I always enjoy your writings Pete, your knowledge and insight into players in foreign leagues is fascinating. Without giving away your identity, I'd be interested in knowing how/why you have that level of interest and knowledge in those topic areas?

Top man BP - always informative, nice humour too.
Must rank up there as one of YF's best anoraks (in a good way).

That is somewhat of an honour bestowed to Pete having his own thread and well deserved. Comparable to a knighthood in yellowfever land. Has anyone else received one?

Oh, okay then, here I am:

Cambridge University's goalkeeper, early 1920's wrote:

“For I do not exist: there exist but the thousands of mirrors that reflect me. With every acquaintance I make, the population of phantoms resembling me increases. Somewhere they live, somewhere they multiply. I alone do not exist.”

“Human life is but a series of footnotes to a vast obscure unfinished masterpiece”
― Vladimir NabokovLolita

"I was less the keeper of a soccer goal, than the keeper of a secret. As with folded arms I leant against the left goalpost. I enjoyed the luxury of closing my eyes, and thus I would listen to my heart knocking and feel the blind drizzle on my face, and hear in the distance the broken sounds of the game, and think of myself as of a fabulous exotic being in an English footballer’s disguise composing my verse in a tongue nobody understood about a remote country nobody knew. Small wonder I was not very popular with my teammates." Nabokov,  Speak, Memory, 1950

Poster of the Year:

Careful!!! It's all going to my head....I feel a change coming over me....dark side.....no, no,no....beginning to worship Jose Mourinho...
  • Jose Mourinho: “He must really think I’m a great guy. He must think that, because otherwise He would not have given me so much. I have a great family. I work in a place where I’ve always dreamt of working. He has helped me out so much that He must have a very high opinion of me.” – When the Spanish radio network Cope asked him what he believed God thought about him.

well, "They Never Called Pablo Picasso an Asshole..."
Remember, kids:
(Jonathan Richman)
"Oh well
be not schmuck, be not obnoxious,
Be not bellbottom bummer or asshole
Remember the story of Pablo Picasso
He could walk down your street
And girls could not resist his stare
Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole..."
