What are your best or worst moments watching or playing football? Being on the terraces with the Woking fans at the Hawthorns for the F.A. cup third round tie in 1991 which they won 4-2. At the time Woking were in the division below the Conference and West Brom were in the old division two. About 120 league places above them. Also supporting Scotland at euro `92 in Sweden. Great atmosphere at the games and a lot of fun before, after and between games. The worst would have to be the game that never was Hillsborough 15 april  1989. The most emotional would be the cup final versus Everton the same year. Possibly the only time at football i have had a tear in my eye.                                              sanday2007-04-17 08:12:45

Last year's FA Cup final fits both the best and the worst for me.Absolute exhilaration, turned to complete heart break.

Worst - Breaking a rib 3 weeks ago in a collision with our own 'keeper.  Though that is small change compared to Hillsborough.  Don't deserve to be in the same post really.

Best - 5 European Cups

Best:  Watching Colchester Utd 3 Leeds Utd 2 in the 1971 FA Cup. This was when Leeds were a European powerhouse with Bremnerand co.

Worst: Getting frozen at Grimsby Town in the snow on Boxing Day then getting beaten up after we lost 2-0. Great! Not.

Best personal memory, scoring a goal in the Essex Cup semi final for Colchester Woods Athletic.

how bout a weird moment?

back in the days of junior soccer we had a couple of girls in our team one year. one was real good, scarred the crap outta most the guys (habitual foot stomper) and the other not so. one day we were playing against roslyn wakari at ellis park and for only reasons known to this girl in the middle of the game she sat down at half way and started playing with a feather. weird

Best: Arsenal going unbeaten in 03/04. Any of the 3 NZFC titles with Auckland City. All Whites 1-0 Australia in 02. 2002 World Cup (the whole thing).

Worst: Kingz losing 7-0 to Parramatta at home. Con Boutsianis scoring the winner vs Kingz for Sth Melbourne when he wasn't supposed to be playing. CL Final last season.

Three for me, and two for them.

I wonder if anyone has ever scored a hat trick of own goals in a single match?? Probably happened to someone somewhere.

Orpewise - The in laws rave about Colchester v Leeds.  Seems to be replayed every Christmas on  " Look East".
Best - Wyton Rufer's goal against China in 82; from the kick off, two headers, a flick and a massive shot from the edge of the box.
Best set piece Eastern Suburbs against Christchurch United at Newmarket Park Auckland(yes the park did slide down the gully) around 1974.  That goal made me the football follower I am today!!

Best - Super Danny Allsopp and Magic Mark Stallard shooting us out of the relegation zone.

But then again Jimmy Sirrell (GOD) did take us up 4 times, although I wasnt alive then, but have had the privelidge of meeting him.

Also, being top of the top division in 91 was magic, shame I cant remember being so young.

Another low - coming 88th out of 92 league clubs and almost falling into non league

Two best moments for me

  • When Liverpool came back from 3-0 down to win the champions league
  • when Stevie Gerrard single handedly won the FA cup for Liverpool last year

worst was watching the crappy kingz and knights play

Thanks Edward 1.

The Col U Leeds game can never be beaten for anyone alive in Colchester at that time.  Being behind the goal where Raw Crawford scored the first two goals is still the greatest moment of my life.  Ray's first goal was brilliant at any time at any level.  I believe that he responded as though he was still at the peak of his Ipswich fame and acted on pure instinct for that goal.

Best or worst? So many memories all brought about by a stupid game. I can go on and on and on....

Better: NZ making it to Spain, Meeting the Barcelona team in 1996 (Stoichkov is shy!), chatting with George Best,  Everton V Liverpool at Wembley 1984. meeting Rabah Madjer, being mobbed by Asante Kotoko fans, being interviewed by Zambian telvevision, day out wth a load of Piacenza fans at Juventus, getting hat trick after only touching the ball four times in ninety minutes, being shown on Match of the Day twice in the same programme, the crowd outside Islington Town Hall seeing Arsenal parade the League Championship in 1989, my one and only first team game at Stop Out, Brittany cafe watching Man U beat Bayern in the company of twenty Bayern fans,  Geoff Brand's goal against Eastern Suburbs, Petone winning Junior National Cup, night out with the Woking chairman's daughter (see OP),

Worse: Being chased by Blackburn fans thinking I was a Preston fan, Stop Out being relegated in 1980, losing in the 1986 FA Cup Final, passing out exhausted at half time....

and many more....

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

It's never been recorded, the best I can recall was a Dutch (?) club putting three past their own keeper in a UEFA cup tie vs Spurs in the 70s.
Also, Chris Nicholl scored 2 at both ends playing for Aston Villa vs someone or other in the late seventies/early eighties. So in total he scored 4 in the game. Game finished, funnily enough, 2-2.
Other weird hattricks. Andy Blair scored a hattrick of penalties (for either Villa or Sheff Wed) in the early eighties and Martin Palermo (sp) missed a hattrick of penalities for Argentina a couple of years back.
Which begs the question, why did his teamates let him take the third?
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

Jimmy Sirrell was in charge at County during the Pedro Richards years, was he not?
He looked like a cross between Eric Sykes and Christopher Lee's Dracula, only with Gene Wilder's eyes.

Amazing - wonder if he got the match ball

That and the player of the day for the opposition!

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

Worst moments - being told I was to small/to slow/not good enough to play at a decent level. Player of the day one week then dropped to the reserves the next.
Best moments - every goal I ever scored in the past 48 years (latest one 2 weeks ago). China game in '82. English cup final against ChCh Utd in early '80s. Many others and many more to come!

mmm where to start...........

Best "I was there" Moment - John Wesley Smith (Wests) scores a screamer from 20 yards against Lower Hutt City 1997 (maybe 98). I think it was Graham Pearce that the launched ball at him from inside Wests half....JWS, with his back to goal, chested it up and unleashed a full noise BIKEY past a helpless LHCAFC keeper - best goal by any Wests player ever (so i was told, i was about 15/16 at the time)

Best (?) "Was Involved" Moment - seeing poor Sam Higgins break his leg at Porirua Park when I was playing for Wests. I've watched it on video and I turn even whiter than I normally am after i see his lower leg bent half way down the shin.......yuck yuck yuck moment.

Best "Saw It, Loved It" Moment - one of my earliest football memories, seeing Cantona put a penalty past the Chelsea keeper in an FA Cup Final - i was in Napier for some reason.....can't remember why.....

Thats me done!
