Worthington takes a cheap shot at Ricki.
Smeghead.
Cos Ricky WAS BRILLIANT !!
Got us to our first World Cup in 28 years and got us through it undefeated. Hudson will be happy to achieve that.

So, anyone gonna bite the bullet and give Radiosport a call and quiz Mr Hudson?
Naysayers?
Currently on Newstalk ZB and he's going to answer calls from listening.
he sounds like beckham...bring it on golden balls!
Fred de Jong is confident we will be playing an Asian team to qualify for the World Cup in 2018.
Interesting that he is pushing for it, do North and South American federations get a say?
Well he's named dropped Bill Tuiloma, so I'm gonna say that yep he's done his homework. His hero is the coach of Marseille though.
He also hopes his coaching contacts will help us secure other games, which I guess could see us play more Asian sides.
Everyone should be happy with this interview. He sounded ambitious but went into a bit more detail as well about what sort of style he wants the team to play. He even mentioned some names.
Does it really matter? He's the manager now, more important to see how he goes about coaching the side rather than worrying about who didn't get the job. All rumours anyway about who did or didn't apply from the UK
I'm not so worried about who didn't get the job but I am more interested in why he was head hunted in the first place. They had many applying for the job but for some reason thought he was worthy of being head hunted. Now that tells me all the other candidates were crap or they saw something special in him. Knowing what that something special is and how that person came to know about it, would be interesting.
That's a good concept, really like that.
Aren't they meant to be paying NZA next weekend in Taupo?
I like your thinking. Then we know who to blame if it all goes wrong.
An (unlikely) away leg against Bahrain might be interesting for Hudson.

Exactly. Yes he ran out of ideas in the end, yes he should have gone earlier, but don't forget the shambles that was the All Whites when he took over.
Give the bloke some credit for what he did achieve
I think where some folk get confused in this situation with Ricki is that you can get credit for doing a good job but you can also pass your use by date in that job despite what you have done. The trick is to know when to get out at the right time.
Why does Sir Alex Ferguson have legendary status at Manchester United? Cause he kept delivering and knew exactly when to get out. That's probably the difference in why Ricki and his supporters may feel he is reviled and not revered. You can't just sit back and go 'well I took us to the WC, stand by me' and there was perhaps an aspect (maybe arrogance?) of that from Ricki. You have to either get off the wagon and ride off into the sunset (after WC2010) where you look like a legend with folklore tendencies or if you stick around, you keep showing everyone you are the man and keep delivering. He stopped that.
The noise at the end for Ricki to roll was considerable and whether he was cognisant of that or not is debatable but he had to have known when the Phoenix gig packed in. That noise probably overshadowed all the credit he had gotten in his mind and maybe perhaps he had forgotten that he had been given. I think people give a lot of credit for what Ricki has done. Ricki probably feels he has not gotten that and as you say, it was a shambles when he took over and when he left, it was certainly armed with potential and in better shape for the next manager.
I look at John Adshead who was a legend to me but in my eyes, he tarnished that taking on the Kinghts gig. Some times you just have to know.....
I think the team we have for Hudson has a truck load of potential. We are very heavy for players in parts of the field and light in others but I hope he gets that mix right. We are in desperate need of a quality screening/winning DM (put your hand down Jake) so that should probably be his first job in sorting out cause I think the keeper, defenders, striker, wide men and AMs pick themselves

Yes, I agree it is about knowing when to give up, but looking at the nix alone, how long did he "overstay", remembering that he did take us to a finals series in his last full year here (albeit unsuccsesful) and then the following year had owners wanting to get him to play a style that was foreign to him.
It is moved off topic, but he would not be the first and wont be the last succsesful manager to have gone beyond his use-by date. Should his achievements prior to that time be forgotten or denegrated? Of course not.

Lochhead does not have a future but is the most ready. Hogg is fucking about at NRFL 1 in a rubbish Metro side (Headcase United is their unofficial name I believe) Rowe is overseas... somewhere, Tuiloma is not a natural LB and last I saw of him seriously at Birkenhead, he was a left half so I have zero opinion of him at DM and probably would not endorse him in that position for the type of player/skill set we need. James is a DM but is a deep lying ball playing DM. We need one that screens, wins and mops up. Kinda like Riera cause there are players in front of that position (McGlinchey, Thomas, Rojas, Kosta, James) that can distribute and do it better. I'm not sure his defensive abilities are right for the type of player we need in that role (bearing in mind there are differing types of DMs)
On the face of it based on a couple games, Doyle should fancy himself. Similar story to Thomas in that he has been given a chance and is stepping up to the plate to take that. I guess that A game will be a chance for Hudson to show his wares and what he has in front of the national coach.
I seem to recall Tuiloma has apparently been playing DM at Olympique Marsailles, which is why I suggested it. I've never seen him play there but if that's where his fancy-pants Eurotrash club are playing him then that's good enough for me.

James really isnt in our best 11 though.

Dan Keat's league is above where Chris James plays, but Chris James is a much better player than Dan Keat, so go figure.

Both players couldnt crack it in the A-League. Rate Keat and James over Brockie though.

OMG maybe we should go down the Herbert route, Brockie could play DM.

So they can't crack it in the A-League but you rate them more than a guy who can? Great logic.

That's a big call. I think both players would make solid A-League players if they were not kiwis. I'd say they would be in the upper half of the league to be fair.
I want to be cynical about the recent things the new coach has been saying.
sooooooooooo much.....
but holding back here, holding back.
