They got a tough pool, Spain, Nigeria and Venezuela. not sure i envy them.

good luck to them, they are representing OFC. i look forward to following them on this. i can expect they are going to get taught a couple of lessons here. i guess most of the Spanish team are Pro's?

Maybe re-name this thread as the official U20 world cup thread? Unless theres one already and i cant see it

Just randomly found a replay of the opening match on SS1 right now - Egypt v Trinidad/Tobago
Cracking game. Egypt all over them, then the 80,000 crowd went mental after an awesome opening goal. Egypt schooling them yet somehow against the run of play TT just equalised. Good goal too.
This is great football - decent skill level, very quick end to end stuff.

HT Spain 4-0 Tahiti. Not a good look.

Three for me, and two for them.

8-0 finish. Probably their hardest game, but they look like they'll struggle to compete with any nation there.

Tremendous scissor-kick goal by Uruguay to get well deserved 1-0 victory over England.

Tahiti got pumped 8-0 again, this time by Venezuela.

I'd like to know just how they beat us? I hold Stu Jacobs responsible for this.

Three for me, and two for them.

Not good for Oceania... Fifa might not put up with Oceania teams getting smashed in this way if it keeps happening...

And worse, Tahiti had two players sent off in the first half- so they did okay in the circumstances with only seven outfield players for most of the match.
Four of the goals they conceded came in the last 15 minutes.

Apparently Spain had 70% of the possession against them but Tahiti did play attractively when they did get the ball...4 goals in each half here:

Nigeria in the same group also lost their first two matches and are playing Tahiti as I type, in their final group match with a slim chance of making the last 16.

Australia have also been disappointing, losing their first two games- first time they've ever lost their opening game in an U-20 World Cup apparently...
Australia 1 : Czech Repub. 2             Aust 0 : Costa Rica 3
Not much hope of making the quarters considering their last group match is against Brazil!
One Aussie sent off in each game so far...
Described on FIFA.com as "lacking in inspiration" and short of an attacking threat up front.
Eighteen year-old Sydney FC winger of African descent,  Kofi Danning, looked their best attacking player when I saw the Czech game on Sky the other day.

Talking of which, isn't it pathetic they've only screened two games in total so far (the opening Egypt- Trinidad game and Australia- Czechs)?
Hope they screen all the Quarters!

Come on Hungary! 1-0 up after a first minute pen against Italy. 68 mins in. They're defending for their lives...

Brilliant game. Finished 3-2 to Hungary. Italy with three red cards, Hungary with one. Nemeth scored after 112 minutes, and then Italy scored 113 minutes to make it 2-2 before Nemeth got the winnner after around 117 minutes. Great game. Loads of cards and drama- as well as some top goals (the Italian goal to make it 2-2= incredible!!)

Oh a Red card for Ghana player. A bad tackle form behind when the Brazilian player was obviously out and away from him. A-league referees take note please . . . .

Brazil ///xx
Ghana //xx/

Sudden death

Brazil x
Ghana /

Ghana wins 4-3 PSO.

First time win competition for africa. Ghana did well after being down to 10 players. The skills of both the teams were very high quality indeed. Good game.

I found myself really wanting Ghana to win when they had a guy sent off. So that was good. And Hungary got third, so yay.
