Jordan 2-1 China. Was hoping for a draw but by all accounts the team played well for the most part but let itself down again with poor finishing.

Ominously Iraq seemed to boss S'pore and got a good away win 2-0. Iraq was always going to be tough so the pressure is on China to do well for the home games and nick a draw or two for the away games.

Watched Oz easily account for Saudi Arabaia 3-1. Two goals for Jesus, the 2nd courtesy of a horrible keeping blunder, and a very good effort in the heat. Saudi look a spent force these days.

Thailand 3-0 Oman.

Go Thailand, they definitely looked the part against Australia, if they could do a number on the Saudis, props to them. I watched some of Australia v the Saudis, Australia definitely made an improvement after the run against Thailand, I think they are comfortable finish the group stage. Would be Great to See Thailand get in as well.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

If the Thais can get 3 pts at home next up v Saudi, and the Aussies do the expected vs Oman, then the Thais will be 5 pts clear in 2nd at halfway. However, they've then got 2 trips to the Middle East, and only the Aussies in Bangkok, so there'll still be plenty to do.

The Australians should get out of this group comfortably, but the 2nd spot is well and truly up for grabs.

No chance. Iraq needs to lose both its remaining games (one against S'pore), while China has to win both (one against Jordan).

Camacho should be sacked (but won't be). Easiest qualifying opportunity (at least to the next round) for quite a while.

China out also, from memory this is the third time in a row they're out at this stage of the competition.

Saudi Arabia on the brink of elimination too.

Lebanon have done tremendously well, Thailand also id very well to stay in the hunt going into the last round.

Not quite as bad as our loss, but nice to see the Aussies trying to cheer us up.

Japan won in their sleep against Jordan. Looking very good this year. Local press believe, especially after the women have done so well.

I also hope Australia are crushed, or I'll never hear the end of the Oceania Cup result from the Aussies here

09 Jun 11:10 · edited 09 Sep 06:24

Aussies are moaning about the 40 degree heat they had to play in. Last time they played Oman away, they lost.

Not too sure how many of the team that played will be around at the next World Cup.

FFA statman Andrew Howe put the average age of the starting eleven at 31.69 years - the oldest Socceroo starting eleven in history. Carl Valeri also became the oldest youngest player in the starting line-up at 27 years and 299 days.

That sounds incredibly similar to the Phoenix...

Aussie will be happy with the 1 point against Japan, they should still qualify from the group I think. I can't see Iraq pushing them out of the 2nd place spot, but it would be nice to see them sweat a little.

Unfortunately, I just can't see anyone in Group B who'd be able to consign Australia to third or worse. Japan and South Korea look well on course, as usual.

The match between Australia & Japan was one of the best matches I have seen in a long while pity it was not on FTA TV… further it received [relatively] little media..

Pre games estimates said the  Asian audience would be  over 500 million.. read on a football forum [meaning not a reliable source]  the audience was bigger..

Think we will win our remaining Home games and gets some points in the Middle East … hope so do not want to play the fifth best South American team in a one off play off match.

Socceroo/ Mariner / Whangarei

This may have already been asked, but does the AFC intercontinental representative have to play the 5th best team from the qualifiers, which would actually be the 6th best team if Brazil was included?

14 Jun 02:09 · edited 09 Sep 06:24

You are correct. Brazil take no part in the qualifying, so don't count in finding the 5th best team.
