FIFPro team of the year: Casillas; Dani Alves, Evra, Terry, Vidic; Xavi, Iniesta, Gerrard; Ronaldo, Messi, Torres.

Don't know how Pique isn't in there, to be honest. Ahead of Terry or Vidic, surely. The defence wouldn't get much protection though!

Gerrard

Three for me, and two for them.

Fabregas . Oh!

But yeah, I tend to agree. Gerrard just gets in there because of his name.

My thoughts exactly Buffy.

Put Kaka on for Gerrard and you don't even need a defence, the opposition would never get the ball.el grapadura2009-12-22 12:29:32

Yeah! Haha. I reckon Masch would be worth a shout in there, ahead of Stevie. Although that'll probably end up being the Barcelona midfield next year...

No Partick Thistle players made the team either. What a load of old rubbish.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

"Being a Partick Thistle fan sets you apart. It means youre a free thinker. It also means your team has no money." Tim Luckhurst, The Independent, 4th December 2003

Lampard played pretty well last season, better then Gerrard. Lampard is easily the most under-rated player in the world.

Gerrard played a large part in our push for the title, the mauling of Madrid etc. Still, I don't really think he should be in there.  Oh, and its "better thAn".

^^^^ One thing I have never really got is when to use "then" and "than." Is "then" past tense and "than" present?

He is one of the highest scoring "real" midfielders in the world. Always in the assists, last season played almost every game in our campaign and most of the time the full 90. Provides the creative spark for our team and considering the rest of our players stands above them which is truely extraordinary. Extremely consistant, isn't one of those players like Ronaldo who is missing during big games. Work-rate is huge i.e gets back in defence. Also Lampard said himself that last season was his best season yet in 2005 he came second for Ballon d'Or. You could say the level of football has risen though. Probably some stuff I have missed but you get the picture.

Yet despite all this he rarely is he up for any awards or close to winning any in recent years.

Also El-Kun, Gerrard was injured alot last season.

Nothing to do with tenses, these are just two different words.

'Than' is used in comparative situations - i.e. in your example, Lampard is better than Gerrard.

'Then' is used to indicate a sequence of events when talking about two or more actions in one sentence - i.e. I woke up, had breakfast, and then left the house.

'Than' is a comparison; the tense of it doesn't really matter. Ie "he was better than Gerrard" or "He is better than Gerrard". The tense doesn't matter. 'Then' isn't related to 'than' at all. Well, as far as I understand. Won't pretend to be an Enlgish teacher though!

Yeah, he was injured. And has been injured (and sh*t!) this season too. As I said, don't really think he deserves to be there. But oh well. It is for the calendar year, not the season.

It's just practice WPF.

Paston is better than Moss.

When Paston recovers from his injury, he'll then show he's the best keeper in the league.

Thanks for the real-life examples EG, I wouldn't want poor English to let me down as I spread my message. Better to be safe than sorry.

No Jimmy Bullard?!  He's easily the best footballer in the EPL, which must put him in contention.

He's just been injured, mate. Gerrard can get away with that kind of thing- but Bullard can't. Besides, La Liga is where its at these days!

He's the funniest footballer in the EPL, not the best. Do you have trouble distinguishing the two?
