I look forward to what Diego's Son has to say.

Three for me, and two for them.

Craig Moore has to be dropped. I said that I was surprised he made the squad and it will be an even bigger surprise if he's retained. To me Aussie got what they deserved. You play without a striker and without the talent and/or discipline to get forward from midfield then what hope have you got. To do it against a side of Germany's quality (however surprising that quality might be to you) is naive. Verbeek screwed up monumentally. Wrong players, wrong system.

Nah, Craig Moore got a yellow in 24th minute. Neill got booked before Cahill's red as well.

Man I really want to rub this in (more) but there comes a point you don't want it to bite your own team in the bum.

Great demolition Germany

442 rate him as the best defender in their defence on this performance...Hope Verbeek has the balls to say I got it wrong, and completely change his plans...Ruka vysta looked ok I thought...

They are still in with a chance though in their other 2 games. No one would really have expected them to beat the Huns [except their fans]. Ill reserve final judgement until after their next game

I couldn't believe how bad Australia were - they made England look like and dynamic, pacey imaginative team.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Laugh out loud! Looks like karma for little Timmy? Hope little Vinnie Grella gets a red as well, preferably in the next match. I'll be happy.

All I'll say is what goes around comes around. If you want to persist in dodgey, borderline tackling then eventually someone is going to have the balls to say "enough". When things went against them the Aussies indulged their rough house tactics again only this time it wasn't a "friendly" and they got what they deserved.
Moore and Neill kept abusing the linos for not giving offsides... eeer that's because they weren't offside lads. The Germans timing of their runs was amazing.

As for winding up the Aussies in general over this result I think I'll just wait and see how our boys go first.

You are spot on. Tim C. is not a striker. Should have been Kennedy, plus two other changes.
Cahill' s tackle was never a straight red, but at the same time was stupid.

Klose and Podolski scored only 3 and 2 goals respectively in the Bundesliga but Loew ignored widespread calls to drop them. It appears that for a reason. By the way, I dont think we should laugh at Aussies because it can happen to New Zealand at WC (Lord forbid!)

Can't see it. Their morale will have taken a hammering, they are without their best performed player for the must-win Ghana match and structurally from front to back they are a total mess. The wheels have been wobbling on the Socceroo jalopy for a long time now - they are about to come flying off I reckon.

The only truly class player they have is Cahill and he's been whacked with the banstick.  Completely unstabstantiated rumour that Kewell has thrown a tanty and walked out.

Source reliability 5% but still interesting.

I guess the difference is none of us that I have seen are arrogant enough to think that this can't happen to us. There is plenty of evidence (here and elsewhere) that a number of Aussies felt that they were above this, and practically deserved to qualify for the second round by entitlement. Hence the laughter (from me at least) even though I really want them to go through.aitkenmike2010-06-14 20:34:49

Yeah as much as I like seeing this, 4 nil isn't that bad, Italy could easily do that to us. Germans are the kind of side that do this though, remember the 8 nil against Saudi's in 02. They looked pretty sharp, especially that Ozil guy, even though he's a cheat.

Random fact. Or two.

Australia's game with Ghana will be their first World Cup finals game not involving Germany*.

Previous two world cup appearances were in Germany (74 & 06), and now they kick-off this world cup playing them!

They've also managed a (unique?) trifecta of having been beaten by East Germany, West Germany and now Germany Germany. 2-0, 3-0 and 4-0 in that order.

Must be sick of the sight of them.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!!

So Mr Vebeek finally got found out. He managed to out muscle everyone in Asia with his negative tactics and rough house play and now all the cockatoos have finally come home to rest. What they hell was he thinking of not playing any strikers. Cahill is a good player but he's not a lone strikers a.hole.

Germany did not have to worry at the back as their two big CD's could easily cope with Australias slow attack. They could therefore happily throw their excellent wide players like Lahm forward which pulled the Oz midfielder wide. Then they just carved up through the middle. They could have won 6-0.

That would have to one of the most tactically niave piece of coaching in the history of the WC. Verbeek is a one dimmensional, limited, useless coach. How Australia is going to pick themselves up before the next match is beyond me. Their next two opponents also play a fast skillful game.....I doubt whether Verbeek has any clues how to change things in time.

Looking back on the Oz/Aw's game it was quite obvious the sun has been setting on the Socceroos for some time. They have the second oldest average age of any team at the Cup. NZ showed them up in Melbourne....and the krauts ripped them to shreds.

I think your remarks about Verbeek are pretty much right-on, but I actually took no pleasure from the result.

Simply, Germany gave them a footballing lesson.

Aussie have no fit and proven strikers of world class. Schwarzer saved them from total humiliation.

Game over.

Germany v Argentina final, anyone?
