The players in the Phoenix backed Herbert though, then backed Ernie, and now back the current coaches. People like the devil they know.

Publically they backed Ernie, they didn't privately. The senior squad members have a lot of time for Hudson and that means a hell of a lot more than a few people on a forum butthurt about wikipedia editing and going to penalties vs PNG.

Anthony, is that you? ;)

Seriously though, having senior players back him is important, and the Wikipedia thing is just silly, but are you actually saying that we shouldn't be concerned about almost missing out on the Confeds cup to PNG? I just don't buy that. Winning the OFC Nation's Cup is the bare minimum expectation for the AWs and I think the manner in which we did it gives cause for concern. People seem to be willing to forget several toothless and aimless performances in competitive games because we looked ok in a couple of friendlies recently.

It was a blip certainly, but we'd just lost Wood and were playing in ridiculous and unfamiliar conditions. We didn't play well but we did get the result. Its not a great sign, but its nowhere near as relevant as good performances against high class opposition (even in friendlies) and slightly more convincing performances in the islands recently.

I'm definitely willing to forget poor performances because of better ones more recently - you're only as good as your last game. We've shown that we can play up to the level of better teams but we do still get dragged down when playing inferior teams and that happens at every level of football. I'm less concerned with what he does against island sides s long as we do get the results.

We've just coasted past Fiji in 2 games without breaking a sweat and I expect it to be a similar story vs Tahiti. Its a pity the jump between quality is so big from OFC to inter-continental playoffs but Hudson makes all the right noises around arranging high quality friendlies, and has followed through so far

He's not even close to perfect and has made some monumental fudge ups, but I've seen enough to back him for this WC campaign.

I guess I just think that in totality his results and the quality of play in his tenure has been very patchy. Things have started to look up, but they'd have to stay up for a while before I was convinced that it was the new normal

That's an entirely reasonable viewpoint - I guess we take different things from his early selection policy and that affects how we view the earlier performances especialy.
