Serie A 2015/16

I wouldn't be too concerned about Inter. Only 3 teams have scored less goals than us this season. We've got the best defensive record in the league but we just can't break teams down. As I said a few posts above, we lack creativity in the midfield and shouldn't have sold Kovacic .

I had optimism earlier in the season that we could be title challengers but at this stage I think the best we can hope for is to sneak into the Champions League. There's a rumour that Mourinho might be coming back but tbh I wouldn't want that. Yeah he won us the treble but I'd rather see us hire an attacking coach who trusts youth if we were going to get rid of Mancini.

What do I know... Looks like you were right to be worried about playing us. Bit of a smash and grab from Inter but they all count!

Inter win but still  looking for goals

Expect Obafemi Martins  return rumours to kick off

Great game for a neutral!!! Pity I'm not neutral and pity Dzeko couldn't hit the side of a barn and Gervinho had one of his frustrating days. Still, I thought we played well and deserved at least a point. When you lose like that it's frustrating but at least you know that if we keep playing like that we'll win plenty of games. Roll on Bayer Leverkusen!

Another 1-0 win for Inter (I think our 7th) and we pop above Fio at the top of the table for the time being

So Inter top at Christmas. Can't see us staying there unfortunately. Juve are looking like they have re-found their mojo, and Napoli look decent. I'd be happy with 3rd though and the Champions League spot.

I also saw there's a rumour that Roma might be interested in Mourinho. I personally think that could be a good move for both parties, but I'd be interested to know what you Roma fans think of it?

I wouldn't necessarily be against it (Mourinho coming to Roma) but I think it's incredibly highly unlikely. The alternative to sticking with Garcia seems to be bringing back Luciano Spalletti. I'd be happy with that. Sticking point seems to be that our president only wants to give him a six month contract then try to get Conte after the Euros - good luck with that - and our sporting director seems to want to stick with Rudi.

Personally i'd like to bring Spalletti in, give him 18 months and be done with it.

And that's exactly what we've done! It's no silver bullet but I am very happy indeed. Garcia had to go. And I seriously love this man...

How's the Spalletti love going now? Supposedly a rift between him and Totti.

Permalink Permalink

I'm not too bothered about the purported rift. I think it's sad that Totti is coming to the end of his career and is clearly struggling with that reality - totally understandable - but once he went to the press to complain Spalletti had no choice but to drop him. Hopefully they can sort it out and get on with things. The 5-0 win should help with that. Spalletti's return has been a breath of fresh air and surely nobody can now suggest that Garcia's sacking wasn't the right thing to do.

Daje Roma!

I had crawled away from this thread since Inter started sliding down the table....

Now I just really hope that Napoli win it because I don't want Juve to!

Not necessarily Serie A related but who do people think will take over the Italy job after the Euros? Allegri? Sarri?

Sarri's comments to Mancini might hurt his chances. He's got previous as well.

Then again, Italian football...

Permalink Permalink

Yeah... if it's up to that great bastion of social progress, Carlo Tavecchio, then Sarri's comments might have helped his case...

Donadoni has really grown as a coach in the last few years. Would be interesting to see him given another shot. Ranieri wouldn't be a bad option either!

I can't see Ranieri leaving Leicester! Plus I think he is more of a club coach than an international one. Pellegrini would be interesting if Italy could stomach having a foreign coach

only saw the highlights of the game but I was really rooting for Roma today- even as a Milan fan. I'm not much of a Madridista.

Dzeko and Salah really muffed some reasonable chances. Man! Could have been a different game if they'd got their early strikes on target. Sir Chez wasn't too bad in Roma goal for 60 minutes.

Ronaldo is a goal machine though.

What a missed opportunity. Still, I continue to fall in love with Spalletti all over again with every game. Just read his post-match comments...

And compare them to a typical Garcia reaction to a disappointing result...

It's like night and day. I feel really good about the future now and I'd rather feel like this after a loss than how I did under Garcia even after a win...

Big game tomorrow morning - Roma hosting Inter. Could make a massive difference to the race for the CL spot. I hope Icardi is fit after he came off early against Bologna.

Should be an open game - both teams have been in good goalscoring form. I predict a 2-2 draw

Nice assist from Dzeko ;-)

Hopefully that means Inter has blown their wad for 3rd place.

Well, I predicted the result, just got the score a little wrong. Haven't seen the game yet but sounds  like we were lucky to take a point.

Well, that's probably no UCL for us next year. The club has said they needed the money from that or else they are gonna sell some of our better players :(

I think Icardi and Handanovic will be gone for a start

I'm not fully up with the rumours... Is Icardi still going to go to ManU or Arsenal? Or is it some other destination (like back to Spain)?

Permalink Permalink

I thought the draw was probably a fair result! Roma did most of the attacking but Inter knew we would play a false nine and had the tactics to nullify it. When chances came we scuffed ours. Inter targeted an out of position Florenzi at right back and it paid off in the form of a goal. Then Inter did what Inter do in my experience when they get a lead - turn nasty... We were lucky to get our equaliser. Dzeko..... Surely he's out of chances...

Changes every week. Arsenal seems likely to me, but I think he could be the exact type of player they need, which of course means Wenger won't sign him.

Yeah, our left side is pretty strong on attack, not so much on defence sometimes. Nagatomo loves to get forward but isn't always so keen on tracking back. As for turning nasty, I don't know what you are talking about :P

What a weekend... Napoli choke, Roma smash Lazio, Fiorentina stumble, the Milan teams both have shockers.

Looks like the top 3 have settled into there place.

I was hoping that Napoli could have pushed Juve a little harder.

Have to say that it's been an excellent turn around to Juve's season given there poor start.

I still think Roma will overhaul Napoli and finish second.... But I would say that I guess.... It was a funny old derby with no curve on either side.

It's been a long fall from grace for that once great club... But I guess what do you expect when you're owned by Silvio Berlusconi.

They are such a machine when they get going. Even though they still get a LOT of help from match officials... you do have to admire it. Hopefully they can perform a bit better in the UCL next season because whoever it is, I do like to see Italian teams doing well in Europe and we can still get that fourth Champions League place back...
