Check this out

I have heard fans on many occasions say that this is "their Club"
Looks as though this lot have made that come true.

I could be wrong, but I'm sure that Real Sociedad and Barcelona are owned by their fans.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Quote from the BBC article

"In a landmark for English football, members will vote on player selection, transfers and all major decisions."

Having watched the diverse opinions on this forum from a relatively small fan base, can you imagine what could happen when you have 20,000 people giving advice as to team selections, etc.

I'd have a genuine fear of Frankie Mac starting up front along side George (who would be man of the match everyweek).

Its no longer a problem.

Even the idiots on here would not be stupid enough to play me upfront in an A League game.

They all know I play in the hole.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite

Read about this scheme a while back, never thought they would actually get a club whose directors were stupid enough to sell.

To give you all some quick background, 'Ebbsfleet United' as they are now called were 'Gravesend and Northfleet Football Club' until the end of the 2007 season. The directors, in their wisdom and with minimal fan consultation took a sponsorship deal with Eurostar (who run the trains through the channel tunnel) and renamed the club Ebbsfleet. Ebbsfleet is nothing more than a station on the channel tunnel rail link!

Couldnt believe it when I saw this on BBC this morning. I was born in Gravesend, and the last game I saw before moving to NZ was a Gravesend v Gillingham preseason match in 2001.

Like the name change, its the directors cashing in when they got the chance, certainly isnt a good move for the club

Aren't teams in the premier leagues and spanish league and a host of other leagues in Europe just listed on the stock exchange?

I say tackle him in the face.

yip, but the shareholders don't all get to vote on who gets in the starting 11, formation to play, who to buy, who to sell...

short term it will be great. loads of money, boost in attendance, profile.

Its long term that scary. What happens to the club when only half of the 20,000 renew next year. And the year after, and after....

Scary, very definately, exciting yes to an outsider, I too as a supporter of a club, would be worried about the long term effects.

However, from the distance of NZ, I am interested to see how it pans out.

Hmm, given that Eurostar from the latest reports I've read still has failed to make a profit in more than 10 years of operation I wonder if this was an auspicious choice of a sponsor? And what does it bode for the future of the club. Just random musings here

i didnt read the article but ALL ARGENTINIAN CLUBS are run by fans, they are assosiations not companies. Members actually vote in the presedent etc, so its beautifully corupt

I feel this is just a fad idea doomed to failure.

The better model for fan ownership is clubs like AFC Telford United and FC of Manchester where the fans have a strong and local affiliation with the club and the community.

The problem with the "fans from anywhere" web based ownership is that I fear the fad will fade and the numbers supporting the iniative will fall away.
It smacks a bit of a "game" rather than a serious long term interest in Ebbsfleets future.

I think a lot of NRL clubs in Aussie are 'owned' by fans (members) too.
