As hosts of the party South Africa have a lot of eyes on them, both in the running of the event and the how 'the boys' play on the pitch.

I am hoping they make it out of the group stage, but at present that is wishful thinking. Their record this year is 18 games played, 10 goals scored, wining 5 and losing 10. They haven't scored in their last 4 games. They also are currently the 2nd worst team, according to FIFA rankings, that will be participating at the World Cup. Ranked as the 85th best team, which is 2 below NZ and 6 ahead of Korea DPR.

News on the team can be found here:

Released their home kit for the World Cup this past week:

God fifa rankings are awful.

Yeah I think theyll really struggle unless group drawing is rigged.

The noise is neutral though. Not relevant at all to the game. It is just noise.

I just reckon that fans that blow the vuvuzelas consistently throughout the game don't benefit South Africa as much as they could.

Here is coverage from their game against Japan on the weekend (funny ad at half time):

Being seeded gives them a huge leg up. Certainly not inconceivable they could get to the second round.

But they'll definitely be the weakest African side at the cup.

So South Africa are now the lowest FIFA ranked team at the World Cup.

Hate the South African team and wish nothing more than to see them fail.

I hope they go hard on them this World Cup after other nations bloomin' complaining about them. The very fact that others are complaining / trying to get them banned indicates they may be effective...

Had some good friendly results.  Just beat Denmark 1-0.  I wonder if they've been completely written off to early.  I mean they won't win it and yes, these are just friendlies, but encouraging signs for them nonetheless and they could snatch a few points.

Still hope they fail.
