I guess most of you were at the Nix game yesterday, but for those of us unable to make it we had to watch Chelsea vs LA Galaxy.

I've never seen a football game that was as wanky as what I saw yesterday.

Prior to kick off they showed a clip of other Brits to invade the US including the Beatles, Twiggy and of course The Spice Girls.

They had a red carpet outside the stadium with hundreds of photographers for when Becks hollywood mates arrived.

But the worst was yet to come. They even had....the Beckham Cam. This meant that as well as watching the game you could also see a small picture inthe bottom right corner of your TV  showing Becks warming the bench for 75 minutes.

And I thought our broadcasters were a joke. . ..

Really enjoyed seeing him tackled on 1 and 3 news. Much better than watching the Phoenix. Lets see if that gnome Veitch is as good as his word. "We don`t cover pre season games".

The worst is still yet to come mate, the following weeks are gonna be utterly ridiculous you watch.

And no, he won't change the game in the US.

Three for me, and two for them.

i loved beckham cam! but seriously now, i watched the all-star match the week before and all they could talk about was beckhams arrival and if he would play or not. i can't stand the commentry team they have as theyd rather talk bout him than the players on the field and what they are doing on it.

and i also found it interesting that they would stop a game for a bit for lightning. wimps

For those of us who like Beckham, lay off! He has not done anything wrong - he is a professional football player and can sign for who he likes. I think it is good for MLS that he is there to boost media coverage.

Beckenbauer couldn't
Best couldn't

How the hell is Beckham gonna change it, unless he changes it for the worse.

the media coverage will be waaaaaaaaaaay more......think lots of $$$$$$ from Jerseys, scarfs etc

also, it'll raise the global profile of the league

btw Adu has gone to/is going to Benfica apparently  for US$2mil (just to drag it off topic)

Honestly the whole move is a f**king joke i mean all we have heard so far about Posh and Becks is typical hollywood bollocks. He's raking it in now with all those sponsorship deals and loving his $10 million mansion like he realy gives a f**k about whether or not the yanks will actually follow a real sport for a change.

Raise the profile??? Sorry?? The only thing this american media wankfest is gonna do is turn the profile of this league into a complete joke. The MLS is ok as it is it's not great but it's not sh*t either and provides a useful stepping stone into the top european leagues but Beckham's move is an utter joke if you haven't bothered to read all of my f**king rant then read this: DAVID BECKHAM'S MOVE TO LA IS A f**kING JOKE IT'S ALL ABOUT HOLLYWOOD AND THE RICH AND FAMOUS IT'S GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH FOOTBALL!! Get it through your heads ffs!!!

Three for me, and two for them.

The last few years have seen the Quality of North American football rise and rise ,this seems to have been achieved through the college football teams system and major league soccer who develope young players some of whom ultimately  make it through to the English premiership and other European leagues ,it has not gained this credibility by making the same mistakes it made in the late 70s early 80s of bringing in (aging) super stars and trying to work from the top down ,it has realized that football has to evolve from a youth based system, this Beckham nonsense is a aboration a freak show i for one  cant see how it will benefit football in the long term in the USA in any way at all the only thing that it will benefit is the Beckhams bank balance!! Buffon, i agree it isnt about the football and its only about giving the lollypop more shopping money, but any non-negative publicity for the sport will help............................

Celtic, lets not go there, we'll be here all day

Should be interesting if he will play at all in regular MLS season action this Sunday in Toronto. I will be going to the game, but I'm strictly there for TFC (maybe a little bit of Posh too haha).

High five to that, but it looks like becks won't be playing again.

And yes, of course the Beckham thing is just a publicity stunt. *DUH*. Every true football fan in north america knows just as well as the rest of thew world that this is just some unbelievably rich ignoramuses seeing how much attention they can stir up by throwing money at nothin. Well, almost nothing. Why do you think LA Galaxy are in the north american superliga, despite the galaxy being one of the worst MLS clubs the last few seasons? Why do you think the LA Galaxy have so many friendlies against overseas clubs, despite their afforementioned record? Why do you think the LA Galaxy were allowed to change their kits mid-season, this time their afforementioned record having no argumentative bearing on the matter?

It's all just a weak attempt to make americans who don't follow soccer interested in the sport, and to make them feel powerful in a nationalistic manner in knowing they've signed such a "high-profile" player.

And it's a little embarassing for those of us who actually follow the league and who know that MLS can and has produced several quality players of its own.

I know this was an issue to FC Dallas fans, but I didn't hear too much in the news about Toronto FC fans complaining and wanting their money back. MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment - who owns Toronto FC ) did make this statement:

[QUOTE]
In response to media inquiries regarding the scheduled appearance by David Beckham when the Los Angeles Galaxy visit Toronto FC on Sunday, August 5, ticket buyers should be aware that the standard policy for sports and entertainment events as it pertains to scheduled appearances remains in effect.

Consistent with all sporting events, we are not in a position to guarantee that any player will appear in a match. Those decisions are determined by the coaching staff with advice from their advisors at match time. As with any other player under contract with either club participating in the game, should Mr. Beckham be unable to play in the game no refunds will be issued for tickets purchased.

Fans should be aware that Mr. Beckham has been rehabilitating an injury. His status for Sunday's game in Toronto has not been determined by the Galaxy at this time.

omgosh I cannot wait for this Beckham crap to die down.....  it was very frustrating for the media to be going on an on about Beckham, talking about the crowds going out to BMO field, etc. We were selling out games all season!!!  And it's like the media was forgetting there was actually a game being played. Irritating hollywood sh*t!.

As for the game..... it was a 0-0 draw but TFC played an AWESOME game regardless! If only they could find the back of the net.

Yeah too bad Lombardo can't strike worth a crap. With all the trade's Mo's been doing this year that's one player he really should be trying to unload.

But good on you guys for throwing pink streamers and holding up signs like "Bench it like Beckham". I laughed pretty hard when I saw that one.

Yeah we need some finishers..... unfortunately the ones we have are out with injuries.  LOL, yeah the pink streamers were pretty funny. I really wish I lived close enough to go to the games.

Here's some video of the Red Patch Boys and U-Sector pregame meet-up before the LAG game last Saturday. RPBs in the buses, U-Sec across the street. Too much fun!

Been to both cities, both very nice. Toronto is a lot like Chicago (where I live) and Calgary . . . is well, Calgary.  A beautiful city that's pretty large but feels a lot better planned out and a load of fun to party during July.

I go to Stampede ever year and it's always a wild time.  Golf, alcohol, golf, food, alcohol, golf and Cowboys night club tub tarts!!!!  Oh, and there's some kind of rodeo going on too from my understanding.

Funny thing, I was in TO during the 2002 WC and in Calgary for the 2006 WC final.  TO was way more soccer crazy and very into the WC, but everyone at the Kennsington Pub in Calgary were a load of fun to be around.  They thought it was odd that an American knew so much about soccer . . . but I was the the first guy in the bar (cause I never went to bed that night) and the only guy wearing a scarf (one of my FIRE supporter scarves) and had to explain some of the finer points of the game to some locals.  And besides I said to one guy, we were the ones with the top flight league between the two countries.  The one TFC paid to play in.

Calgary=good times (i.e. tub tarts and hot ladies EVERYWHERE)
