another upset if China faced Sth Korea.

Whether Ange keeps his job post-tournament now comes down to making the Final and performing well in it.

If Australia go out in the quarters against China, then you'd expect him to lose his job.

Probably will face Japan in the semi - so his job will hinge on the quality of that performance and if they make the Final.

Ange has a pretty average record so far results wise - though he's working with a squad that's not nearly as good as the Socceroos of 2000 to 2010 with Kewell, Viduka, Schwarzer etc.

Ange's Socceroos Record to Date:

http://int.soccerway.com/teams/australia/australia...

Played: 15  Won: 4    Drew: 2   Lost: 9

A lot of tough games among those - but he also lost a friendly to Qatar, drew with the UAE etc.

Of his four wins, one was a narrow 3-2 win over a very average Saudi side in London and two were against average Kuwait and Oman sides the last week in the Asian Cup.

The only decent side he beat was Costa Rica pre-World Cup (November 2013) but that was at home against a weakened Costa Rica side trialing players like Cunningham and Hernandez and missing most of their Euro stars like Bryan Ruiz (Australia had a full strength squad).

Would be sad for Ange if he got the chop, he's a good manager. China got a win against good Saudi team so they'll have a decent chance against Australia.

Ange will not lose his job regardless of where Oz finish.

No broadband so can't watch. Twitter going off after China scores in the first minute and Uzbek do so after 90 seconds.

f*cksticks.

Looks like China has reverted to its 4-2-3-1 formation.  No Wu Lei or Wu Xi

Thursday's match will be ballistic.

Super confident China, Oz with a point to prove.

Wish I did. They are down to $51 to win after that OG.

And Ben Williams earns the eternal gratitude of the people of Saudi Arabia with one of his very special penalty decisions. Well done Ben, you are the centre of attention yet again.
