Monday, 12 October 2009 00:00 The Botswana Football Association (BFA) National Executive Committee (NEC) has suspended the Association�s Chief Executive Officer, Mooketsi Tosh Kgotlele.
Kgotlele�s suspension comes after the Zebras poor performance in the recent game against China in which they lost 4 � 1. The national was taken to China to celebrate that country 60th Independence celebrations, Botswana was celebrating her 43rd anniversary almost at the same time.
The CEO was in charge of the time while in China. It is not yet clear why he was suspended.
Gazette Sport has learnt that a South African based company organised and financed the game. SGM sport Global Management trading as SGM Southern Africa is a subsidiary of Paris based, Sport Global Management International. The agency is a boutique Sports Agency offering various services to the sport industry.
The BFA on Monday issued a press release through its president, David Fani informing the nation about the suspension of the CEO pending the investigations. �The NEC convened an emergency meeting on Sunday to review a report concerning the senior national team match between China and Botswana played on 30th September in Horhot, China�� reads part of the statement.
Fani further wrote that during the organization of the match, �certain incidents took place, which were not in line with competition and fair play and which were not in the interests of the game of football in Botswana, the senior National team, or the BFA�.
The NEC has instituted investigation against the allegations to protect the reputation and image of the game of football in Botswana. It is understood that relevant law and security agencies are handling the matter a detailed report is expected in due course.
Meanwhile Gazette Sport has learnt that the Chinese coach was under pressure to win the game against the Zebras so as to protect his job. It is said the Chinese team needed a three goal margin and three points to qualify for one of the Asian tournaments.
A source who spoke to Gazette Sport revealed that the players upon arrival in China, they were constantly disturbed by some officials who were suspected to be persuading some players to fix the match. �Some of the players must be investigated.�
It is understood that this matter has open a can of worms as some officials have began spilling the beans on events that took place in the past.
