Wth? Spain have ben average at best, yet they are 3 nominees. To top it off Messi gets a vote? Messi's done about as much as Ronaldo, run with the ball every now and then.

Schweinsteiger. He prob wont win thought cos Germany didnt make the final. I'd say the winner will be someone from the winning team

yep, i reckon,

unless is a truly crap final BS will miss out and whoever of those 3SP + 2D does best for the winning side will get the award
from what I've seen I'd go a 2 way split between BS and Schneider

edit = add - If Robben takes Spain apart like he did Brazil he might edge ittigers2010-07-10 20:36:02

It's decided before the final tigers. If it was decided after the final i would say out of Xavi, Villa, Iniesta and Sneijder whoever has the greatest influence. As it is i think it will be between Villa and Sneijder, both have been stand outs for their teams.

Oh, and Spain average, don't make me laugh

Three for me, and two for them.

then for me it's between Schwienstieger or Sniejder

(partly because I'm biased against favouring strikers with such awards)

looking at some stats it prob won't be Schwienstieger - as the only non-finalist to win the golden ball was Schillachi in 1990

(apart from Mr Poshspice)

Messi had a pretty good WC, did everything but score and was good in all the Argy games except Germany. Did a f**k load more than Ronaldo, at least. Wasn't outstanding, but far better than Ronaldo.

And please don't get me started on your stupid Spain comment.

+1

Spain are in the final. Yeah they haven't scored as many goals but thats not how they play. They dominate possession and dominate each game. Villa who's job is to score has scored 5!! BS had no answer against Xavi or Ineista, so it's of the latter two for me. You're giving Ronaldo too much credit by comparing him to Messi. Watch the replay of their pool games. Messi set up all three of Higuain's goals and it was only superb keeping which kept him from scoring himself against Nigeria.

Great decision, Forlan was fantastic, and made the biggest difference for his team.

Agreed.

Liking the Soccernet XI as well, glad to see I wasn't the only one that thought Salcido was superb.

I'm actually slightly surprised they picked him! Wasn't sure they would, cos he doesn't have the star power compared to others. But defo player of the tournament. So proud!! Atleti player wins that, and Spain win the tournament!!
