be a squad player or reserve in a higher grade of football, or a first team member in a slightly lower grade?

I guess some factors might be:
Money - probably higher in the higher division?
First team football - more likely in the lower division team

Are there any notable examples of either case?

Depends heavily on age i think. If player is still developing they need regular first team football at highest level possible

Allegedly

Pim Verbeek said it was better to be training at a club in a top European league than playing in the A-league

Carlo Cudicini has rotted away in Chelsea's reserves for the last few years when he could have been a 1st team regular virtually anywhere.

I train with the mens team but play under 17s. Have played for mens 4 times though. Personally I think training with the mens is great as it is improving fitness, pace of the game etc etc. Also makes me stand out a fair bit on a Saturday morning!

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

Defenitely squad player which means you are playing with people better than you which brings you up and improves you to their level of operating in confined spaces.

Oh Wellington is wonderful. We got the wind, the rain and the phoenix. Oh Wellington is wonderful.
