Well, I'm getting very excited about the World Cup and have been trying to remember some of the great moments and goals from previous tournaments to rev myself up until 11 (well, 12 here) June.
So I've decided to post my ten favourite goals from previous World Cups and share my giddyness...they are in no particular order.
Maradona v England, 1986
D. Jozic v Colombia, 1990
M. Negrete v Bulgaria, 1986
Saeed Al-Owairan v Belgium, 1994
M. Owen v Argentina, 1998
M. Laudrup v Uruguay, 1986
Carlos Alberto v Italy, 1970
R. Baggio v Czechoslovakia, 1990
D. Bergkamp v Argentina, 1998
D. Stojkovic v Spain, 1990

Naw, in class. Do it later.
Emile Heskey's strike vs Denmark in '02 is also another one I enjoyed. Though it isn't as spectacular as the previous ones mentioned and it was against Denmark (which is bad).

Stoichkov v Mexico in '94:simple and direct;the sulky Bulgarian rockets past the final defender and absolutely wellies the ball in.To make it better, the goalie was Campos, the "extrovert" with vomit all over his shirt...oh that was the shirt?hmmmm...
Platty v Belgium in '90 is pretty good too...

Emile Heskey vs Denmark (all 3 goals on here, third goal is Heskey's)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yRbULVgA08 - doesn't seem great, and maybe it's not but in one of the replays on the day of the game you saw the curve of the ball take it around Sorenson's hand and between the posts and it was just great even though I don't like England.
Diego Forlan vs Senegal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpCGNqOUXdU - Sensational strike.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp9VAbezViQ - This is the whole Uruguay vs Senegal match in which Forlan scored that beauty. One of my favourite games.

Anyone remember what game it was when Brazil scored after hitting the woodwork about 3-4 times in the same move? Think it was at the 1978 World Cup.
I know it's on youtube, but couldn't find it. Not a particularly great goal in the end, but pretty memorable, for me at least.

"Maradona, turns like a little eel, he turns away from trouble. Little squat man comes inside Butcher - leaves him for dead - outside Fenwick - leaves him for dead - and puts the ball away. And that is why Maradona's the greatest player in the world. He buried the English defence... It's a goal of great quality by a player of the greatest quality... Maradona has put the seal on his greatness... He scored a goal that England just couldn't cope with, they couldn't face up to; it was beyond their ability. It's England nil, Diego Maradona two."
