The most inept Brazilian defensive performance in WC history. Without Motta they're the emperor without clothes.

could be, but putting 7 past Brazil on thier soil in a WC Semi-Final = best ever.

Agreed, but I still think if Silva was there the margin would have only been 2 or 3. Dante looked lost and David Luiz's complete inability to stay in position was finally shown up when there wasn't someone to bail him out.

David Luiz looked completely out of it for much of the game, but most disappointing was his lack of leadership as captain when his team needed some on-field direction and encouragement. When the shit started hitting the fan, he just wasn't up to it.

Well done to the Mannschaft, (hehe),of the German team.

Don't understand all the hate directed at Brazil, you think they'd been the only cynical team/players out there the way people are going on.

I don't think people hate Brazil, I think that people are over being fed the trot that they are a good team and its finally been shown in a rather grand manner how poor they were. From the opening game, it was very apparent that they would struggle this tournament but its like more than a few people chose to ignore that, and other performances.

I don't see all the love for Argentina cause they have not impressed me this tournament and while I admit I was like 'holy cow' after Holland dicked Spain, they have not exactly been flash either. I just don't see it nor do I see any team other than Germany winning this because the Germans have been that good.

I don't think Germany have been that good all tournament (certainly good the last couple of games). They struggled against athletic teams like Ghana, USA and Algeria. I felt Lahm was getting too high against Ghana and Algeria and Mustafi's injury and dropping Mertesacker has worked in their favour. Boateng and Hummels are a bit more mobile and defending a little deeper and since they have been paired together the threat from balls over the top has not been that great - this morning Mertesacker comes on and (with immobile Fred off the pitch) Brazil were able to get into attacking positions with balls behind Germany's defence. Germany's movement is great though, once they had the lead and Brazil were chasing the game they were able to exploit space so well. The Brazilian back 6 were very disjointed and the pressing on the Germans playing out from defence again was disjointed - too many easy balls from defence to midfield with a half hearted press and then freeing up space in midfield.

Regarding Lahm, they've looked a lot better when they've played him at fullback. Who knew that playing the world's best fullback at fullback would work so well? Especially now that Khedira-Schweinsteiger combo can click in the middle of the park too. Was never a fan of the Lahm at DM plan. Typical Guardiola overcomplicating things... And Jogi just followed him.

Loew did have justification for playing Lahm at DM, the 7 goals conceded against Sweden in qualifying and the 3-3 against Paraguay - he wanted some more protection in midfield. The numerous injuries to other players (including Khedira and Schweinsteiger) I think cemented his thinking. Though, happy that Lahm is at FB - better balance to the team.

Turn it off. Robben dived a few times. Thats a far stretch from what Brazil, Spain and the like get up to.

Thankfully today the ref wasn't having a bar of it which allowed football to be played, and to be played brilliantly.

The thing I don't get with the Neymar love is he isn't actually that great a player and is far from proven at any level, other than in Brazilian league where defence doesn't exist.

I agree with that. Give me Kaka any time over Neymar.

(and the first person who says that Brazil served up just that on the field this morning will be told to stand in the naughty corner)

I would agree with most of that but especially with the fact that Germans struggled against athletic teams. If the Dutch get to the final then I expect them to give the Germans run for their money, as they are an overly physical team (WC 2010 final, anyone?) but also know how to play. The older players like Klose, Schweinsteiger, Khedira or Podolski may find it hard to keep up.

On the other hand, if Argentina prevails tomorrow, that would make for a wonderful game based on passing.

You may disagree with me but I think it is Argentina that plays more like the Germans. Uruguay tried (and failed) to play like the Dutch.

Khedira might be coming off an injury but he's only 27, and Podolski's 29. Hardly old...

But yeah, agree with the general point. Although Germany will probably be a lot more well-rested than whoever they play, which should help them

Personally I hope it's not Argentina in the final. Apart from flashes of match winning brilliance from Messi their football has been dreary, their team spirit questionable, and there's been little sign of any actual improvement (this could change against the Dutch but I doubt it).

I think the Germans' efforts against some of the so-called athletic teams have been underrated. It was evident even from the group stage that this side has a massive determination to succeed, and increasingly as everything has started to fall into place, the quality and ability to go all the way. If I'm honest I'm a bit prejudiced against Germany winning World Cups but I do always like to see the best team prevail at the end. The Dutch may still pull out a couple of big performances to change my mind but at this stage the Germans are for me definitely the best team there.

Any result out of the ordinary now = Match fixing allegations.

Pretty sad that. Everything went right for Germany, everything went wrong for Brazil. Plus Germany are much better. That's sport.

Purely unfounded any probably inaccurate speculation. Cant hide from the fact that it was my very first thought after seeing final score.

Fair play to Germany though. I must say

Reminiscent of Argentina 6 Peru 0 in 1978.

At first I thought it was a fixed match, but maybe Brazil are just plain useless and the Germans a bit lucky to play such a god-damn awful shambles of what used to be a great Football nation.  When they play Argentina/Messi in the Final it will be a much harder game for sure!!

I can imagine teams which have no realistic chance of winning the World Cup throwing group games, but not a team throwing a semifinal. Winning the WC is worth more, both in monetary and abstract terms, than any bookie could offer I reckon. That wasn't a fixed game, that was a weak team who were under too much pressure to handle, crumbling to pieces the moment the opposition started to get away from them. And then it just blew out.
