The Suba-roos (Australian Men's Team)
You are very naive by making this comment.I am one of the AW's biggest supporters and I think that the fact we are in the World Cup is the best thing since sliced bread. I have been the World Cups and Euro Champs and if you really know anythig about football, you should realise that we just don't have the class players to progress to the next round regardless of the draw.
In the last two World Cup games we had 7 players that play in the A league plus Ivan. Our boys have done a great job, but if you really think we can progress to the next round, you are truley a gripper.
You may think it is stupid, but to have upsets in the first round would mean that of the 3 games all of them would have to be upsets. You probably still belive in the tooth fairy.

It's not entirely inconceivable that we could progress to the second round - in one scenario, 2 points are enough to get through. I don't think this is very likely, but it is possible.
I think with a good draw we may be able to get a point or two, with a bad draw...well. Let's hope it's a good one.

I am praying every night for the perfect draw.

If we have eight players in the local league and Oz have nine playing EPL or top European leagues, what do you think?
I can see your point and anything is possible, however I doubt that we would beat Oz.

They're unlikely to play each other at the wold cup, or even before it, so it's a mute point in any event.

Correct

Moot?

Something like that, you get my drift though
Australia had plenty of strong games in AFC in leading up to this WC compared when they were in the WC2006. Indication are that they are a much more tougher team than were in 2005 with the Asian Cup and AFC WCQ games as well has having Pim coaching over a longer time period. Australia didn't even concede a goal in the final AFC group stage which suggests that they are cohesive in defence.
Of course it is a large step up but the step up would not be as big as they had to step up in 2006. they will definitely put up a very good chance. Can never really write off the Aussies.

Don't expect any AFC teams will get to the next round. Oz are the best of the AFC lot, but this group I think is too difficult for them.
When I was playing the reserves beat us every Thursday night.

Qantas Socceroos Head Coach Pim Verbeek has given permission for Jade North to leave the camp which is preparing for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2011 Qualifier against Indonesia, presented by FOXTEL, which will be played at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane on Wednesday 3 March 2010.
North is in the final stages of transferring from K-League club Incheon United to Norwegian Tippeligaen Club, Troms, and will leave Brisbane on Saturday to meet up with his new club in Turkey to undergo a final medical test.
North had consulted Verbeek throughout the transfer process and the Qantas Socceroos Head Coach understood why North had to leave camp early.
"I am very happy for Jade to find another club and it appears to be the right time to leave Korea so he can give himself the best chance to be selected for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa," Verbeek said.
"He is going to play in a very difficult league and if he can play regular football he will be much better off, concluded Verbeek
As a result of Norths departure, Verbeek has called up Adelaide United defender Robert Cornthwaite. Cornthwaite made his debut for the Qantas Socceroos in the AFC Asian Cup 2011 qualifier against Kuwait in Canberra last year.
