Not with any particular moment in mind, I was thinking today about what value video refs would have to football. In my eyes I think it would be great, what do you think?
Did anyone touch Ronaldo? Did Adebayor punch the ball into the goal? Everyone has their own opinion of what happened, but is it fair on the ref to make that call with out super slow motion replays, 5 different angles etc etc? I don't think so. I think it is the right direction in professionalism in a sporting code. We all know how it works, and it has helped alot in many other sports.
I dont want the ref stopping the game every tackle to check it out, but when something massive happens in the game (take the Carrick handball this weekend for instance) I believe the option to get another opinion is invaluable, and can help the game become just that bit more perfect :)
What ya reckon?

Nope. Keep our sport clean of rubbish like that thank you very much.
Three for me, and two for them.

But why? Rubbish? To me rubbish would be losing a game based on an incorrect descision. Many rugby fans didn't like the sound of it, neither did all the tennis fans but now it has become an accepted and sometimes integral part of a game..

Football isn't like other sports.

Oh, I didn't think about that. You win!

it won't work in football because there are no clear times to stop the game and check. i.e for the carrick handball you would have to wait until the ball goes out of play next time. and that could take a while. In league it is much easier since you can stop a game and restart it at every play the ball.

FIFA are trialling Goal Area assistant referees - I'd rather see the outcome of that before looking at video replays

i have mixed feelings about this one. sure id love for there to be access to replays for things like penalty appeals. but it would have to be at the refs discretion and only in a few situations otherwise football would end up like rugby and league where we wait for minutes on end for a decision.
personally id rather see a citing commission for simulation. doesnt effect the game and gets rid of the worst part of top level footy. but thats just me

I think rugby and league have both proved that having a video ref does not guarantee getting the right decision.
Leave well alone, I say. What will we have to argue about!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Well said Jag, and you can add the NFL into that equation too.

What does that entail Ginger?
Like some others I do have mixed views about it and how it would work - and thats why I offered not solution myself. Also not sure how it could operate without taking away speed of the play. It would be interesting, if, it could be implemented. Perhaps used more by the FA post match at least. Who knows, I don't!
