Not sure if 100% true, just what i heard

That might be it, Netherlands have dark shorts no matter what, same with Spain's home kit. Think that's also why Aussie wore yellow shorts instead of green, and stayed away from blue altogether

Just on that note, you can get replica Australia kits like the ones they wore this morning for a decent price here

Great games today. Unbelievable result for the Dutch and really enjoyable to see Spain get battered. Just a shame it had to be Robben and Van Persie doing it. Pity they couldn't have both lost 5-1. Puts Spain in real trouble now as they'll have to win both the next 2 and will still probably end up against Brazil in the 2nd round.

Chile-Australia was a really good game too, possibly the best of the tournament so far. I had put $1 on Chile to win 5-0 @ 50.00 and thought it was going to be more than that when they were 2-0 up so early but great credit to Australia. Came back really well and could have snatched a point. Really good from Cahill up top, think he went to MLS way too early. Could still be doing a good job for Everton. Bet Australia wouldn't have thought they would be ahead of Spain in the group after the first game!

What a start to this tournament!

Thank #%$^ for that.  But kind of disappointed that Chile didn't  go in for the kill and give the 'Soccerhomos' a right humping.  One can only imagine how that Foz/flog on SBS is going on about how "Australia has matured as a football nation" etc and that other complete flog Dingo's Son (or whatever multi he's using these days) and his forum ambushing.  Gezz, what a munter he was during 2009-10.  Here's hoping the Dutchies do the world a favour in the next game and gives OZ a right pasting.  Coz I'm still proud that NZ has Australasia's best world cup performance (2010)...

As for "Kiwi" Yossarian 71...you're a flog too.

The last World Cup I watched in English (France 1998) the commentators/pundits mentioned that light/dark thing was for folks watching on black & white tellies.

When I saw both teams in alternate kits, my first thought was "16 years later, surely this doesn't still apply?"

Na but a lot of the kits are designed in a certain way to make them look good in HD. Not sure if that had anything to do with both teams wearing their away kit this morning though.

Exactly what I thought!! The drivel coming out of Foster's mouth would be non-stop. He has to be the biggest tosser associated with Australian football. A total embarassment...

What a day it was for dutch people yesterday. Absolutely incredible game to be at. Diego Costa was getting abused by the crowd for the entire 90 minutes. Lots of booing whenever he got the ball but mostly 'Diego viago' (Diego the gay) was sung by the Brazilians and the dutch fans joined in naturally. Everyone was sure it effected him.

Fuck this stupid game

He said (on the radio last night) he gets booed every away game in La Liga, because of the way he plays not because he's Brazilian born, so he's more than used to it.

Hoping for a Netherlands vs. Argentina World Cup Final won by Holland 3-1 to make up for 1978.

(to avoid heart problems, I can do without the extra-time though)

The Dutch seem to like playing in South America - picking up where they left off in 1978.

A Brazilian friend of mine, Pepe,  told me about 2008 that "Dutch sides are like Brazil" talking in terms of technical proficiency, flare and passion for the game...

Actually, several of the players usually in every Dutch side are close to being of Brazilian ancestry, being of Surinamese ancestry - either born or growing up in Suriname, the former Dutch colony on Brazil's northern border.

In the current squad, Nigel de Jong, Michel Vorm, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jeremain Lens are of Surinamese descent.

Five others are of Caribbean or African descent.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It was great to see a fit looking Robben and van Persie running riot - both players with a long history of injuries...

A lot of Holland's chances of success depend on players like Robben, van Persie and Sneijder staying fit...

Brilliant header by van Persie - fitting for a guy whose parents are both professional artists (father a sculptor, mother a painter)

A lot of artistry from Robben and Sneijder as well....

Van Persie's parents are Dutch artists:

Van Persie On Art and Football (interviewed February 2009):

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-...

"While he did not inherit the passion for art that is shared by his parents - his father is a sculptor, his mother a painter - he sees beauty in a perfect pass and what he calls 'solutions and possibilities' on a football pitch.

'I don't see things the way my parents do,' he says. 'They can look at a tree and see something amazing, whereas I just see a tree. That's not to say I don't appreciate its beauty. When I watch the sea in somewhere like Sardinia, I see the beauty in that.

'But I think there is a creative connection with my parents. It's hard to explain in words, hard to put my finger on it. But I think football is where my creativity comes out.

'Like them, I think I see things other people, and other players, don't when it comes to certain situations. When I look at a football pitch I suppose, yes, I see it as my canvas. I see solutions, possibilities, the space to express myself. I am always looking for ways to be creative, to gain an edge .

'I wasn't artistic in drawing or painting but I think I am artistic in sport. I think I'm always looking for the ultimate, the maximum. It's a challenge that excites me.'

RVP's dad Bob is an established artist in the Netherlands:

Of course not willing to put money on that :P

I bet you wish you had put a lazy $20 on that now

I have money on each Chile & Netherlands to progress, but I couldn't bring myself to chase the big money of Spain missing out.

A good game to watch and neither side deserved to lose. If the Dutch continue to play so poorly as they did in both their games then I doubt they will go beyond the 16. The one player that did look good for Holland was Depay.

I actually should have said in the first half of both games. However, Spain were shocking in the second half. Still fancy them to go through.

Yeah they have been poor starters to games. They look like they have the fitness to keep going through the full 90 though, could be a factor.

Spain start this game like they finished the last one.Awful. Chile seem to want it a lot more and are a lot sharper. 1.0 to them and it looks like Spain will be out.

If this stays like this it's ruined my multibet but I'm still happy to see Chile winning. They've looked a lot better in this than they did in the Aussie game. Thinking that Chile vs Netherlands should be a cracker, neither team will want to come 2nd and face Brazil in the next round (assuming Brazil top their group).

Brilliant to see Spain go out. Third World Cup in the last four the defending champions have been knocked out in the first round. Chile look good and they could go far. Shame for Cazorla though, he made a difference and looked their best player when he came on. With Xavi dropped, even at 2-0 down Fabregas couldn't get on.

In the sweepstake I organised at work I made a third prize for the team with the worst goal difference in the group stage, expecting it to give those who got the teams like Iran or Algeria a chance. Looking like it will be the person who got Spain!

Netherlands-Australia was a great game too. Shame for Australia, they could have got at least a point from both their games so far. Really fancied them to do the incredible when they took the lead, and with a better option from Oar when he fired at Leckie's chest, they might have done. That should have 3-2, instead it was 2-3 immediately. They have been impressive though. When the draw was made everyone expected some big thrashings so they have made a really good account of themselves. Cahill now has more World Cup goals than Messi, Ronaldo and Rooney combined.
