A thread for England

Will this be their year

Or will the All Whites knock them out on penalties?

No.

Yes.

All Whites to knock them out 3-2 in the quarters.
You know we belong together...

Kiwis'll pump them 4-0 in group stages and they'll go into a tough second round fixture against Spain and lose 3-1.

Quarter-finals at best. But I hope they embarass themselves in the group stages and go home before the second round with their tails between their legs.

You say this out of hate. If England have everyone fit, they are serious WC contenders. No other teams have stars like Lampard, Gerrard, Barry, Rooney, Terry, Ferdinand, Cole etc. Not to mention the depth considering Young, Beckham and co cannot make the starting 11.

Yup, I bet there will be many a coach who's gutted he doesn't have that sort of quality in his squad.    Jag2009-11-18 22:47:57

What, there is football in Europe apart from the EPL?

I freely admit I hate the English team, but I also don't believe they are a world class side by any means.  I think they'll make the round of 16, hopefully no further, but if they were to be knocked out earlier than that I'd be a happy man.

England to raise the World Cup for the second time. No doubt in my mind. I'll be there to cheer my lungs out for the All Whites but realisticly I'm wanting Engand to hoist the trophy aloft come the final.

Its no longer a problem.

Here's a piece of meaningless trivia, that will perhaps bouy those England fans of a fatalistic disposition:

The last time New Zealand and England played at the same World Cup, England went home without losing a game. Should the same scenario occur in 2010 England will be world champions.

How the hell can you say Terry, Barry and Ferdinand are not quality. Barry and Terry are easily top 5 in their positions (DM and CB) while Ferdinand is certainly competing. Looking forward to England to prove you all wrong.

Spain are the only team that would come close to matching them. They lack depth at the back however and all their midfielders are too similar. Strikers sort of conflict with each other which doesn't allow them to perform to their best. Also Capello is so much better then Gonzalez. Not to mention Spain are bigger chokers then England.

Woah woah woah. Too similar? Xavi and Iniesta are a perfect pairing, Fabregas can play anywhere, Alonso is totally different to Senna, who are both able to play a deeper role. Depth at the back? Puyol, Pique, Marchena, Albiol... Agree generally about Villa and Torres, but either one is capable of winning a game.

I can say it because it's what I believe. That's why.

Gareth Barry? Hardly a name which I'd imagine would spring to most people's minds if you asked them to name their 5 best midfield players in the world. Terry and Ferdinand? Good players, I didn't say they weren't, but are you really saying that no other team at the WC has CBs as good as those two? Hmm.  Cole? I'm not even going to go there.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I could of been talking about J Cole... At A Cole at LB is one of the best in the world because of the lack of depth there. Barry I meant in regards to DMs. He is better then Alonso anyway. Terry and Ferdinand are certainly around top 5, if it came across as saying no other team has CBs as good as them I apologise but they are certainly solid at the back. Basically I can't see any team other then Spain, Brazil or England winning. SA conditions will prove interesting and I suspect Euro teams will find it difficult to adjust while Brazil should cope.

Wasn't talking about your post. Looked in the Italy thread too and see they could do with a new one too. At that point, I gave up looking for any sensible discussion - but I guess all the team-specific threads are being trolled.
