Wonder if they will write a big cheque and go for the short term option of a Hiddink, or look to try and build towards post World Cup. Will be a big push for Ange but I question if he could have the same impact internationally, coaches just don't have the same time with the players as you do with a club.

No chance Ange would touch that job with a ten foot pole at this point.

Well if we don't make the finals and Riki gets the bullet, perhaps they might go for him.......................

“The decision is based on the longer term issues of the rejuvenation of the Socceroos team and the preparations for the World Cup and the Asian Cup,” said Lowy.

“FFA has set a strategic objective of having a highly competitive team in Brazil and then handing over a team capable of winning the Asian Cup on home soil in January 2015.

“We have come to the conclusion that change is necessary to meet those objectives."

“I have given our new Head of National Performance Luke Casserly and the National Technical Director Han Berger the task of conducting a review of our World Cup planning,” said Gallop.

“The review will include all aspects of the technical and logistical preparations, national teams unit staffing and the appointment of a new Head Coach."

Love hearing this coming from the national body.

Wow, only just caught up with this now. I feel a bit sorry for Osieck but there was no way he was going to survive another 6-0 hammering.

Was reported that Gallop has spoken to Hiddink. I can see Uncle Frank writing a big cheque for him

He is actually the person they need. He would do a job on a 9 month deal. Then they can build for the next cup with the next coach. I think Arnold is a better bet personally.

He would be ok too but I think the establishment would like to see him with a couple more years and a bit of distance between the players if I were speculating

At half time the French coach was interviewed on TV and he said we will respect our  opposition. Basically what he meant was we don't want to humiliate them any more so they took it easy second half. This is quite common in latin football. The idea is to win and leave your opposition with some mana. If the French had put the foot down in the second half it would easy have been 10+ goals. A team like Germany would have slaughtered Australia.

We should not get feel too superior to our Aussie cousins. We will probably play Mexico at the Azteca stadium. Considering our record over the last 18 months we could easily get smashed.....big time. Watching the vid of the Chicas highlights they opened us up on several occasions. Chivas are are really poor team, bottom of the league and recently beaten 0-5 and yet they waltzed through our midfield...just like the Island teams did earlier in the year.

There is a long standing moaning and moping in Aust football about not giving local coaches a go. The reality is that for a long time they were local but approximately early nineties the world game just suddenly accelerated, and Aust football was only catching up by mid - 2000. They played OK under Hiddink in the WC 2006 (but the squad was much younger). Japan moved miles ahead of Australia since the Battle of Kaiserslautern (at the WC 2006), and this is the yardstick everyone will measure the Socceroos performance, and their coach, by.

So having a one-off coach now for 9 months like Hiddink would maybe spare some blushes in Brazil but would not do much for winning the 2015 Asian Cup that Australia is hosting, and Hiddink would not hang around for that.

Frank Lowy declares new Socceroos coach will be an Australian - if their club agrees. Story on line shortly

Ange or Arnie? I would go Arnie.

Reckon it'll be ange. Theyve done the arnie thing before.

Ange is also "so hot right now" and is also good at bringing a squad together, which Australia desperately need at the moment.

I'd go with Arnold too though, for similar reasons that you have stated about Ange.

To be honest, you know you have 1st world issues when your choices are Ange and Arnold. Not a bad position to be in. Arnold has been there before and I think Ange has had the U20s and it did not work out well.

Interested to see which way they jump. I suspect because Arnold has had a bit of stint, that Ange is more likely, and they come back to Arnold if Ange does not work out.

Interestingly, Ange went back to club football (Brisbane) after the failed U20 campaign, and did well with BR.

Arnie did the same after coming back from the Socceroos. Don't think either are suited to national team coaching.

Think Poppa could work. WSW style would seem easier to implement in the time frame that internationals allow than how Ange likes to play.

Although FFA owns WSW, so they could persuade Poppa to shift, FFA is also trying to find a buyer for the Wanderers. Moving successful coach off to the national team would make it harder to sell, unless Poppa stays as a figurehead and Ante Milicic takes over on the park.

Victory wanting a million in compensation for Ange. I find the angst over it rather funny since they tapped him up whilst at the Roar, its nice to see them have the same thing happen to them.
