2-0 win over Jets 5-Nov-16 (20th goal for Nix)

3-1 win over Sydney 8-Dec-18

3-2 win over WSW 8-Jan-18 (40th goal for Nix)

Curious as to where people place Roy in terms of the greatest Nix players of all time. Top 3 for me with Ifill and Dura. 41 goals and 23 assists in 108 games is superb (pretty sure he is our all time assist leader as well as scoring now too).

In terms of stats, he's right up there with the best; 9th in appearances, 9th in starts, 9th in minutes played, 1st in goals scored, 2nd= in assists, 1st in goals+assists, and 6th in goals per match (behind Dadi (10 matches), Smeltz (51), Vidosic (10), Brockie (58), and Kaluderovic (23)).

He's the top scorer for the Phoenix against Brisbane and Perth, equal top scorer against Newcastle, and after the last two games, became equal top scorer against Wanderers and Central Coast.

He's one of only three Phoenix players to have scored against all current opposition (others are Brockie and Huysegems) and one of 5 to have scored against 9 or more (Ifill and Brown scored against 10 clubs)

He's also one penalty away from becoming joint top penalty scorer with Ifill, and two away from equalling most penalties in a season.

Krishna recently equalled Ifill's appearances so here's a side by side comparison (the game against the Mariners is not included in the table):

I would not begrudge Krishna if he wanted to move; probably the last chance he would have to do so. He's given a lot of good years to poor Nix teams. (though, on the flip side, we did give him his 'break'- if not about 5 years too late)

I reckon he's got another couple of years left then like Rooney, Ibra and other peers with his class he could shuffle over to the MLS for retirement. They'll love him over there even though he'd be closer to 40!

Some of those teams are quite poor (Hudson's Colorado), so I'm sure if he picked the right team, he'd do fine for a season or two. Plus their second tier/feeder clubs aren't bad for an 'aging' player either.

Krishna best season for Phoenix was 12 goals in 2016/17. He is now on 11 this season! He has now score a brace six times with four of them coming this season, first A-League player to score a brace in three games in a row.

Hope you're all as excited about Roy's stellar season as I am.

Got to thinking - what are the best ever individual seasons in the Phoenix's history? Nathan Burns in the 2014/15 season and Ifill in 2009/10 immediately jump out at me, but what would it take this year for Krishna to be in the conversation? I for sure think he's on the path to achieving this

Absolutely agree. If he can win the golden boot, that's good enough for me. If he does that, the rest will take care of itself.

Really hoping Roy gets a hattrick with us at some point. I know it doesn't really hold much importance as an individual accolade in the scheme of things, but he's been so close 3 games in a row. I'd also like to see him get the record for the most goals in a season with the nix (is it brockie or smeltz that has that record)

Edit: Brockie with 16. Surely Roy can break that

Contract situation

Off-the-field, there has been a good amount of chatter regarding Krishna’s contract with the Phoenix, which expires at the end of the season.

But Krishna, 31, says he is not thinking about contracts at all, and will decide at the end of the season whether to move on or stay.

“I’m only focusing on doing well this season,” he said.

“I’m not exploring contracts right now but when the time comes my manager will discuss the best opportunities for me.”

From NZ Herald on Krishna:

"Dawkins says: "At one point, the coach [Kalezic] came in with a Fiji rugby jersey, threw it at Roy and said 'you might as well go and play rugby'. Roy was really upset with that."

What an arsehole.  No wonder Roy (and many others) wanted to leave if that's the way he treats people.

That story really does not ring true to me. Suspect there's been a bit of gst added there

I had a similar thought, but other than the byline (Rattue) I had no real reason to disbelieve it - other than the effort it would take to dig up a Fiji shirt for the stunt.

So Krishna has resigned from pens now, wonder who it will be

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/a-league/11...

My guess is Sheridan if he's on the pitch, Williams if not.

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cillian-sheridan/e...

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-williams/elf...

Rufer has scored a couple for the WeeNix, and Fenton has scored four for the NZ U-20s.  Neither of them have any unsuccessful pens.

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-rufer/elfmete...

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/louis-fenton/elfme...

As far as I can tell, Burns is the only other one of the squad with a penalty record on Transfermarkt.  Scored 1, missed 2.

Meanwhile, Rudan said Krishna has relinquished his role as the Phoenix's designated penalty-taker after he failed to convert for the second consecutive time in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle Jets on Thursday.

Krishna has converted just seven of his 14 penalty attempts during his A-League career and the late miss against the Jets appears to be the final straw.

"I went straight up to Roy afterwards, after all the players went up to our fantastic travelling fans, and I put my arm around him and said 'this is a good test of character for you now. It's happened once, it's happened twice but we'll keep moving forward, you've been great for us and don't be down about it, we'll keep working, keep fighting and make sure you get into those good goal-scoring positions.'

"But he said 'no boss, I'm passing the responsibility on to someone else now'. Those were his words.

"I don't decide on penalty-takers. It really is a confidence thing and for me it's about who is willing to pick up the ball and who is confident in striking it and hitting the back of the net, that's all. We don't practice penalties, it's not a part of the game I work on, but when the players have extras they decide to do it, like Roy.

"But that's the situation right now and I dare say you will see a new penalty-taker, whoever that may be.

The fact they don't practice penalties probably explains a bit.  I know you can never recreate the high pressure situation and it probably doesn't make it a thing but I'd still have them practice it.  Good on Roy though.  At least he's recognised his short comings in this department.

It's absolutely flabbergasting that they don't. Developing the muscle memory and ability to hit, say, two different spots 10/10 times makes a huge difference in a game situation.

Also always a good idea to have more than one player practice them, you can never rely on the one designated player always being on the pitch when you get awarded a penalty.

"they don't" doesn't mean that none of the players do. I'm sure many of them do, as you say, to develop that muscle memory if nothing else.

Saw Adam Lefondre at the zoo today. Got the urge to kick his ankles to give Roy a chance at getting golden boot. Wouldn't want to ruin his day though, he was really liking the turtle exhibit. In all seriousness though I really hope Roy gets top goal scorer, would show how far he's come and could make him want to stay

There is some uncertainty about it, haven't seen it confirmed yet if he does or not.

The wording says "suspended as a result of a determination of a body under the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations" or a direct red card, so reading that it appears that a two yellows dismissal is fine as long as the league Match Review Panel doesn't give him a extra ban on top (Which is very unlikely).

Cool, he is just one point behind in the Alex Tobin points - no points even though goal and assist last game, possibly send off (even though after 90min) influenced votes.

Yeah I see one of the people that gives votes say he got no points for that game because of the red. So if he isn't banned, he is still in the hunt
